    Banner of the Maid is rough around the edges but past the pacing and localisation issues, players will find an engaging and unique narrative, along with easy to pick up gameplay that offers plenty of room to tailor the challenge.

    While Banner of the Maid nails the core mechanics and captures the essence of the genre, it’s hard to ignore the lackluster story and lack of modern features that are found in much of the competition. Its tactical RPG side shines and remains a solid choice for fans of the genre who appreciate the classic formula, but a little more polish wouldn’t hurt.

    The developers have done what is needed to bring the game to the Nintendo Switch as a highly proficient port, though they’ve done nothing of substance to update what the original release offered. Aside from the localisation, it didn’t need any updating anyway, and even considering that terrible localisation Banner of the Maid is one of the most refined, enjoyable tactics JRPGs on the console. Also, Pauline really is an excellent protagonist, and she is just that pretty. I hope it’s not the last we see of her… now that this is on Switch, let’s get her into Smash Bros next. I might even start playing that game again if she was.

    Normally, a strategy RPG with solid gameplay, an interesting story, beautiful art and a strong soundtrack is one I'd be recommending without question and I really wish I could give Banner of the Maid that recommendation. The awful translation just manages to seep down and poison every aspect of the game though, at least a little bit. If you just want to focus on the battles and that's enough for you in this sort of title, you may find a lot to like. With the genre quickly becoming crowded on the Switch, though, there are simply better options for you to spend your time and money on.

    It's clear that the developers of Banner of the Maid have a lot of love for the historical French period they've adapted in this game. Unfortunately, the gorgeous character art and intricate story is hampered by a rough localization and awkward gameplay systems. The intriguing characters are hard to follow thanks to awkwardly translated dialogue, while the upgrade and faction mechanics of the game only serve to bloat the experience. Banner of the Maid has plenty of solid ideas, but only a few of them truly shine through.

    I'm not finished with the game yet, but I felt compelled to go on metacritic and gush about it. The art is GORGEOUS. The translation is not perfect, but it's good enough. You could really tell the developers are big fans of French history and military tactics, as am I. Attention to detail and battle animations is what makes this game a 10 for me. I always did prefer the feeling of Warsong/Langrisser over Fire Emblem, and historical fiction over fantasy. Did I mention, the art is INCREDIBLE? It made me nostalgic for the days of anime when more attention was paid to hair and clothes. Anyway, going to get back to playing!… Full Review »

    He completado el juego en el máximo de dificultad y, aún habiéndolo disfrutado, banner of the maid esta plagado de malas decisiones de diseño,He completado el juego en el máximo de dificultad y, aún habiéndolo disfrutado, banner of the maid esta plagado de malas decisiones de diseño, un final anticlimático, y otros pequeños errores que hacen que no se merezca más nota.
    Aún así, si te gustan los juegos de rol de estrategia, este clon de fire emblem y similares puede ser, como digo muy disfrutable.
    Destaca especialmente el mundo que han recreado de una revolución francesa alternativa, con la existencia de brujas, que no es un planteamiento muy común para un videojuego y que esta bien conseguido (quitando las voces chinas en personajes franceses...). Los personajes, más o menos tópicos, són fáciles de querer y ayudan a meterte en la historia.
    Ahora, los aspectos negativos...
    - Los combates: esto se va haciendo evidente conforme avanzas en el juego, especialmente si quieres conseguir los bonus de victoria en cada batalla... los combates acaban siendo puzzles en los que ganas si sabes situar y mover a las unidades adecuadas en los lugares adecuados de forma milimetrica... en el sentido de saber lo que va a ocurrir a lo largo de la batalla (que tipo de refuerzos enemigos aparecerán en que lugar y en que momento). El problema es que no se trata de adaptar tus estrategias a las circunstancias como ocurre en otros rpg tacticos, si no en conocer las circunstancias de antemano (porque ya te hayas comido unos cuantos game overs, volviendose estupidamente repetitivo en este sentido... y esto en prácticamente TODOS LOS CAPITULOS).
    - Para conseguir ciertos objetivos el juego TE OBLIGA a farmear niveles con ciertos personajes (se me ocurren dos misiones que si no tienes a ciertos dos personajes al máximo nivel, ya te puedes ir olvidando de conseguirlos).
    - El sistema de afinidades con los diferentes grupos de Paris: una idea en principio muy buena (nuestras decisiones nos irán granjeando afinidad con unos u otros, desbloqueando nuevas armas, mejoras, etc. en la ciudad). El problema con este sistema, es que esta tan puñeteramente medido milimetricamente que es imposible maximizar todas las facciones si no se sigue una guía (y diferentes facciones dan armas para diferentes tipos de personajes, lo cual acabara dejándolos inservibles al final del juego si no cuidas esto...).
    - El final de la historia... te deja completamente a medias, habiendo una serie de personajes (los antagonistas básicamente) que nunca se acaban de explicar ni cerrar el arco con ellos. Además, el capitulo final del juego es completamente anticlimático y dejandote completamente a mitad... deberían haber acabado el juego en el penúltimo capitulo, que si que es mucho más apoteósico, ya que iban a dejar cabos sueltos igualmente...    … Full Review »
