I became really invested in the story of Madeline and the other characters in the game, especially since I relate so closely to the struggles of anxiety and depression that is one of the main themes of the game. That sense of anxiety is replicated in some of the tracks in the game, as is the feeling of overcoming that anxiety when Madeline reaches the top of the mountain.

The game is hard, but it feels like it wants you to complete it. Everything is do-able, and I say that with confidence, because I've done everything. There are optional collectables, however, that increase the difficulty exponentially, and in turn they unlock even harder 'B-sides' and then once you beat those you get 'C-sides' and DAMN these things are hard. Not to mention the golden strawberries.

Look, this game is great. Pick it up.

It's easily forgettable but didn't hinder my experience with the game. Even when I thought something was too hard, Celeste just pulled me back in, enticing me to attempt it. The only disappointing thing about this game is it's lack of combat, which I felt would have been an addition that would have improved the experience even more. Still, that doesn't overshadow my 10/10 review, which I feel it easily deserves.

NOTE: This game is not for everyone. I've seen two big complaints about this game: the first being that people don't like the graphics, and the second being that it feels like everything boils down to repeating a screen over and over again until you get lucky. If neither of those sound appealing, don't buy this.

Celeste also has a great soundtrack. it depicts the tone and mood of the situation, without getting repetitive, eg chapter 5's anxiety inducing score. overall, it is a must play, and for the price, you couldn't go wrong

The best platformer out there and one of the best games ever. The fact that it was nominated for GotY Award @ The Game Awards 2018, competing with the likes of God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Assassin's Creed Odyssey and other amazing AAA games, says ti all... But let's break it down.

The controls feel accurate and when you die, you can easily tell why and you'll hardly blame the controls - unless you don't play with the D-Pad, which I highly recommend for this. With each death, comes the understanding of why and an automatic improvement of your skill and little by little, you'll pass amazingly difficult levels without even realizing it.

The music is one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard. Despite being sort of a "pixelated" soundtrack, it's more than enough to a) make you dive deep into the story and b) make you feel a specific emotion the story is trying to pass you. Easily the best surprise in the game. I'd go to work listening to this amazing soundtrack.

The story isn't incredible - but the way it's told, makes it absolutely incredible. The way you slowly realize why the story is happening, who really are those characters and why you're doing what you're doing, is something I'll cherish forever.

Lastly, the level design. Although there are only 3 core mechanics - jump, dash and climb - the way you have to use them and the way you can combine them to clear the levels, is genius. The level design is 100% brilliant and it's the real reason why the game is an actual challenge and why the game doesn't get repetitive. The game can be hard, yes, especially if you're a completionist; but you'll never say "this is impossible". And this is because of the perfect gradual increase of difficulty, aligned with the gradual introduction of different combinations plus the way the game simply tells you to be proud of your death counter, calm down and rise up to the next challenge - try and fail, until you succeed.

Want a casual challenge? Play the normal levels. Want to add an extra something? Catch all the strawberries. Not satisfied? Play the B-Sides too!. Still not enough? Play the C-Sides then! What's that? Still not much of a challenge or still want even more? Have fun trying to get the golden strawberry out of every level! There is SO MUCH to play!

