Excellent port of a good game. I played some AC3 back when it first released, but I never completed the game. Frame rates have been solid for me (as solid as you can expect an AC game to be). I literally cant believe how good this game looks and runs. Yes, the graphics are remastered as well, it's obvious lighting effects are better, character models are improved, along with environments (especially in cut-scenes). Of course the game does not look as good as the PS4 or Xbox One, but still it holds it's ground. If you are looking for the best mobile version of AC, this is it. This is the console experience on a handheld, man I love this generation. I highly reccomend this game to AC fans and to handheld players, I have not played in docked mode, but Im sure it will look just fine. I plan on picking up ACIV when it releases next month!(I have yet to play it for the first time!!!) Looking forward to all the AC goodness they give us on Switch. I give it a 10 because I believe the game deserves a Meta-user score of at least 8, considering the quality of the port. I would give the game itself an 8. Expand

The game's running smooth and looks great in TV and handheld mode - no performance issues so far.
It's a great game, really nice and challenging story but after playing the Witcher 3 on the Switch i can't give 10 points. It was my first Assassin's Creed game and i don't regret the purchase.

As of the latest patch, this runs perfectly well and looks very nice, especially in handheld mode. I'm having a great time revisiting this game. Looks comparable to the original with some slight improvements. Amazing to play this huge game on a portable system. If you like the game and want a portable version, I can strongly recommend.

This is NOT a remastered game, at least graphically. However, when playing in handheld, this is just not an issue at all and does not impact gameplay. I'm not sure why they didn't port Black Flag or 2 instead, but nevertheless this is definitely worth it if you haven't played the game before.

Imagine how disheartened I was to come online and see all the poor reviews (much like every other switch port recently). Do you guys really expect it to keep up with the big consoles? You are basically screaming to developers, “don’t even try open world games on the switch”. As a developer myself, it’s obvious love went into this port, and to be received this way, I can tell you, I would NEVER publish a triple A port on this platform as the user base is never satisfied. Better off sticking to 2D platformers and casual games.

All that said, this is a great port (not without issues), and for something this engaging on the go, you won’t find better anywhere else. I suggest you enjoy it too because publishers are about done throwing games this vast at the system because they always go entirely un appreciated.

Don't buy this so called remaster. there is literally NOTHING upgraded from the last generation version. Not only that, the framerate is all over the place, falling under the 30fps and in some cases it drops even harder. That port also has audio issues, which are very common in other ports from the same studio.

I recommand you save some money and skip it. there are better ports

    Holy crap!!!
This game is something awful. Combat system is bad. Is packed with opponents, of which 2 types are invincible. The enemies sees everything. All enemies are an entitas or as if they were communicating with each other on the radio. The tasks are tedious. Lots of cutscene and walking. Full of bugs.
    Shame. Not worth a penny.

If you during a fight just stop moving it is possible that all the enemies just stand around and look at you. At least the platforming is mostly fine but not demanding at all for being such a big part of the game. Better play a Mario game for that. You won't encounter most of the glitches that I encountered if you just stick to playing the story and ignore this rather big open world. Most of the things you can do there are just boring and don't pay of at all and the story and world don't connect at all. If you came for a game that makes this better play Breath of the Wild where climbing is far better or The Witcher 3 and if you came for the pretty good story you're better of playing the original, because that version runs better and looks better. This "remastered" version is a downgrade in performance shouldn't have been made. It's not bad but mediocre. That's why it 5/10 from me. You're better of not buying this. Expand

Could have been an amazing game if it weren’t so glitchy. These make certain levels almost impossible, especially any that require you to ride a horse during time limited missions as the horse will find even small obstacles impossible to jump over and you will find yourself desynchronising purely due to the horse having a mental breakdown

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While I have played AC 3 before on PS3, this remastered version is the first I have to own for myself and really have some time with.
The prologue to the main game where we follow Haytham Kenway as he traverses the ocean to Boston, hunting down some ancient treasure, is truly the best part of the game. The characters, voice acting, initial world-building and lore of this world is excellent as well as mysterious, making the final revelation that he is, in fact, a Templar so much more shocking and well done. Although Haytham is the "bad guy", he was truly a marvellous character to follow on his quest, and deep down I wished that he was more fleshed-out in this story.
Later, we fast-forward to Connor as a child in his village. There still remains this charming and epic sense to such a vast world and seeing Charles Lee once more, now the villain he truly is, felt almost heartbreaking after watching him as the supposed protagonist.
Once Connor grows up, however, things start to deteriorate fast. Perhaps a bit subjectively, I cannot stand the adult Connor's voice actor. It sounds and feels both unnatural and cold, which might have been a reflection of his difficulty in integrating with the colonials, however it really makes the overall experience less appealing. More and more characters are introduced that help or fight Connor, but for every interesting character there are two more that I want to know nothing of (and commonly, it's the latter that they choose to develop more, to my dismay).
Technically speaking, I have honestly had less problems in this game than with AC Unity, but it does not excuse AC 3 from the many flaws that inhabit it. Horses are more often than not an annoyance, most missions or side quests (especially the latter) feel either empty, unclear or bland (or worse, all three) and the frame rate, although mostly constant, did see quite a few places where it wasn't so and even when stable could not compare to the PS4 (which is less of a criticism since I acknowledge that a Switch is not a PS4).
With all this in mind, there are still many good parts to be found. For one, having a full AC experience on a handheld is certainly a first and one that I thoroughly enjoy, with almost no noticeable changes between handheld and TV mode (for me). Using many of the unique tools and skills in the game in a variety of scenarios led to hours of fun poking around in the bushes or around corners. And even certain synchronization points delivered a beautiful scenery that made full use of the environment. I personally recommend getting it either on sale or from a friend, since it isn't worth a full price nowadays, but it remains a solid 7/10; a game that everyone should at least give a try.

Also, there was AC Liberation bundled with it. I'm not even going to try to unpack that game here, but just know that Ubisoft absolutely ruined the first AC game with a female main character. I'd rate that separately at 4/10; not unplayable but it's really not worth your time.

Okay. There is nothing too much to say about this game, it's basically a ctrl+c and ctrl+v from the Xbox 360 and PS3. I would say maybe the liberation was better, but it was still an okay game to play it and the graphics wasn't the big deal.

I think the switch could handle it better and if I knew the port wasnt very good i would have gotten it for PC despite lack of portability.

If you have been a fan of the Assassin's Creed saga for a long time, you will surely have fun playing Assassin's Creed III Remastered and seeing the improvements that have been implemented. If you are not, the beginning of this adventure will not seem enjoyable, but I would say that it is worth it.

Assassin's Creed III gave you the chance to enjoy some simple yet fun Assassin's Creed action, in a vast, Colonial-era Boston - and now you can carry all that on your backpack. It wasn't perfect, sure, but the same can be said for the rest of the earlier entries as well. The real disappointment here comes from its new, remastered iteration, which doesn't really upgrade things as much as it should - at least when it comes to the Switch, which is the worst of the available versions.

This is definitely a version to avoid unless you absolutely need portable play over everything. The cutbacks across the board are more than what I saw in Dark Souls Remastered on Switch and it has worse audio issues and glitches. The fact remains that Assassin’s Creed III itself hasn’t aged brilliantly compared to other games in the franchise like Black Flag that was on the Wii U and would’ve been a better game to play on the go with a Switch port.
