Aragami - Shadow Edition brings the sombre-themed third person stealth action game to the Nintendo Switch in an effort that is more than likely to appeal to fans of this style of gameplay. Its dark-tinted art style with simple gameplay mechanics and well-written plot will provide more than enough reasons for players to wrap their hands and heads around this compelling game.

Aragami is a fun, challenging stealth-action title with plenty to offer in terms of singleplayer and multiplayer. Although its performance on Nintendo Switch isn’t the greatest, the game has plenty of replay value, and has a stunning design and soundtrack.

Aragami is a perfectly adequate stealth game. The gameplay loop is short, as it often is in stealth titles, but that loop generally works well. Enemies exhibit nothing in the way of complex behavior, but that doesn’t make pushing through a group of them, silently killing as you go, any less satisfying. Aragami is a stealth game out of time that could have been quite beloved in 2006. Today, however, it will have to settle for pretty all right.

Taken as a whole, Aragami: Shadow Edition does the sneak ‘n’ stab genre well enough to tickle the taste buds of its fans. Others not quite as invested will probably only get a moderate amount of enjoyment with little satisfaction in gameplay outside of some nice ideas and the relief of accomplishment. The price point, even with the 10 percent discount offered for early adopters, isn’t as attractive as it could be. This is, after all, evidently a low budget project and a three-year-old game at that.

Those looking for the quintessential stealth experience, will not find it in Aragami: Shadow Edition. That being said, this is definitely an enjoyable, and unique take on the genre, albeit, one that's a bit light on content and depth.

It takes a while to get going and it has its fair share of annoying quirks, but as it progresses Aragami becomes a solid stealth game with a compelling story. The addition of extra DLC chapters gives the game a welcome boost in longevity, and though its temperamental mechanics prevent it becoming an unarguable gem, its stylish look and the range of abilities you acquire by the end mean fans of stealth games (and fans of stealth only) will still have a fun time with it. Eventually.

Despite feeling limited by development resources with mediocre A.I for enemies and limited movements, Aragami has a certain rhythm to its gameplay and it can be quite addictive sometimes. I don't think stealth games fans will be disappointed. The storytelling is also good with slow and satisfying world/characters building. This version has small technical issues though.

During my play, I encountered a few dips in frame rate here and there. Aside from that, the game runs pretty well on the Switch, both docked and in a hand-held mode. The game also has extremely rough edges with PS1-era AI and uninspired level designs, which casual players will not easily forgive. When all is said and done, Aragami is a serviceable stealth game overall. Stealth/puzzle combo has its own merit and will appeal to hardcore stealth game fans for sure.

A thoroughly enjoyable stealth game. As you move through the levels, you need to plan where you move and how you dispatch your enemies.

On a side note. I find it amusing when people down vote a game for being what it is. "I didn't enjoy this stealth game because there was too much stealth". Or "don't buy this game if you're looking for a completely different kind of game"

TLDR: DO NOT BUY IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR ACTION RPG, RPG or really any combat action.

This game looks ok on my switch OLED but I’ve had indie games 1/10th of the price and looked and played better (more in-depth mechanics & better implemented art direction similar to this game).

The gameplay is very boring in that there’s no dynamic combat as it’s pure stealth-based with attack = sneaking up to enemies press a button. This pretty much sums up the game.