A perfect story, music and challenge. A must play! 10/10

Celeste is the best 2D platformer ever created when you judge it by the game alone. There's a reason this is becoming one of the most speedran games ever. Its movement has an immensely high skill cap. While technically your movement options are limited to climbing, dashing, and jumping, they aren't really. Because using these movement options together leads to so much more. For example, ifCeleste is the best 2D platformer ever created when you judge it by the game alone. There's a reason this is becoming one of the most speedran games ever. Its movement has an immensely high skill cap. While technically your movement options are limited to climbing, dashing, and jumping, they aren't really. Because using these movement options together leads to so much more. For example, if you jump, dash diagonally to the ground at the right time, and then jump again, you do a super jump where you have the speed of a dash but can dash again. And that's only scratching the surface of complex movement techniques.
There is also an amazing story in this game. If someone tells you that it wasn't subtle enough, that's because the subtle parts are so subtle that they couldn't notice them. There are some bits of the theme that are blasted in the player's face, but other bits require deep analysis. Almost every mechanic is symbolic of something.
Then there is the music. It's great. For me, the highlights are chapters 2 and 7, but every piece is amazing. The dynamic soundtrack fits the music to whats happening in the level very well, and it's more than just "when the game gets more fast-paced, speed up the music."
And then there is the pacing. Even the 4 screen long tutorial has thought put into it's pacing. Difficult sections were followed up by easier ones, etc.
But the thing that makes this game so great is how the game manages to put you in Madeline's shoes. You are determined when she's determined, you are worried when she's worried, and you are happy when she's happy. You experience Madeline's emotions in a way that only a video game could do.
While this game might look like some nostalgiac attention grabber with pixel-art graphics. Celeste uses more modern game design than most studios can claim they do. Celeste is without a doubt looking forward for its design.

The best game about climbing a mountain. It's difficult but the messages and gameplay are amazing. I would not recommend this for people who are bad at platformers or don't play them often though. It's awesome. Controls work better with a d-pad, but I beat it with thumbsticks. The movement is 8 directional, so a thumbstick with grooves would also work well.

The difficulty contributes to Celeste's themes of persevering through improvement. The music is a bop and tonally fits each level to help create a sense of atmosphere. Controls are tight and responsive, meaning that deaths are the player's fault, not the game's fault. Although death comes often, a quick reboot feature keeps the player engaged. Upon "finishing" the game, there are plenty of speed running, completionist, and difficulty challenges to keep dedicated players coming back.

Ultimately, some games like The Last of Us Part II try to tell a mature story at the cost of player fun. Despite being an indie title with no such production funds, Celeste manages to tell a mature story while continually being fun. Celeste is a masterpiece. This will be a game remembered for decades to come from its balance of fun and theme.

The entire game is built around just those 3 mechanics. It's easy to learn, but mastering it is one of the most satisfying things I've ever done in a game. The game's difficulty curve is PERFECT.

The game's difficulty curve is PERFECT. After beating the main game, you unlock B-side levels of the main levels, and they are INCREDIBLY hard. I never thought I would be able to beat them, but I got better. And that's what makes Celeste such a fantastic game. It's genuinely great at getting you to overcome obstacles that seem impossible, which fits greatly with the game's themes.

Celeste is about the difficulty of The End is Nigh, but is far less frustrating than that game. I attribute this to the game's music, which is INCREDIBLE. It's funny how much of a difference such a small thing makes. When you keep hearing the same track over and over again, it had better be a good track.

I'd recommend playing with a D-Pad for an ideal experience. The sticks work, but they can be a bit annoying with the 8-way dashing.

For me, CELESTE is one of those games where is emotionally touching, insightful, and sincere when it tells its story of Madeline's journey of her mental health and her self-reflection; and with difficult but fair platforming, creative level design, and gameplay for players in speedrunners alike, it's one of the best 2D Platformers in years; here are some of my gripes about the game even if it's minor such as some inputs with the left analogue stick are off, some of the B-side Chapters are hard for me to beat, and most of all, some of the parts of the game is not cohesive at times leading to some parts of the game feeling like it's a bit off, and the phenomenon is called ludonarrative dissonance like in Chapter 3: Celestial Resort and the only stage does not have this problem is Chapter 9: Farewell (which I didn't reach, for now); It's still a great game in any platform you choose to play.

