    Honestly, one of the worst games I have played. While it has potential, being a rogue like game. The introduction being okay. The game falls apart, when it gets into the dungeon itself. Everything moving to a beat, while on paper seems fun. In practice, it is awful. The game doesn’t give you opportunities to learn, it doesn’t explain anything last I remember.

    To make things worse, it just punishes for missing a beat. This isn’t a way to make a game, rather, it is one of the worst ways I have experienced. Would have been fine with just the music, and keep it real time, without the whole stupid beat mechanic. Maybe then I would have rated it higher. Though, after hours, I decided to just drop the game.

    Just didn’t do it for me. I found the finding a keeping a rhythm too challenging. I think if I was musically talented this game would probably rock my socks off, but given I struggle with a beat, I didn’t get far. If you struggle to hold a beat, I wouldn’t bother.

    It's a great perfectly solvable, low rng, rogue-like, that challenges you by only letting you move on the beat, and make quick decisions to the tempo of sweet crunchy tunes.

    One of the best game ever made. Switch version is better than others (maybe PS Vita version is better, or rather PS Vita d-pad work much better with this game).

    I think it's a really original idea of a game. It is really challenging and sometime unfair (but not too often so you don't just ragequit all the time). The learning curve is steep but it's based on this mechanics to make you understand that the game is tough and you'll have to die often to learn. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but you do learn every time you die. It's the kind of gameI think it's a really original idea of a game. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but you do learn every time you die. It's the kind of game you play 30 minutes per day to keep getting better. And the feeling for beating a zone is awesome since you fought so hard to do it.

    The random mechanic makes it really fresh all the time, but sometime too based on luck since you can be really good and still have a huge badluck on a run (like 10 hard monsters in a single room) and you'll just die in less than a second if you are not super fast.

    So be sure to know that you need to love challenge to have fun in this game.

    And the soundtrack.... is pure genius. Danny Baranowski is a really good composer that makes the game much more fun to play. Some details are so worthy (like the shopkeeper singing) and made me really enjoyed the game more.

    There is a lot of replay value until you finish all the zones and the story mode (wish there was some checkpoint in the story mode since it's just the 5 zones back-to-back). There is a lot of content to unlock but it wasn't really for me since I didn't care about having every characters or items in the game.    … Expand

    I love this game. It is challenging but not too challenging. It has lots of different modes. Not to mention items and enemies.this game has good music as well.

    This is a charming game with some of the best music around, but it's very repetitive and can be extremely frustrating. For some people, that's the whole draw of this type of game--it relies on dying, learning, and repeating almost ad infinitum. For me, it's just not my type of game, although I admit I can enjoy playing it in short bursts.     Main reason I'm writing this review is to let you know that the trailer video on this page is actually for Cadence of Hyrule, a game completely different from Crypt of the Necrodancer.
    Really fun game, but I definitely recommend getting it on PC if you can, since the controls work so much better with a keyboard.

    The main feature of this game is your state of mind, after you played it for 1h straight, listening to the rhythm... You may think you were playing it, but for real this game is playing you!

    The tutorial is really bare-bones, just teaching you the absolute necessary basics about movement. Everything else, like what the items do and how to use them, how the enemies move and fight and how to defeat them, what the different objects and characters are for etc etc., in other words, how to actually PLAY the game, you    Cool idea for a game, but the learning curve is WAY too steep.

    The tutorial is really bare-bones, just teaching you the absolute necessary basics about movement. Everything else, like what the items do and how to use them, how the enemies move and fight and how to defeat them, what the different objects and characters are for etc etc., in other words, how to actually PLAY the game, you have to figure out for yourself. Some people may like this kind of „hardcore“ experience, I‘m certainly not one of them.

    I‘m a drummer and I have a very good sense of rhythm, but that won‘t get you far when it comes to enemy attack patterns, especially not when the game puts four different enemy types plus a miniboss in one room in just the second level and practically tells you to „deal with it“.

    It is possible to practice on single enemies OUTSIDE of the actual levels, but to me, that‘s just bad game design. Why not have an actual learning curve for the player where you gradually increase the number of enemies and enemy types and make it clear how they move and attack, so it’s not just guess-work, and have mini-bosses just appear on their own at first, so the learning is part of the game and you don‘t have to take time out from the main game in order to be able to beat it? The way it is now seems idiotic to me.

    I can‘t even practice the mini bosses, because they require diamonds to unlock them in practice mode (really?), but I can‘t get enough diamonds because I keep dying, but I can‘t practice effectively because I don‘t have the diamonds etc.etc.

    I doubt that I‘ll be playing much of this game in the future and I‘m glad that I only spent three bucks on it.    … Expand

    I was suggested this game when I asked for recommendations on the best rhythm games on the switch. This is NOT a rhythm game. It has a very, very small rhythm game element on walking with a beat (a very stoic and boring beat at that) but the rest of the game is a roguelike. That doesn't necessarily mean the game is bad. It has its charming points and kept me entertained for a few hoursI was suggested this game when I asked for recommendations on the best rhythm games on the switch. This is NOT a rhythm game. It has a very, very small rhythm game element on walking with a beat (a very stoic and boring beat at that) but the rest of the game is a roguelike. That doesn't necessarily mean the game is bad. It has its charming points and kept me entertained for a few hours before I got bored and moved back to the real rhythm game Voez. If you were hoping for a rhythm game, you really need to look elsewhere. If you enjoy roguelikes, then this might be exactly what you are looking for.… Expand

    This game is like math. If you’re inherently good at it, you’ll like it, but if you suck at it, you’ll hate it with a passion.

    The game does *nothing* to teach you how to fight the different types of enemies. You have to figure it out on your own. Even if that means constantly dying. In my book, this is a mortal sin for a game. I play games to have a good time but this game feels like    This game is like math.     I tried really hard to like this game as it's incredibly charming and a very cool concept, but ended up finding it clunky, lacking in depth, and worst of all just very repetitive. Maybe if it was considerably cheaper I'd have expected a bit less from the game but definitely a disappointment all-around. Great soundtrack however.

    Crypt of the NecroDancer is one of the greatest indie games of all time, and, albeit rather pricey, holds up incredibly well on Nintendo Switch. The controls are incredibly responsive and it looks just as beautiful as the other versions of the game. The soundtrack is superb as always and is still the best part of the game. The addition of the new character is a rather nice addition too. ICrypt of the NecroDancer is one of the greatest indie games of all time, and, albeit rather pricey, holds up incredibly well on Nintendo Switch. The controls are incredibly responsive and it looks just as beautiful as the other versions of the game. The soundtrack is superb as always and is still the best part of the game. The addition of the new character is a rather nice addition too. I would highly recommend this if you have never played it, because once you have, you'll be humming along to the music for months to come.

    It adds freshness and originality to a classic genre, mixing the best of rhythm and dungeon crawler games. Unfortunately, the overall look is weak, but the story is interesting and there is a variety of characters, together with a great soundtrack and the accessibility of the mechanics make it into an experience that is addictive and endearing that you can't miss.
