I've only played 10 minutes and apparently it's only an hour long game but what a fun 10 minutes.

I'll start by saying anyone who likes Sin and Punishment on the Wii, will like this. Astebreed is a rails shooter with Japanese voice and English subs. It is set in beautifully coloured, cyber fantasy landscapes and it looks great. You play in a mecha suit and have guns, slash, melee,

Astebreed is a rails shooter with Japanese voice and English subs. It is set in beautifully coloured, cyber fantasy landscapes and it looks great.

You play in a mecha suit and have guns, slash, melee, special and dash attacks.. Some bullets can be shot and slashed, some just slashed and some have to be evaded.

The direction of play swaps between forwards (in a rails aspect) and horizontal and vertical scrolling.

It is a fast and fine looking bullet hell but not so hellish that it is just a mess of constant bullets but it does have some frantic moments where the screen gets filled.

It does drop frames but it didn't spoil anything for me and handheld is a no go with my crappy eyesight but I suspect it might be a bit busy with on screen content for a small screen.

I just found it to be exciting from the get go. I did stop after the intro play, to watch the tutorials and it definitely gives you a better understanding of your attacks and defence.

Ive not been so pleased at £3 in a long time and would happily pay the usual non sale £10. I do think the game would have benefited from a Sin and Punishment style of motion controls for aim and targeting and it would have been great if it was made longer but I'm not docking any points for its negatives, as the whole package is top class. Like I said, I'm only 1/6 in to a very short game but I would have paid my £3 for that.

At the end of the day it is a mecha rails shooter, so if that isn't for you then don't waste your time but if you don't have enough time to game much and want a good bit of shoot em up excitement, then this will be right up your street.

It makes the old Neo Geo shooters I sometimes play look like crap. It's way more fun. I really wish there were more games like this.

Игра очень понравилось, но если бы я знал, что она такая короткая, не купил бы ни за что! Разработчики - хитрицы. 480 рублей даже по скидке. На б.у. рынке Зельда 1500 стоит. Вот, что обидно.

Astebreed is a masterly crafted shoot-'em'up title that should be experience by fans of the genre and newcomers alike.

With its shifting planes and the constant switch between ranged and melee combat, it manages to offer just enough extra spice to help it stand out, although the lack of an English dub makes its story nigh-on impossible to follow unless you understand Japanese. Still, developer Edelweiss has made an effort to make its previously unwieldy controls fit the confines of the Switch's control interface - although you really should invest in a Pro Controller if you want to enjoy Astebreed at its best. It's not a masterpiece then, but remains worthy of investigation if you love the genre.