Celeste is a wonderful game. Gameplay and Visual Section: The gameplay of this game is beautiful, a rather but quite difficult game that will make you have at least more than 500 deaths in your game, but each death helps you learn from your mistakes and always motivates you to move on, Why does it motivate you? I will talk about that later, The technical section has an incredibly wonderful PixelArt that is very detailed for an indie game, The drawings that appear at the end of each stage are very well done, they can easily be used in the background screen, the gameplay is quite fluid and very well optimized it can easily run on any computer every time you die you reappear instantly I thought this point was very well achieved, the technical section is very well done. History: The story of this game is wonderful, The story is about a girl named Madeline, She decides to climb the celestial mountain which gives the game its title, She will find many challenges as she advances towards her goal as well as she will find many allies. I would like to comment more on this section, But I do not want to ruin the experience, I really tell you this story is wonderful I cannot describe it in any other way, As I said in the previous point, Why does it motivate you to keep moving forward in the game? This, Because of the story, In my case every time I lost in the game I wanted to keep moving forward and moving forward to know how this story ended I wanted to know what would happen to Madeline and her goal or the other secondary characters, The story is the reason why it is required to advance in the game being too difficult. Soundtrack: I never usually talk about this in my reviews, But when it comes to a game like celestial it has to be talked about, The soundtrack is one of the best soundtracks of all video games, A music so perfectly achieved with the game's scenarios, A very music relaxing, suspensive, challenging, motivational etc. Music is one of the best things about this game. Final conclusion: Celeste is a wonderful game with an excellent story as well as its soundtrack and playability, a game that because of its low price offers you more than what you paid for, It is an incredible game, nothing to say, highly recommended.

The platforming is the best and most smooth I've played in any game ever. The main story is very heartwarming and made me cry by the ending credits. Each level is unique in every way from visuals, game play changes, narrative, and music. Speaking of music, nearly every song in Celeste is great to listen to. The only negative thing I can think about the game is that the grind to 100% the game is crushingly difficult and only meant for the best of the best, which heavily contradicts the story's message. I'd rate Celeste a 9.5 out of 10 if meta critic allowed me to but I'll put a 10 in its place due to this game being the first game of an indie studio. Expand

The game handles well, if a bit difficult to get use to. The game took me about 30 hours to beat chapters 1-8, and i have still not completed farewell or the b or c sides. The game looks amazing for what it needs. A more detailed game would just look ugly, and a less detailed game would look unfinished. In conclusion, my 17 pounds were well spent, as i got an amazing game with a good yet not distracting story, a massive amount of gameplay, and a soundtrack to kill for. 10 out of 10, amazing game, new personal favourite.

The game strikes a perfect balance between accessibility and depth, ensuring that players of all skill levels can enjoy the smooth and responsive gameplay.

The mechanics in Celeste are brilliantly crafted, offering a wide range of abilities and challenges that keep players engaged throughout their journey. The core mechanic of the game revolves around Madeline's ability to perform a mid-air dash, which adds an extra layer of complexity and creativity to the platforming sequences. The game introduces new mechanics gradually, allowing players to master each one before moving on to the next. The mechanics in Celeste are not just gimmicks; they are cleverly integrated into the level design, creating a cohesive and immersive gameplay experience.

One of Celeste's standout features is its challenging difficulty that manages to be both tough and rewarding. The game presents players with increasingly complex platforming sections that require precise timing and quick thinking. While the difficulty can be daunting, Celeste adopts a fair and forgiving approach. The game encourages experimentation and learning from mistakes, providing frequent checkpoints and quick respawns. Celeste's difficulty is finely tuned to strike the perfect balance between frustration and triumph, creating a deeply satisfying and gratifying gameplay experience.

