  1. Rainbow Six Vegas is a fine portable shooter.
  2. It’s definitely worth a rental at the moment until it drops in price, where it’s definitely a better buy at $20 or $30. That’s an unfortunate circumstance for what is an enjoyable game that goes beyond being just a port by bringing a new story and campaign to the table.

Sadly it's a little too short with a lack of replay value, but you'd be hard pushed to find a title with better production values on the PSP. [Issue#156, p.85]

Excellent tactical shooter hampered by the slightly sluggish controls. [Sept 2007, p.84]
  5. I totally enjoyed the new characters, new parallel storyline, new locations, and exciting gameplay. Sure it was too easy at times, but there were also some areas where things got downright nasty, but in the end, Vegas on the PSP is a great addition to the Rainbow franchise.
  6. A small step in the right direction. With a short campaign mode and a number of features cut from the gameplay, this does feel like a stripped down version of the amazing console version.
  7. The PSP version of Rainbow Six Vegas manages to condense some of the action that made the Xbox 360 version of the game so cool, but it's also very short.

Rainbow Six Vegas is a short but entertaining first-person shooter that will attract fans of the Tom Clancy games, but not much beyond that.
  9. Taking into account the shortcomings of the platform when dealing with this type of gameplay, RS:V pulls it off fairly well. It’s still not great, but you can have fun with it for a while if you’re not frustrated easily. Don’t, however, expect anything near the caliber of the experience that you may have already had with the far superior 360 version of the game.

It has a number of gameplay issues, like the clunky cover system, the sections where you're forced to clear room after room with only a sniper rifle and more. Its online works reasonably well, but it simply isn't fun.
  11. In the graveyard of first-person shooters for the PSP, Rainbow Six Vegas is just one more for the crap-heap.

Over complicated and visually lacklustre - this is a disappointing outing for Rainbow Six. Stick with "Medal of Honor Heroes." [Jan 2007, p.76]

A well-implemented control system and great sense of tension make this a joy to play. [Jan 2007, p.50]
  14. A bland, ugly and dreary game - which goes against everything you're used to after playing the series on PS2. There's a certain compulsive quality to sniping but after a couple of levels, you'll develop a strange sense of deja vu and wish you were playing a better shooter.
  15. Goes all-in with its action-packed shooter gameplay, but a short campaign, limited multiplayer support, and a stack of shortcomings call its bluff.
  16. Feels like a half-baked approach at porting a stellar console title. While giving you a slightly changed story and new characters to work with is a nice approach, the actual gameplay leaves a lot to be desired.
  17. There's nothing about the PSP Rainbow Six Vegas that doesn't feel like a cheap cash in, in hopes that some fan of the console games might mistake this for something of the same quality.

What you are getting is a grave magnitude of repeating hallways, a dull story with often dull witted opponents, mucked up controls, and a game missing many key abilities from the 360 or PS3 editions.
  19. Movement is on the analogue nub, camera controls on the face buttons. It's a system that has worked okay for other PSP shooters, but there's a stiffness here that makes it feel more like Super Treacle Squad than a simulation of impeccably-trained Special Ops.

This plays more like a strange hybrid of the older titles and Vegas. Control-wise, it’s pretty typical for the PSP: the analog stick moves the player, the face buttons are used to look, the left trigger locks on to your opponent (the face buttons can be used to change the position of the lock, such as aiming at the head or chest), right trigger fires and D-Pad handles auxiliary functions such as interacting with the environment or switching/reloading weapons. Gameplay-wise, it’s a relatively slow game. Most of it is spend indoors: it feels a bit like the older Rainbow Sixes, but less refined. It’s difficult, but not unplayably so; the main issue is the AI, which is not smart. Enemies will often stand still and shoot; they either will or won’t notice the player. It really does harm the game, because they aren’t fun to fight. The story feels like an afterthought; honestly it’s pretty forgettable. In the end, it’s a functional FPS for the PSP; it’s pretty mediocre, and I’d personally recommend Coded Arms or Medal of Honor: Heroes over it. It’s fine for the system, but there are far better choices. Full Review »

THis game is so UNFAIR you only get 5 Magzines for your primary weapon and some of these missions are very long you cannot refresh yourTHis game is so UNFAIR you only get 5 Magzines for your primary weapon and some of these missions are very long you cannot refresh your ammo...you can't pickup ammo/Grenades from dead enemies,, Thats UNACCEPTABLE. There are NO Health packs EVER! at any Point!!! The Checkpoint system is a **** joke. so If you're injured and low on ammo or have no Ammo you are screwed. If you still own a PSP dont waste time on this. Full Review »
