    First time playing Bayonetta:

Bayonetta has one of the craziest fast-paced combat you can ever imagine. Only game like Metal Gear REVENGEANCE or Vanquish (made by same developer, Platinumgames) can make you feel the same, with a non-stop action. Story and dialogue is great, keeping it serious but at the same time ridiculous (again, same as Metal Gear REVENGEANCE).

Performance on the switch is beautiful. 60fps (with a few dips) and 720 for handheld that looks perfect (Dissapointing that it is also 720 when docked but, if it is to keep the 60fps, I am okay).

The only that bothered me is that some cutscenes were just shots of the game with voiceover, which it is not too bad.

    I highly recommend this game.

So. Much. Fun. I'm really enjoying Bayonetta. I've never played it before, but it's worth the low entry price.

It's quite hard in places, and I die a lot, But that's not really annoying. Combos and witch time are fun when you pull them off, and the graphics are decent if not amazing. Fighting massive enemies with zero slow down is a blast!

I thought it would be better to play 1 first. And boy was I right! I LOVE this game! I've spent about 12 hours in the game since it came out last Friday, and I'm still not done with it. The combat is very engaging and fun to do if you're not stuck in an unfair boss fight us amazing and is probably better than most versions of this game since it can actually keep a constant FPS while battling and etc. The soundtrack is amazing! Such songs like Fly Me To The Moon (Climax Mix) (also fun fact, you cant record videos with this song in it because its copyrighted), Mysterious Destiny, and Riders of the Light have been stuck in my head for the past week! And since the Switch has video capture, I have been keeping all of the funny bits of cut scenes Ive encountered in the game onto my Switch. Its taken up almost a half of gb of my storage, and will continue taking up storage until I beat the game... not that its a bad thing, it just shows how much I love the cut scenes. I don't want to spoil too much about the game, but Bayonetta as a character is very bad-ass and outrageous, and I love it. It certainly makes her a character to remember. And a supporting character in the game is also very nice. He's always falling or cussing at Bayonetta for sneaking up at him, and his Prince Charming personality is fun to watch as it conflicts with Bayonetta's personality.

I am loving this game but there's a couple things holding me back from giving it a 10/10.

    1. The saving is confusing
As I was playing Chapter 2 (early on in the game), I exited the game via going back to the chapter menu (because it said it would auto-save if I went back there) and then closed my software. To my surprise I had to start the chapter all over again. The game doesn't say how to save if you're in a middle of a chapter, and it discourages me from starting a chapter unless I know I will play through it all in one try or I will keep it suspended while I do other things. I haven't tried closing the software mid-game, but I do not want to risk losing my progress.

    2. The pace of the story is just a little bit confusing
When you're introduced to the story, in the beginning parts of the game especially everything goes by really fast, and they just drop you into the story expecting you to know things about the lore. I'm not sure if this is just me, as I often don't pay attention, or the game itself. As the game is explaining its lore you're in a battle against some weak enemies in a very distracting setting. Battling in this scene caused me to either a. Hyper-focused on it or b. Space out while battling. But I'm sure if I re watch the cut scene in a cut scene compilation on YouTube it might help out. I just feel like I'm not the only one who might find the pace of the story confusing

Bayonetta takes a niche genre (the combo-centered fighting ballet first explored by Devil May Cry), and hones it to absolute perfection. You can love or hate this game, but you're unlikely to find a deeper, more refined and varied combat system. This is certainly one of the games I played the most in my life–hundreds of hours–and I still feel like I have a lot to learn in the area of fighting. The kicking and punching in Bayonetta can be just a video game, or it can ascend to the level of a hobby–something as nuanced and complex as playing a musical instrument.

All that mechanical virtuosity is even more striking in the context of Bayonetta's totally bonkers setting and story–one of the most amazingly Japanese-weird, sexual innuendo-ridden, embarrassingly badly-written scripts in gaming. Imagine, if you can, the most terrible B-movie you ever watched, the one that is fun to watch precisely because it's so bad. And now, imagine if that movie also had the most gripping non-stop action you've ever seen. If you can imagine that, then that's what Bayonetta feels like, from its hectic beginning to its insanely big ending.

