  1. If you are looking for a handheld multiplayer experience, and are willing to tolerate some control aggravations, you may want to take a gander at Renegade Squadron. But if your desire lies anywhere outside of this, these are not the droids you are looking for. Move along.

If you don't mind a somewhat simplistic third person shooter and are a Star Wars fan you could do much worse than Renegade Squadron.

It's the foot-based missions that people play this game for. And to be more specific, it's the multiplayer foot-based missions that are enjoyable.
  4. Great action and excellent multiplayer modes make Renegade Squadron an enjoyable experience, even if the short single-player mode and substandard visuals keep it from reaching its full potential.
  5. Renegade Squadron looks great and has some fantastic online multiplayer modes, but it unfortunately suffers from a sluggish control system. Still worth a bash if you're a fan though.

But while multiplayer rocks, the appeal of the campaign and character customization lasts about as long as Darth Maul's screen time. [Nov 2007, p.122]

OK, the individual missions may not all be epic, but the side story of this renegade squadron (whose tale weaves in and out of the events from the original movies) is one worth seeing through. (Hey, you can be done by lunchtime.)
  8. It's deeply frustrating. There are some great ideas in here, the presentation is top-notch and the options are plentiful, but none of these good intentions add up to a game of any real depth or longevity.
  9. This will be good fun for Star Wars fanatics who want to see how Renegade Squadron fits in with the overall Star Wars story, and the game's best feature - online multiplayer - should keep most entertained for a good few hours. But this isn't an essential PSP purchase.
  10. Added abilities for the multiplayer add some needed depth.

The biggest complaint, as ever, is the controls: until the PSP grows a second analogue stick. shooters are going to feel clunky. [Dec 2007, p.112]
  12. For fans of the first two Battlefront games there is plenty here to enjoy. The single player is a limited experience which will disappoint most, but for those with access to the online features then Renegade Squadron is well worth the asking price.

Star Wars: Battlefront Renegade Squadron is one third an excellent game, one third a terrible game and one third a passable game… shaky and not stirring!

Disappointing effort; scrapes the barrel more than it feels the Force. [Christmas 2007, p.123]
  15. The single-player campaign is on the short side and the AI definitely isn’t the most tricked-out droid in the sandcrawler, but the medal-unlock challenges and multiplayer definitely give this shooter some space-legs.

There's still only about six hours of solo play here - hardly a good return on your 35 quid outlay. [Dec 2007, p.84]

Despite fixing the major problem of its portable predecessor, Renegade Squadron feels like a cheap cash in with ugly visuals and simplistic gameplay.

While not on par with the PS2 outings, the game offers an enjoyable on the go experience. The space battles are an improvement from the ones in Battlefront 2 on PSP. The game abandons the class system present in the previous titles. Instead, you can customise your character 's appearance and weapon load out. Full Review »

When I first got the game I thought it would suck. I was wrong.

It is awesome! I probably have 100s of hours on it by now. I've played every map every way and am still finding places to hide! The only downside to it is-

    1. Not challenging enough AI

    2. No people on multiplayer

    3. No DLC or extra maps

    Other than that 8/10!!!

There is a single player campaign which can be bland at times but is still interesting, online multiplayer and galactic conquest. The single player missions involve fighting with an army against another army for control of capture points around a Star Wars map. The more you hold the faster your enemies reinforcement tickets count down, first team to run out of them loses. This is a great mix of action and strategy. You can customize the loadouts of your player depending on your mood and needs. want to be annoying? use a jetpack to flit around the map. Need to bring down a walker? make your primary weapon a rocket launcher. Or you can settle for a regular blaster rifle but instead gain more powerful shields or the ability to capture control points faster. This battlefront gives players the highest level of customization of any Star Wars Battlefront ever. The space battles also have their charms, you can bring down enemy ships by hitting thier many weak points with torpedoes or fly into thier hangar and bring them down from within. The online was fun and adds depth and replayability to the game. The conquest mode is like a game of space Risk where you have to actually play out a single player battle first in space then on the ground to capture an area. This game did have some drawbacks. The controls are not natural at first but you get used to them and the story is lame and does not add much to the Star Wars canon, This game is in my opinion one of the fullest packages ever crammed into a UMD and will provide hours of entertainment.
