  1. It’s one of the rare times where you should purchase both the console versions and the PSP version since both offer different yet extremely compelling racing.
  2. We're definitely keen on the PSP version, serving up some solid racing fun that'll get your heart pumping and your fingers moving. Just be sure to get by with a little help from your friends.
  3. Own the City is a very different game from the console versions of Need for Speed Carbon, but it's still an exciting racer in its own right.
  4. Sure it still is a fast and furious racing game with a lot to offer but this is stuff we’ve seen before.

A great driving game if you're new to the Need for Speed series, otherwise it's a bit same old, same old. [Christmas 2006, p.95]

Own the City simply feels like more of the same. Sure, there's an open city and wingmen that'll take out your opponents during a race, but neither of these are huge, game-changing additions.
  7. 70
The storyline and wingman idea both add a lot to things, but eventually, the racing becomes too repetitive.
  8. Technically solid – if increasingly familiar – racing action but set within a dynamic that often feels unnecessarily controlled.
  9. 70
Own the City still has framerate issues and a gameplay engine that hasn't really changed, but it's still a fun game.

The classy presentation and slick action capture the spirit of the PS2 game, but this is nothing more than a competent racer. [Christmas 2006, p.100]

Own the City still isn't the best racer on the PSP -- Burnout and Wipeout are both better -- but it's a major step in the right direction for a series that has been stuck in a major rut.
  12. Official U.S. Playstation Magazine

This is the most fun game in the PSP series purely from a control and competition standpoint, and it's overall a step in the right direction for a series that has been stuck in a major rut. [Jan. 2007, p.92]

Own the City has a "if it's not broken, don't fix it" feel. [Jan. 2007, p.86]
  14. The story might be terrible, but somehow it is still better than nothing and the wingman system does work, even if it is a bit odd.

Need For Speed Carbon: Own the City looked and played surprisingly well for a PSP game.

But if you are a person that isn't a racing fan, this game may be for you. Full Review »