You can decide for yourself how many layers deep you want to play Bayonetta. Do you want to just complete the game? Complete it at the highest difficulty, which makes it almost feel like a different game? Do you want to beat the “hidden game” of gaining Platinum trophies in every level? Are you ambitious enough to challenge the hidden boss, one of the hardest fights ever seen in a video game? Hundreds of pages of guidebooks came out for people who're looking to master the nuances of this game's mechanics, but even reading all of them doesn't guarantee perfect success.

You might never unlock everything and complete every challenge that Bayonetta throws at you. As an old man with limited controller skills, I'm comfortable with the knowledge that I'll never complete the Angel Slayer levels. That's OK, just as it's OK that I'll never land a handle pass on a kiteboard, or write code as good as the best programmers out there. We have limitations, and some games are good enough to make us bump into them.

But dammit, I beat the hidden boss. All those hours of training weren't spent in vain.

The game has aged. Despite an upscaling, and some small bonuses, this is not enough to correct the flaws of the Wii version. But it's still a good and funny game. Humor, violence... and sexy !
However, I prefer the second episode : less routine, more combos, better production

I really, really wanted to love this game. I waited for months to get it (I'm on a very tight budget).
As a huge fan of GoW (1 and 2) I always wanted Nintendo to have its own Kratos. The 2 meters high chick with glasses, big breasts, weighing 40 kilos, wearing pistols on her shoes, seemed a perfect Kratos for Nintendo. I am rather disappointed.

Graphics and setting: Graphics are fine, I mostly played handheld. It suits the genre. Stylish, good enough looking.
Controls: I don't get this part. Why are most controls tied to the right hand? My right fingers were aching after half an hour while I barely used the left hand. At least the lock on target could be on the left hand trigger. It is just plain stupid to use three fingers simultaneously on the right hand while you barely touch the controller with the left.
Story: as others mentioned it is really hard to understand. It should suit the genre (you should kill everyone you see in bloody action, the story is just some kind of background why you do that), but it is mostly confusing and not really comprehensible. English is not my native language, but usually I do not have problems with understanding game stories.
Gameplay: Now this is what I do not get. I am not the guy to complain about hard games. If it is that hard I can't enjoy then I set it to a lower difficulty level. But this game fails big time in this aspect.
I am definitely not the best player around. I am way over 15 so my reflexes are getting slower. However I played GoW 1 and 2 through at least 6-8 times each on Hard difficulty (not God and Titan mode, mind you, those were more frustration than fun for me). It was harder at first and almost a breeze after some playthroughs. I couldn't finish this game on normal. Enemies are hard to read, give really small and very fast signs of hits, it is hard to dodge or block. Somewhere roughly by the middle of the game I switched from normal to easy (shame! :)) Now this is where the real frustration starts. On easy all you have to do is keep pushing one button to win. The game will automatically decide what action to take on pushing that one button. Quick attack, strong attack, dodge, jump, etc. You can LITERALLY win most of the fights (non-boss fights) with eyes closed. Believe me, I tried. So there is no difficulty level I could enjoy this game on. I've read on forums that Bayonetta 2 is better in this regard. I hope for the best.

Bayonetta has gameplay much like DMC but requires the finger gymnastics of a Tekken master to truly enjoy which is a very poor combination given the speed at which gameplay flows you'll end up forgetting about half the moces you could do in favour of the ones that are quick to execute. Arenas in the game are mostly quite small not leaving you even any room to maneuver and begin building up a series of moves the closest you get to this is the very start of the game but the problem here is that you are just thrown into the game at 1000 miles an hour with no explanation as to the fighting mechanics, a problem compounded by the fact controls are not overly intuitive and needlessly complicated. There's a reason DMC is by far and away more popular, there controls are intuitive and require far less finger gymnastics to string together. Overall gameplay in Bayonetta is just very poorly balanced and the fact the developers even have items in the game you can make or buy for invincibility somewhat suggest they knew this was a problem so just applied a lazy bandaid fix rather than balancing properly.

