Broforce is very good at one thing: playing with friends. Otherwise, it's not a remarkable game. It has competent, but never great, 2D retro graphics, a very simple shoot-and-run gameplay loop, and one gimmick: you can destroy almost everything in the world. On the other hand, it has abundant shortcomings, one above all: it's very RNG-heavy. Everything in the game, from the character youBroforce is very good at one thing: playing with friends. On the other hand, it has abundant shortcomings, one above all: it's very RNG-heavy. Everything in the game, from the character you get to the outcome of fights, is heavily dependent on luck.

Boss battles are particularly offensive in that regard. After finishing the game, I honestly think that we beat more bosses because of glitches than by relying on skill or tactics. That made for some frustrating moments, because some bosses are extremely hard, except when you get the right combo of characters and glitches that allows you to cheese them. I swear that sometimes we weren't even sure how we won.

Based on those problems, Broforce would be a crappy game. All those issues, however, become secondary when you play Broforce in couch co-op. That's when all the randomness, the crazy out-of-control chained explosions, the amusing satirical mission briefings and even the glitches come together to make for a great party game. If you have a friend over, then Broforce is hysterical fun. If you have two or three, then it's even more hysterical fun. There were many moments in the game that felt like a slog, but there were also times when we literally cried out of laughing.

All in all, Broforce is a fun co-op game that will make you laugh out loud at its absurdity–but it's a pity that all the frustrations and randomness weren't designed out.

An incredibly satisfying shoot 'em up. More enjoyable with friends in my opinion

With a goofy humor that throws many references at the player, Broforce is a very entertaining run n' gun game, in which mayhem seems to be the main focus. Despite some minor tech drawbacks, it is a fun game to be played with friends.

Broforce is a hilariously explosive 2D action-platformer with a memorable catch-'em-all cast of action movie caricatures. The action may be a little one-note, but when that note is as big and bold as it is here, you'll be all-too-willing to disengage your brain and engage your trigger finger. After playing through the seemingly unending series of critically-acclaimed, high-brow 2D action titles on Switch, this is the perfect way to unwind.

My time with Broforce followed an arc of first loving the concept, then being exhausted by it before coming back around and loving the blend of nonsense bro jokes and amusing gunplay and levels. This all works best with a bros playing locally, but even if you’re playing solo (brolo?), Broforce is still a fun romp.
