The Amnesia games are some of the best horror titles to ever be released, but things have moved on and its dated graphics, lack of polish and some performance issues hinder the Nintendo Switch release. Ultimately, however, if you are a fan of horror games, the package is worth it alone just to play The Dark Descent, one of the most influential games of the past ten years. Just be aware that, as the darkness in these games, time has not been its friend.

Amnesia is a horror classic that has lost a little of its bite over the years, but can still provide some genuine scares. Performance issues do bring this version down, but the games are still worth experiencing for new players.

Amnesia Collection on Switch may lack the slick polish and fidelity of the PlayStation 4, but at the very least, The Dark Descent survived mostly intact, and is still an excellent version of the scariest game ever made. It is too bad that the other entries in the collection are not quite up to the Frictional Games' standard of quality, but even in their own merits they are decent compared to most other first-person horror titles on Switch. A Machine For Pigs, being the least restraint and absurd, makes it hard to take it seriously, but does have some qualities that make it an amusing guilty pleasure. At the very least it never bores.

Despite being a set that includes three entries in the same series, the Amnesia: Collection actually offers three very distinct experiences. The Dark Descent is a milestone for the genre that belies its own mechanical issues by offering some good, old-fashioned scares. Justine is a brief but experimental foray into gruesome puzzle-solving that’s well worth the detour, and A Machine for Pigs takes a more stripped-down approach to the original’s systems, but introduces a much more immersive story as a result. It’s a proper little time capsule that’s perfect for those who’ve already exhausted their fear glands with Outlast and Layers of Fear and want another means to chill their blood in the run-up to Halloween.

Amnesia: Collection is a faithful port of the classic horror franchise. Despite the aged graphics, the gameplay and scares hold up incredibly well, even in handheld mode. While I don’t ever expect to be playing it this way (in order to prevent a situation like that in the trailer), having the ability to more easily take Amnesia on the go is always a good thing in my book. If you’ve never experienced Amnesia before, there’s never been a better time to dive into it than now!

Amnesia: Collection consists of three of the most remarkable horror games that the industry has seen. While each game in this collection should be seen on its own, this is a very welcome addition to the Nintendo Switch catalogue and even if the first game has some performance issues, fans of horror adventures and anyone looking for a seriously chilling experience will have an unforgettable time with Amnesia: Collection.

It’s a shame it isn’t a full remake, but The Dark Descent remains one of the most frightening and atmospheric video games ever made.

Don't buy, Don't believe the lies, go watch walk through and notice the frame drops it is all a trap.
When I played for 10 minutes, I got softlocked 2 times due to a glitch which caused my guy to not be able to pick up things or push doors, locking me in rooms untill a restart.

But the actually gameplay is sad. Puzzles that are either really easy or involve searching around forever, or running away from things. That's it. Full Review »

The three games (TDD, Justine, AMFP) are amazing but it's not incredible on Switch. During a Dark Descent run, the game froze and the audio looped for ten seconds during a script. There is also some framerate issues. In Machine for Pigs, there's a lot of tiny visual glitches too. Also, when you press X (aka your journal) there is an ugly buggy fade-out effect.
That being said the games are incredible in my opinion, but if you can play them somewhere else, go for it.
