    This game is a blast! Yes, the gameplay is casual but it has a lot of heart and it’s weird in the right ways.

    20 hours to 100%
    Can finish with light side questing in around 15 hours.
    This game absolutely had to shocked with how much I enjoyed it. The look of this game is deceiving as it sorta can come off as a silly kids game but it's anything but. The writing tackles some mature subject matters and handles it all so beautifully. I did not expect at all that this game would have as good of    20 hours to 100%

    The writing tackles some mature subject matters and handles it all so beautifully. I did not expect at all that this game would have as good of writing as it did. It had me charmed with how great the characters were written and their development throughout the story. The writing really made me care about these characters and made them feel living and breathing. I totally enjoyed them all and getting to know them.

    The plot of the game gets wild. The cute exterior of this game gets really bleak, dark and slightly disturbing towards the end. I was fascinated with how the overarching plot managed to pull off something deep and meaningful out of a collectable monster catching genre. It's definitely something that will stick with me and even made me tear up a bit.

    The gameplay is also just so fun and well paced. Right when things are getting repetitive a new area opens up. Stumbling on new bugs was a fun gameplay loop to it too. I really enjoyed filling out the journal of all the bugs and tackling the variety of ways to capture them.

    This game is just so incredibly stylish with its presentation. The characters and environment are so whimsical and fun to get lost in, I found it all so creative. I also enjoyed the music and voice acting.

    Overall I seriously enjoyed my entire time with this game, it's difficult to think of anything negative after having such a well rounded experience.    … Expand

    All of my kids have enjoyed being backseat drivers, telling me where to go next and which Bugsnax to try to attack. The biggest chuckles have come from the scenes where NPCs get their bodies changed by eating the captured Bugsnax: I just let the children take the reins there and decide whether, for example, Wambus Troubleham should get a watermelon for a nose.     My first romp with Bugsnax back in 2020 was pleasant, but playing it again in 2022 with the free DLC has taken an enjoyable adventure and elevated it to an addicting one. Like many games, the Switch holds the title back ever so slightly in the performance arena but makes up for it in terms of mobility — who wouldn’t want to catch bugsnax on the go? No matter what way you choose to capture and catalog, Bugsnax is still a must-play game even 2 years later. If you’ve played Bugsnax before but have yet to enjoy the free BIGSnax DLC, there’s no better time than now to revisit Snaktooth Island and discover its bugsnax; if you haven’t played at all, then this is your sign to pick up this surprisingly deep (and dark) experience.

    Due to some frustrating issues with the control system, unaddressed technical flaws, and an overall sense of repetitiveness that starts taking over all too early in the game, Bugsnax leaves the impression it could have made a much larger splash but as it is, this adventure/exploration game doesn't quite stand up to its peers.
