Oct 8, 2020Darkestville Castle’s campaign takes only a few hours to finish, but it’s worth experiencing for the laughs. The Flash-esque animation actually looks wonderful in motion, and the characters sport unique styles that inject personality into the campaign. Sure, it might be a pain to try and use that cursor, but the writing is delightful enough to make it worth the headache. For those wanting to learn a little about how things might look from a villain’s perspective, Darkestville Castle might be just the thing.

Aug 24, 2020Although it wears its inspirations on its sleeve, you needn’t have knowledge of point-and-click adventure classics to enjoy Darkestville Castle. The jokes are fine, the characters are fun, and the puzzles are comfortably illogical. Enjoy your visit.

Aug 19, 2020Darkestville Castle may not bring a groundbreaking change to the point and click adventure genre but that doesn't mean this game is not a little gem, with both light-hearted humour and a somber environment that will remind players of landmark animated movies. With its surprisingly captivating plot, rapport with the characters and marvelous art style, Darkestville Castle is an easy work to recommend to any fans of point and click adventures.

Aug 14, 2020If you’re a fan of classic ‘point-and-click’ adventure games like Monkey Island, or even if you have fond memories of those classic Humongous Entertainment titles such as Pajama Sam or Freddie Fish, then Darkestville Castle is worth checking out. Despite the obvious budgetary limitations of the project and associated issues, Darkestville Castle is a delightful point-and-click adventure game that revels in its nostalgic influences without shamelessly reproducing them. It’s also a fun, compelling adventure in its own right and well worth your time.
-
Aug 12, 2020Darkestville Caste is a valiant attempt at creating a spiritual successor to one of the most beloved point and click games ever made, and, on some levels, it succeeds.
-
Aug 12, 2020Darkestville Castle feels at home on the Switch, and with a strong narrative and clever puzzles cements itself as a decent point-and-click adventure, despite some niggles.
-
Aug 31, 2020Darkestville Castle is a nostalgic game for sure. But play at your own risk as rose-colored glasses are not included.
-
Aug 31, 2020Darkestville Castle is a standard point and click adventure that genre fans who are thirsty for more may enjoy but it's nothing special.
-
Aug 31, 2020If you’re after a point and click adventure game that harkens back to another era of gaming, Darkestville Castle isn’t bad. There is definitely the feel of older adventure games, fans of the Monkey Island series, in particular, will find plenty of nostalgia here. While it does take you back to some of those 90s games, too often it feels like it could’ve left some of it behind.
-
Aug 12, 2020Darkestville Castle isn't reinventing the point-and-click adventure game by any stretch, but it manages to stick to the strengths of the genre and inject it with a hefty dose of humor. Cid's comments throughout the game will have players rolling with laughter, even if some of the puzzles can be frustrating in their randomness. Those who are fans of point-and-click games should pick up Darkestville Castle whenever they get a chance, as long as they can ignore some of the puzzles that lack a bit of logic.
-
Aug 26, 2020Darkestville Castle is imaginative and well-written, but the obscurity of the puzzle solutions, unfriendly design choices, and presence of a potentially game breaking bug make it difficult to recommend. If you love retro adventure games and have a high tolerance for difficult puzzles, you might want to check it out. Just back up your save as you go.