I love platformers - I think they're the most perfect expression of twitch gaming there is, and my favourite game growing up was Super Mario World on my old SNES. I was blown away by the creativity of the Mario Galaxy games. But 3D platformers have not been hitting the high points recently, not since the demise of the Wii and Nintendo's decision to turn away from the Galaxy games. Lately,I love platformers - I think they're the most perfect expression of twitch gaming there is, and my favourite game growing up was Super Mario World on my old SNES. I was blown away by the creativity of the Mario Galaxy games. But 3D platformers have not been hitting the high points recently, not since the demise of the Wii and Nintendo's decision to turn away from the Galaxy games. Lately, the best platformers have all been 2D examples, and, to pick one in particular, Super Meat Boy instantly barged its way into my top 10 Greatest Games OAT list.
I'm a huge fan of the genre, and my Switch has been pretty much unplayed since I set the disappointing Mario Odyssey aside - then along came Celeste with its outrageous metascore...what else could I do? I downloaded it immediately and I've been playing nothing else since. It really is as good as everyone's saying, and when a new franchise appears, from a dev who's not world-famous either, and immediately gets a metascore like this, you can be sure there's something there to get excited about.

I'll get my complaints out of the way first, because they're pretty minimal:

    1. The controls on Switch are not well-suited to split-second 2D platforming. It's just not practically possible to use an analogue stick to play something that demands such precision - it's far too insensitive - and the only other option you have is the Switch's 'd-pad'. The problem is that it's not really a d-pad; rather it's a four-button configuration that stands in for a d-pad, and this means your fingers often slip into the gap at the centre. This isn't a constant issue, but it happens enough for it to mess up some crucial moments in the game, which, like I say, requires absolutely perfect precision. The second problem with the controls, more minor perhaps, is that when you're playing on the big screen and the left and right joy-cons are detached, the left joy-con is simply too small for your hand to fit comfortably around it, and as a result you get the dreaded hand-cramp/-claw-cramp.

    2. The narrative is...well-meaning. It has occasional moments of Lynchian intrigue - birds appearing at particular moments throughout - and there are half-hearted attempts to imbue the whole climb itself with an air of metaphysical mystery, as though it might be some kind of dreamlike confabulation brought about by stress. But these elements don't join up well, and the writing ranges from mildly interesting, mildly amusing, to painfully worthy, anaemic stuff that feels like it was cribbed from a self-help book. There are lines about 'believing in yourself' and 'trusting in who you are', and subjects like anxiety attacks and lack of confidence and self-worth are dealt with clumsily. Some people have credited it simply for talking about these issues in the first place, but that's not really enough I don't think. This is a work of art, not a speech by a motivational speaker or a pamphlet on coping with depression, and as a result subjects like this need to be approached with some degree of nuance, and stitched properly into the fabric of the game, rather than awkwardly dumped on the player at the end of a level. It's incongruous, and over-earnest. It's a shame, because as a narrative device climbing a mountain is fertile ground. It has danger, obstacles to be overcome, a clear beginning and a very definite end. In Celeste however it never really feels like you're climbing a mountain at all except insofar as you're generally moving upwards.

So those are the flaws, but they are rendered almost irrelevant by the platforming itself, which nudges up against perfection throughout. The warp and weft of the level design is better than anything you'll find in a 2D game outside of Super Meat Boy. It is an absolute joy to control, and the economy of the moveset(jump, dash, climb; that's it) means that the innovation instead comes in the form of certain structural gimmicks that run through each level.
These are implemented with such skill, such invention, and are paced so well, that I finished a few of them and literally exhaled in awe. There are huge, diaphanous blocks which extend your dash as you pass through them; there are levels where ferocious winds extend your basic jump, or curtail it; there are levels in which platforms smash forwards whenever you dash; if this sounds confusing, trust me on this: it's all intuitive, and deeply satisfying to play. It's undeniably demanding, but crucially, and as with SMB, the restart time is so short that you can instantly throw yourself back into the level as soon as you die.
I've completed it, and I died A LOT(just over i600 times!), but the design is so good there's never a doubt about why you messed up, or what you should've done; not once did I think 'forget this - this is just unhinged' as I did with the post end-game levels in SMB. Celeste's difficulty curve is gloriously smooth.

In summary, this is the best platformer, 3D or otherwise, on the Switch. Seriously.