This game disappointed me immensely. I hope Bayonetta 2 is better when I come to play that after completing this.

I feel the need to precede this by stating that I actually really really really liked parts of Bayonetta, a lot. There are many parts of this game I’d rank at a solid 10 on their own. But, as a whole, I was just a little disappointed, because of some other annoying things that were hard for me to ignore.

For starters, the cut scenes were incredibly frequent and gratuitously long, especially those exasperatingly long action cut scenes that never seemed to end. And throughout the duration, I always found myself wishing that I was the one controlling the action. And there are multiple lengthy cut scenes in every single chapter. You can skip them, but then you’d miss the story, and it’s a shame that a lot of the story is padded between excessively long action scenes.

Secondly, in the same vein, many segments throughout this game are gratuitous. The developers just don’t seem to know when to quit. I really liked that there were a ton of levels that broke away from the basic core combat system, and extremely frequently you’ll be doing something different and exciting, but those initially exciting sequences overstay their welcome long before they’re over. The second worst offender is a level where you’ll be riding on a high speed motorcycle down the highway, and I’m not exaggerating when I say that level stretches on for longer than fifteen minutes. That’d be fine if they had you doing more interesting stuff during that level, but it’s a literal fifteen minutes of pushing forward continuously on the control stick, and jumping when they tell you to jump. It was fun at first, but it got old quickly and it never seemed to end. But the absolute worst is a level where you’re riding a missile to a tower across a large body of water Star Fox 64 style, only it’s not anywhere near as fun as that sounds. There is nothing interesting to do for longer than ten minutes, other than dodge some repetitive obstacles, and you just keep riding forward for what feels like an eternity. There are other levels that stretch on gratuitously, but those are the two absolute worst.

Third, the time spent between combat segments in each level of the game are weak, and they are much longer than they need to be.

And fourth, the story is very difficult to follow, and it’s all over the place. I like how crazy the story is, but it’s be nice if they made it a little more focused.

And fifth, there’s a lot of little things, like invisible walls everywhere and somewhat often it’s unclear what you’re supposed to be doing to progress, or sometimes the camera angles are frustrating, etc. Just minor design issues that hampered my enjoyment of the game.

That all being said, I really loved a lot of this game. When it’s good, it’s really bloody good. The bosses are spectacularly creative, the combat is fun, and you never know what’s coming next. I’ve heard Bayonetta 2 is a massive improvement, and that it improves upon the pacing and that it refined all of the things that were great about this game, so I’m eager to check it out soon.

It's pretty hard to believe that "Bayonetta" has now been out for 9 years (8 in the US). It's probably also hard to believe that I didn't play the game myself until this re-release on the Switch. I remember watching my brother play it in small increments back in 2010 on the Xbox 360, but since I was feeding my "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band" addiction at the time, I myself didn't play it when it was big back then. However, after a number of people very highly recommended it to me, I had to give it a shot. And I must say, I was extremely impressed.
"Bayonetta" is incredibly fast-paced: being an action game, that should be a given, but the game never ceases to be exciting. Even in some of its "slower" moments, the game is fun and exciting. The bigger moments are where things pick up even more, with some really fantastic boss fights that only serve to make the game even better. The combat in the game is also extremely fluid (aided by the Switch port running at a smooth 60 FPS) and the "Witch Time" mechanic adds an amazing layer to the gameplay, allowing for more strategy, but also for more unique ways of going about things. While the visuals may show their age just a bit, they still look pretty good (especially when you consider it IS a nine-year old game), and while the story may be pretty off-the-wall (it's about a witch who kills angels, do you expect Dickens here?), the bonkers nature of it manages to keep it pretty interesting.
The only things holding the game back from being a 10 is that the instafail Quick Time Events can be a bit frustrating to deal with (I get QTEs are supposed to be fast, but THIS fast?), and the game can feel a bit too button-mashy at times. Also, I don't know what it is, but when it comes to giving 10 out of 10 scores, I feel like a game needs to have that unexplainable "something" that makes it a 10, and I unfortunately didn't really find that in "Bayonetta." Maybe it was caused by the somewhat button-mashy nature or the frustrating QTEs, but I felt there was just something holding it back from being a 10.
Don't let that fool you, though, "Bayonetta" really is an amazing, and criminally underrated, game. How this game sold over a million copies but still didn't meet expectations is beyond me, because it really deserved far better. Now that it's on the Switch, though, there's yet another opportunity to try this game if you missed out on either the original release in 2010, the Wii U port in 2014, or the PC port in 2017. There's a lot of different ways to play it, so if you haven't already, give it a shot! You won't be disappointed!

