Two designs collide gloriously in a Zelda variation that rivals the greatness of the core games themselves. [Eurogamer Essential]

Cadence of Hyrule feels like a french fry dunked into a milkshake. There’s two distinct flavors at play—the deep exploration of a Zelda game with the bouncy pace of a rhythm game—and they mix together into something greater than the initial pitch. In combining two addictive yet contrasting gameplay styles, Cadence of Hyrule crafts a brief and brilliant flash of adventure.

The pairing of The Legend of Zelda and Crypt of the Necrodancer was a mash-up I never expected, but it's a compelling experience that manages to succeed in every possible way.

The greatest compliment I can give to Cadence of Hyrule is that if I didn’t know any better, I would say this was made by an in-house Nintendo development team. The amount of care and affection found in every area of the game makes it feel astounding that an indie developer was able to pull this off with such confidence. [Polygon Recommends]

Cadence of Hyrule marries The Legend of Zelda with Crypt of the Necrodancer. The results are quite charming indeed....I can't actually play it very well... at all... but I am enjoying it nonetheless!

Cadence of Hyrule is proof of the creative breakthroughs you can achieve when you’re willing to combine fresh, original, and ambitious game design with a property as established and fiercely guarded as Zelda.

The map has that Zelda feel to it. The enemies feel like they belong in a zelda game. Problem is the playability of the game rivals that of StarFox Zero. Players are forced to move and attack only when the rythm allows them to. You have no clue when enemies will attack. Forcing the player to guess and take damage. Waiting to move and attack only when the rythm allows makes the gameplay feel slow and restricting. With the rythm mechanic their is literally only one way to play this game. There is no freedom for the player and basically turns the game into a on rail experience. Full Review »

I haven't put it down other than to write this small review. Cadence of Hyrule is... fun, really really REALLY fun. The music is absolutely amazing, the gameplay is well serviced and the visual design is beautiful. I found it to be quite hard at first, but more time spent learning the rhythm of different songs and using different elements to kill certain enemies has made it a very challenging but fair experience. The price may be high for what is an indie title... but so far I think its worth every pound, dollor or euro. Do yourself a favour, and buy this game. 10/10 Full Review »
