I have played basically every kart racer from every era, and I bought this game to play for a project I am working on. Funnily enough, one I've yet to play is Beach Buggy Racing 1, but this game, seems to be, without closer examination, that game plus more. Nintendolife gave it an eight, and that is an insane score, though it is far from unplayable.

The good: The space Levels are super cool, and a few of the cars and drivers with that theme are cool. Individual powerups add some extra fun. Extremely customizable, you can make your own rule sets like Smash Bros.

The Bad: Some levels are to long and Boring. You have to complete parts of adventure mode to 100% in order to unlock some vehicles, but adventure mode is just a boring grind most of the time. The difference between the easiest and next easiest setting is like flipping on a switch. It goes from "this is so easy a five year old could do it" to "oh man, the lackluster game design and loose controls are making this frustrating to play". The controls are loose, and the game can be frustrating sometimes. It's just not much fun for very long,

Conclusion: I prefer race with Ryan and Garfield Kart furious racing personally, and neither of those are that good. It is however decidedly better than all star fruit racing which I also have for switch and is abysmal. If you want to buy this but do not yet own (in this order) Mario Kart 8, Crash Team Racing, Nickelodeon 2 Grand Prix, and Team Sonic Racing, buy one of those first.

Beach Buggy Racing 2: Island Adventure delivers more than its predecessor, but there’s also more competition on the Switch in 2021 than in 2017. I can’t say I find the additions significantly more enjoyable, and there’s still plenty that could be improved. Despite offering a lesser version of karting staples seen elsewhere, this should still be enjoyable to fans of the first.

Beach Buggy Racing 2 builds on the already decent first game to provide a genuinely entertaining karting title. It may come just short of competing with the Marios, Sonics and Crash Bandicoots of this world, but it's nevertheless a solid racer that runs smoothly, provides satisfying controls and has an enormous amount of things to do before you can consider it 100% complete. If you're looking for another karting game you should really give this one some consideration, despite the lack of recognisable branding.