Celeste easily ranks up there alongside the likes of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Shovel Knight as one of the best 2D platformers to be released this decade. The high-speed platforming poses a tough but fun and fair challenge, and the way the clever story is woven into the gameplay is especially brilliant. This game is definitely a must play for any fans of the genre.

Celeste is a great 2D plat-former whom can be quite challenging at times, but will always feel fair! Celeste is a great 2D plat-former whom can be quite challenging at times, but will always feel fair! The game only uses four main mechanics: Move, Jump, Dash and wall-climbing, and tweaks those as you continue the great story line by adding some power-ups or objects of interest throughout the level.

The more you play, the more the cutesy protagonist gets to you, or so is my experience with the game. The music also provides a great atmosphere for the game, and fits with the action and story-elements really well!

I would suggest buying this game if you are a Switch user, even if you don't necessary like plat-former's!

This is a review I'm hesitant to write because while I managed to get to the end credits I propably have only seen 30% of what this game has to offer. But then again I think it can be valuable to present my opinion as a more casual player of this game.
What's really good about Celeste is how incredibly responsive and satisfying it is to play (which is absolutely crucial in plattformer).

What's really good about Celeste is how incredibly responsive and satisfying it is to play (which is absolutely crucial in plattformer). The game also does a great job of contextualising the levels with a neat story while also providing a clear goal of wanting to reach the top of a mountain.
The game is also very strong from an audio-visual standpoint. The music is nice and the visuals are simple but pretty while also being very functional in giving the player a good understanding of the level layout.
Celeste is a very difficult game and lots of level sections will propably require mulitple attempts to get through. Thankfully you will respawn quickly and usually only have to retry the current obstacle that you are struggling with. The only exception was the last big level before the credits roll which had brutal checkpoints in my opinion. I struggled a lot during that section.
But in the end I got to the credits with almost 3000 deaths on the counter. This shows how tough the game is but also how motivated I was to finish it. I don't think I would've put up with that in any other game.
However, this is pretty much how far I was willing to go. There are endgame levels, as well as remixes of earlier levels and additional challenges like collecting items. I tried to play further. However, I didn't meet the required criteria to access a lot of that content and trying to unlock it or finish the remixed levels proved very challenging and at that point I also wasn't as motivated anymore. In the end I'm still very happy with what I got out of this game and just playing the main story already was worth the money.
I'd like to add that thankfully the game offers assist modes which basically function like cheat codes to make the game easier. I find using them to be very unsatisfying. But if someone was seriously stuck I think these might provide a way to make levels more doable.

Overall I had a great experience even if the endgame content wasn't for me. The story alone is worth playing and I recommend it to anyone who has a decent skill level in plattformers.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There is no easy way to sum up Celeste. The term 'bottled lightning' is prudent, however. For an indie game with a staff of five people, it checks an assortment of the token boxes of current releases.

    -Good music.
    -Fun, arcadey gameplay.
    -Collectible depth.
    -Unique art style.
    -Gameplay depth.

There were a good many things I didn't want to like about Celeste as I loaded the game and began my first file, not realizing that I had already skimmed over some options like the assist mode and the fact that you can name your character, Madeline by default.

The game starts with this 3D overlay of the mountain, where you are dumped into the prologue. Right off the bat this was incredibly jarring, but since it was so surface-level, it merely felt like signs of what may be a greater condition.

The prologue itself seemed light, average even. You know little about Madeline, other than she wants to climb this mountain, and that she shows signs of a typical protagonist that second-guesses themselves. You're introduced to a side character and the game goes on to show you the air-dash mechanic. Standard stuff.

From here on out the game begins to subvert expectations. You could spend a lot of time discussing the intricacies of movement in the game, how you continue to learn things well into the post-game, and the fact that it is done almost entirely tutorial-free, but to focus on just the gameplay is lacking perspective on this release.

