Yggdra Union had the potential to be a really compelling tactical game, but due to a lazy storyline, a cumbersome UI, and a brand of gameplay that excludes the player 50% of the time, it couldn't help but fall short.
-
Overall, if you missed this on the GBA and like a challenge in your RPGs, then Yggdra Union will be right up your alley.
-
Yggdra Union is by no means the definitive tactical RPG experience, nor is it a perfect game. However, for all of my qualms, I found myself continually going back for moreāand not just because I had to in order to review the game, but because I felt myself drawn to the strategy and enjoyed the satisfaction of victory.

If you're not really focusing on what's going on during battle, you may find your forces quickly dispatched. Conversely, if you play to your strengths, you may find yourself giggling with glee as you lay waste to your adversaries.

Playstation: The Official Magazine (US)The steep learning curve may put off newcomers, but for those willing to commit to its complexities, Yggdra Union offers a truly refreshing strategy experience. [Dec 2008, p.92]
-
Yggdra Union is more fun to say than it is to play.
-
You can take a game of tic-tac-toe and throw a whole bunch of spicy house rules on it, but let's face it: You're drawing friggin' circles and Xs. Yggdra is a competent example of the tactics genre, but there are others (Fire Emblem, for one) that do everything Yggdra does more simply and are just a lot more fun.
