The game indeed came out with some lack, for me the worst thing was the loading times between screens, it was very frequent and they broke the rhythm of the game. I have played it again recently and I have seen that they have fixed it.
The game is very enjoyable, it has wonderful art, music that I love, and a variety of scenarios, all of which are very beautiful. You have 4 characters

The game is very enjoyable, it has wonderful art, music that I love, and a variety of scenarios, all of which are very beautiful. You have 4 characters with their style and their upgrade tree.
But it still has some problems; at the beginning, without upgrades and without potions or healing items you die very quickly, I think they should have adjusted the first fights a bit. A little later in the game, with the number of potions and healing items you can get, without any kind of cooldown, makes the game feel too easy.
It's a good game, with some problems, but enjoyable for anyone who likes indie games and Metroidvania.

There are elements to Curse of the Sea Rats that really shine. It is exciting to progress through the world in Metroidvania-style watching the animations, cooky boss fights, and listening to the music. When it comes to gameplay such as combat and platforming however, the shine wears off. Pervasive loading screens on the Switch, neutered boss fights, and finicky platforming can make it too difficult to enjoy. The world is worthy to be explored, but with better gameplay.

Curse of the Sea Rats is a 2D platformer adventure game in which you fight enemies and upgrade your abilities while searching for the evil pirate witch who turned your party into rats. Exploring new areas and defeating the witch’s crew is fun throughout the course of the game, and is definitely worth a play-through for those patient enough to deal with its difficulty.

Like I said, it’s Curse of the Sea Rats’ atmosphere and art style that really carry it: if you can tolerate some less-than-stellar writing, this game delivers on Redwall-esque “rodent fantasy” adventure with a pirate twist. Underneath that is a metroidvania that hits the right foundation but struggles to stand out, and lets some odd design choices and clunkiness get in the way of the exploration that the whole genre is built around. There’s still fun to be found here, but in such a crowded field full of creative twists on the form, Sea Rats struggles to leave a lasting impression.
