Broken Sword 5 - The Serpent's Curse

One of the great point & click sagas comes to Nintendo Switch. Enjoy its excellent history, its great variety of puzzles and situations, and discover a very rare genre in recent years. Its excellent dubbing and narrative style will make you feel inside a novel.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse is a good adventure than delivers a captivating story with great characters and humor.

Undoubtedly one of the best versions of the product.

Joining many other quality examples of its genre on Switch, Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse continues the series' excellent storytelling and puzzle structure, with what is sure to please both fan and newcomer alike with fiendish brainteasers and the optional hint system. A more contained story structure, and character movement hitches aside, point-and-click adventure devotees will find a lot to love here.

Even now, Broken Sword 5 still looks gorgeous, and although its murder-turned-conspiracy story feels somewhat rote these days, its characters and dialogue are still great fun to watch as the drama unfolds.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse doesn’t revolutionize adventure games, nor will it particularly appeal to players who aren’t used to slower point-and-click gameplay. However, it succeeds in following the developer’s vision for the series: a modern update in the style of the original. The puzzles may have logic jumps, and the story’s action ebbs and flows. But the witty characters, perplexing mysteries, and traditional problem-solving are enough to win over fans of the genre.

It isn’t the best adventure game released in recent years, but it’s charming, fun and a worthy update of a four-year-old title that you might have overlooked.

As good as it has ever been, but if you’ve already played it on one of the numerous formats it’s already available on, it’s probably not a high priority to play again.

Broken Sword 5 arrives on Switch with no significant new elements. After the first two chapters, this is probably the best of the series, with a good plot and well written enigmas.

A good fit for the Switch. In terms of the game play, it doesn’t add anything that previous versions didn’t have, however the addition of the bonus content showing the development process is a nice extra for long terms fans of the series. Games like this are more suited to portable play in general so it is great to have Broken Sword on the Switch.

Broken Sword 5 delivers a competent point-and-click, with a cast of colorful characters, a rollicking-if-cheesy adventure, and solid puzzle design. Some minor issues with gameplay and puzzle design don’t harm the game’s quality too much, and in such an undeserved genre they’re forgivable. The biggest issue with the game is that it is a bit too married to convention both in plot and gameplay. Broken Sword 5 won't stick with like classics of the point-and-click Golden Age, but it’s still a solid adventure and I’ll be keeping my eyes open for future (and past) travels of George and Nico.

All in all, Broken Sword 5 is a good adventure with good visuals, a good story, and enjoyable puzzle segments. It's not the hardest, it's not the best, and it certainly comes at a price point many won't find acceptable, but it's an enjoyable experience nonetheless.

The Serpent's Curse isn't the best entry in the beloved Broken Sword series, but it's still an enjoyable adventure, particularly on the Nintendo Switch.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse doesn’t do anything special for the point-and-click genre, but that’s perfectly fine as it does exactly what it sets out to do. As a fan of the first two games, this was what I wanted. Not everything is perfect, such as the animations and some inconsistent voice acting. However, if you’re a fan, you will find a lot more to love than the average player.

It is safe to say that Broken Sword 5 on the Switch is the ultimate version of Charles Cecil's Adventure game. Being able to switch (no pun intended) between handheld and console mode is a great feature for a game such as this one. And the addition of brand new bonus videos is a nice touch for fans of the franchise.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse is a decent adventure title that fans of the series will no doubt appreciate. It looks gorgeous, but clunky, long winded gameplay design holds it back from greatness.

Awkward controls and an uninspiring score thankfully don't sink a game with an intriguing story and well-designed puzzles.
