Armello’s Switch port is a good game hiding behind some user interface and minor performance issues – all things that can be patched in the future. If you don’t mind a digital board game not made for local multiplayer, Armello’s beautiful tabletop experience is worth checking out.

Armello is not trying to bring down the giants of strategy games but that doesn't mean it doesn't stand on its own feet and Armello features plenty of options, an attractive visual environment and a competitive level of difficulty. On the downside, its plot isn't very appealing and its tutorials and rules can feel excessive but the game offers enough to keep players enjoying themselves.

In terms of tactics and board games, and with the announcement of a bunch of other board game classics coming to the Switch, I can’t really think of a reason to pick up Armello in comparison. It’s alright, and a decent take on a fun way to represent an analog idea within video games, but the game itself doesn’t really have much to hold you beyond a couple of plays.

Armello is a game that has a promising concept and a top-shelf presentation but falls far short of its potential. Despite its adept systems the game often proves a slow, monotonous affair that suffers from balancing issues. Tabletop enthusiasts and strategy game fans may glean some joy from this game. However, your time would still be better spent playing a myriad of other games that offer more entertainment than Armello.

Full Review »

A mediocre board game disguised by pretty videos and art.

This game is incredibly random, there is no depth and no story, everything is determined by random dice rolls, there are no strategic choices to be made.

There are supposed to be various ways to win, but unless someone has a lot of blind luck, the game time will run out and whoever happens to have the highest Prestige value wins.

You constantly have to wait for all your opponents and NPCs to take their turns and that takes a very long time.

The supposed RPG elements are non-existent.

The videos and artwork are very pretty but they don't make a good board game alone.