Fast-paced, tight controls, good combo variety, nice weapon moves, a dedicated dodge button that's actually useful and a freedom for improvisation and style that rivals the likes of Nier Automata and DMC 5. I don't even know how they'll improve on the second one, but people say they do.
Other than that, the soundtrack is catchy, characters are well designed, the pacing of each level is good and the whole game just goes STRAIGHT to the point from the start, no BS.

Unfortunately, this game felt like a mess to me. Everything is pretty unforgiving and recycled.
The writing is horrible! There's a story going on, but it makes no sense and the result is a forgettable tale. Characters like Bayonetta, Jeanne and Rodin are great, but almost every other (like Cerezita) are obnoxious. And every woman in this game is VERY SEXUALIZED! Too unnecessary and disrespectful. It just seems like they tried to make everything as over the top as possible and, in the end, made something... childish?

And while the combat is astonishing, there are huge flaws in the gameplay design.
Bosses are EPIC, but just for the sake of it, making for long, confusing and tedious fights. Environments are bland, reused, with dull puzzles and clueless moments. Bosses are also recycled and you have to fight them over and over again, sometimes one after another. Bullet hell moments outstay their welcome. There are huge unbalanced difficulty spikes throughout the campaign. The rewarding system is punishing and requires perfection. Some enemies are not fun AT ALL to fight and Bayonetta is made of PAPER, since her health goes down TOO FAST!
The game is fun, but very annoying. These flaws almost broke the experience for me. Everything is too uneven.

I thought I was going to love Bayonetta like I love DMC, but I was wrong.
While I loved the soundtrack, character design and the astounding combat system, the rest was very frustrating and I almost stopped playing it. But even if defective, there's a charm to it. Even if it tries to hard to find it.

First of all I want to note on the music, it's absolutely phenomenal, it really captures the particular scenes you are in and invigorates the combat two-fold. It constantly keeps you on your toes and honestly let's you appreciate and enjoy its expert combat system.

Bayonetta has a charming personality and, graphically, has aged reasonably well. Although the colours are a little dried out I feel it adds to the current situation of the protagonist, Bayonetta, in the game. The landscapes of the game do feel a little repetitive after a while although it knows when to move onto the next area, just when you start to feel like you need a change it delivers, and it delivers well. The enemy types are expertly designed and put a creative twist on the views of "angels" however it managed to keep it's same enemy type theme extremely well so you know who you're fighting. Overall you wont be overwhelmed by the visuals but they are still good and serve as no hinder to the gameplay.

The story was interesting, finding out your main protagonist's back story as the game progresses was a good concept. It didn't blow me away but I still found it another reason to keep playing this fantastic game. You'll learn to love the characters while also finding yourself confused about the antagonist, you know slightly more than your own character, and can take guesses as to what's going to happen as the game progresses, which I find very important; if it's predictable I can't enjoy a story too much. However in the case of bayonetta it has some very interesting and original twists and turns throughout your time in the game. Although not stand out, the story is still well developed and will keep you hooked.