What Celeste manages to do with a bizarre precision is interweave the storyline elements into the gameplay itself. What at first was something that had me hunkering down to pander violently to the whims of the indie game market very quickly became something that was pulling me along to its own individual, personal style.

While Celeste is not a tragedy, it is in many ways tragic, and I'm sure to many relateable. Madeline is simply running. She needs to get away from something in her past that she can't deal with, and the story buffers this with discussions about anxiety and depression.

What is shocking about this is the gameplay itself leans into it as well, and it leans hard.

'Boss' fights where you are being chased. Somber, massive areas designed to make you feel lost. A story-element mini-game about dealing with anxiety (which is used remarkably well later in the game as a visual effect). An incredible, intense boss sequence that leaves you feeling revitalized, and a perfect crescendo to finish the game, triumphant. Even something of a bittersweet ending.

Now that's not to say it's perfectly executed. Some of the lines and characters are so unbelieveably cheesy and deliberate it can be hard to stomach at first, but the game wins you over on so many other levels that you can't help but be taken for the ride.

For there to even be a game that tackles subjects like depression and actually emulate it to some degree isn't something to be taken lightly, since this doesn't really happen very much in the medium, so this game is likely going to be very highly regarded from people concerned about narrative.

Upon beating the game, my expectations were subverted one final and harrowing time. This was the sweetest fruit (strawberry, if you will) for me. While I was amused with the storyline being well executed and still high off the fumes of the final stage, progress is halted. I needed to start finding elaborately hidden secrets in every main stage, and beating incredibly difficult b-side versions of the main stages. The reward? Even more difficult stages, certainly. The fox-hole goes incredibly deep in Celeste, and it is rewarding.

The music is complementary and interwoven seamlessly into the experience. This itself is an art that was honestly very well done. Hitting specific triggers advances the loop in the songs, all arranged around the scenes adeptly. The soundtrack itself stands alone quite well, an interesting showcase being the two compositions for the mirror temple. Very emotional music with a very personal flair. It really needs to be said that the audio enhances this game on many levels, feeling like a character in the story.

When thinking of slights against Celeste, quickly I get to surface level, petty complaints (I don't like the chapter end stills they use, at all!!!). The core game itself is gorgeous, an absolute treat to behold visually with rich and varied color schemes, always anchored against Madeline's character sprite as a stiff contrast. Intricate detail in the world, no secret felt truly hidden.

So that's why I think bottled lightning sums it up. This product could not have been made by anyone else. It's relentlessly charming, and follows through on every set up. By no means is this game a masterpiece, it's not trying to be. It's a relentless tour-de-force that is pushing the genre where it needs to go.

Pretty great game, fun gimmick with the dash. The level design is all amazing, each of which all have quirks that set them apart. The only negative I can even think of is that the b slides are a bit of a grind. With level design that seems a lot more difficult rather then challenging. Even the narrative is a fun ride, and I didn't expect it to be on the level it is. Overall definitely 100%Pretty great game, fun gimmick with the dash. This game far surpassed my expectations. The controls are tight, the soundtrack is great, and the story is surprisingly good for a 2D platformer. There are some who'll find it to be a bit challenging so don't go in expecting it to be a cake walk, but I'd recommend it to anyone who's looking for a challenge.

Celeste is near perfect. The retro 2d graphics does its work and is not overly gimmicky. The controls are SUPER TIGHT, one of the best I've touched on a modern game. The story is relevant and easy to follow. Sure, there's a lot between the lines and the symbols are a bit on the nose, BUT they are not pretentious and feels genuine and drawn from experience. It's about depression but not in a way that validates trigger warnings though it doesn't pull any punches, which takes us to the difficulty level! Celsete is HARD, like oldschool-learn-by-doing-and-failing hard. It fits with the theme of getting over your real or imagined limits. After a frustrating but rewarding first level the game just keeps ramping up. You level up by learning to play. The design is a marvel of pedagogic teaching in game mechanics. Coming back to the first level you will be struck by how easy it suddenly is.
Bottom line about the difficulty: I've never, ever played a game that was still fun to play even after dying so many times. I cursed like a sailor in mud but I felt that it was fair and if it was to frustrating it was a sign for me to quit and try again later.
I give Celeste a solid 9 but that is only because I leave the 10 for my 3 top games of all time.