Gameplay wise this game has been masterfully made. I thoroughly enjoyed every single encounter, although sometimes the difficulty spiked and was very tough in some places I loved the challenge. I was learning new moves throughout my time constantly battling the angels and bosses in order to get to my goal, and it never felt repetitive or old. The game allows you to play how you want to play, it allows you to choose your own move set without setting them in stone and lets your build on it. I found the game's RPG mechanics interesting, not too complicated and satisfying. They were well woven into the gameplay and allowed you to experiment with them.

Overall Bayonetta is a highly recommended game for anyone who loves a good action game. If you're not too concerned about an amazing in depth story this game is fantastic. The masterfully designed gameplay mechanics allow you to play how you want to play without ever feeling old or repetitive. A charming game with an original personality, an exhilarating and enjoyable experience throughout.

Expand

I always skipped past this game, unsure if it would be something for me. This is, without a doubt, a 10/10 masterpiece. I love this game so much and I'm amazed of how badass a game can make you feel. On to the 2nd one and can't wait for the 3rd!

An instanct classic, originaly i gave it a 9/10 but i have to say bayoneta2 is way WAY better, it improved in every aspect, a complete 9.5
The game is about... you better find out yourself, just gonna say, sexual character who enjoys being sexy and funny without being sexist or insulting, mostly great humor, great characters (they don't do much besides Jeanne) but Lucah, Rodin and Enzo

Also the game is ridiculous but in a good way, like devil may cry 3, but a lot sexier and problably with a lot more of combos.
Also i love that it has a lot of unlockables that you pay with game from the game, and not a shop, or microtransactions, you buy the game and is complete, and the nintendo version has some skins (fox, mario1,mario2,link,samus) and they add moves to bayonetta (bigger changes on the sequel), also every skin of nintendo has a quirk, like being a morphball with bombs, charging the ui to starfox and have charging shots, changing halos to rupies, summoning bowser instead of demons, is all great fun.

This was a fun and flashy journey that reminded me of the classic Devil May Cry games in all the best ways. Aside from a fun protagonist, this game was just fun to play! An amazing soundtrack, flashy animations, a simple story with not so simple concepts, and a difficulty level that I felt never truly punished you more than it needed to which made it more encouraging to keep playing. This was a fun and flashy journey that reminded me of the classic Devil May Cry games in all the best ways. If you like this style of game you will love this one in particular. It's like God of War in that it can be kind of button-mashy but it really isn't. The only way you can get through this game and button mash is if you turn the difficulty down; all the way down. To do well in this game in a normal difficulty you do have to think about your combos and the battle. Excellently done.

There is a natural progression to this game where things get more difficult and they add variety. There's even some fun mini-game type moments that add to the charm.

Some people have criticized her outfits and how revealing they are and normally I would agree with them (felt this way in Final Fantasy X-2 among other games) but I don't here. In witch lore their power comes through sexual means so for this character to be presented in this way makes sense.

Le jeux est exigeant avec un niveau de difficulté bien dosé. il m' fallu environ 13H pour le finir une première fois en suivante le scénario, cependant pour débloquer tous les perso et objet il faudra sans doute monter à 20h de jeux. Having played Bayonetta for the first time on Switch, I had some concern it would feel dated, especially after playing through Bayonetta 2 on Wii U. However I found it difficult to believe this game is nearly a decade old. It has a sense of style and charm that many fail to achieve, all without sacrificing the most important element: fun and exciting gameplay. So while it’ll be easy to overlook this in favor of the sequel, in doing so you’d not only be doing a disservice to the game, but a disservice to yourself.

Bayonetta on the Nintendo Switch is a very fun experience on this console and it feels like a bad 70’s action movie and the story, characters and quirkiness of the gameplay is pure ingenious. The combat is quite fluid and diverse and whether you’re shooting, kicking or summoning demons, everything comes together perfectly. For male gamers, it does help that the character is oozing with sex appeal and even though some of the close-ups or open leg shots may be a little too much for some, it dares to be different and proves that a game can not only be fun but sexy as well.