I'm gonna be honest, it's not a 10. I usually don't care about story or connect with characters, so lets just assume the story is good, and I won't dock any points on that. The controls are tight, and it's all fun and good... until you get to the hard stuff. I'm usually good at games, and have beat most stages. However, later on in the game's harder stages, rooms keep being the same. You attempt a long sequence of jumping and dashing, and you get no breaks, which is fine. The problem I found was that it was you had to do it pretty well. I kept trying the same jumps and changing one minor thing, until I get the correct set of inputs and pass the room. It's very grindy to pass a single room, and then it's the same for the next room. I'd keep trying to do the same things and every time I passed a room it would be really rewarding. The jumps take everything from your moveset, and there isn't really much creativity for the player on how to make them, just do what it needs you to do, and get to the next room. This tells my brain that I should dislike the nature of this game, but my brain disagrees. At the end of the day, I can't stop playing, because all the frustration from the stages is dwarfed by the huge sense of satisfaction when you complete it, which makes the game so great. GOTY? no. But it is a game you should try. Expand

    CONS:
    - On Switch, the joy con analog is not precise enough. So I had to go back to the D-pad for precise movements and the 4 buttons on the joy con are so painful to use. My thumbs still hurt the day after I played. Besides the LZ button is too far for the D-pad, so my hand also hurts... I guess no problem with a Pro controller, but I don't have one...
    - It very linear. No way to go wrong in the story, but... maybe it's not a con...

    RELATED TO OTHER CRITICISM

I never felt that the game was about luck but precise control and rhythm. So, I respectfully disagree with those comments. You could get to where you need to go by luck sometimes, but by being precise and with LOTS of practice, there is no way to miss it. Same as in SMB actually, except that SMB is easier (I loved it too). So for people who did not enjoy it because of the difficulty, I totally get it. No worries. But I think that the difficulty can be overcome.

For people who actually finished SMB and Hollow Knight, this one is perfectly feasible. I think it's super fair and not as punishing as Hollow Knight. Hollow knight took me more than 70 hours to go go beyond 100% (with the DLC...). Hollow Knight is super fair, BUT PUNISHING. You make a mistake and it slaps you in the face, then kick you in the ass and is ready to punish you again for your next mistake. I cried when I finished it. in Celeste, you are "invited" to die and restart the exact challenge. The game does not punish you by forcing you to go back in the past. You almost restart where you missed. I wish life was like this !

Some of the areas, (especially the end levels) require lots of focus, and skill.

The game teaches its mechanics as you go, with each level introducing at least 3 new different mechanics. All of these mechanics will then be in the final level.

Speaking of levels, the level designs are amazing as there is some much diversity in level design, You can't dazzle the audience with the same bell and whistles. And if you want more of a challenge, each level has a B-Side, and a C-Side, which makes the level harder, if you want a challenge. I had fun playing these sides, and it kept me playing for awhile.

I'm not going to go into the story because I might spoil something for someone, but the story was good.

The only reason it got a 9 was because some of the B-Side mechanics are a bit hard to pull off.

For all those people who are saying "This game sucks because it is pixelated" or "This game is hard so it sucks." If you don't like it then don't buy it. OR bring up ACTUAL things to support your opinion.

My hands actually hurt from gripping the Switch but I couldn’t stop, and when I finally landed on the other side of one of the many gauntlets that Celeste wears like a medal, I felt both relief and curiosity as to what it would throw at me next. It’s a rewarding experience and a game that I’m honoured to issue a perfect score.
