  1. It has the right mix of components to make a great fighting game, and it's a fantastic addition to the Naruto canonical plot. The action is fast-paced, the control system is intuitive, and the presentation is engrossing.
  2. An incredibly slick fighting system and top class presentation make this a must for anyone seeking an alternative to the usual one-on-one fighters.
  3. Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Heroes 2: The Phantom Fortress is a really good game. If this is your first time with the series, I would definitely recommend picking it up. If you own the first one you might be slightly disappointed with the improvements but there’s enough here to keep anyone busy for quite a while.
  4. Although Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Heroes 2: The Phantom Fortress is a really fun title to play, those who played the first Ultimate Ninja Heroes might feel the gameplay is starting to get a little stale, as this title doesn't really expand upon the gameplay in the same way as its console cousins have, and veteran players will probably be a little let down by how similar this title feels to its predecessor.
  5. If you're looking for a serious fighting game, check out Guilty Gear Judgment, Street Figher Alpha and the upcoming SNK titles. But if you just want some fun, this is worth trying out.
  6. A slight improvement over the first Naruto PSP offering, The Phantom Fortress still plays the same while not really pushing the fighting series to exciting new heights.

Naruto Ultimate Ninja Heroes 2: The Phantom Fortress is a prime of example of if it isn't broken, don't fix it.

The Mugenjo Mode does give you a lot of extra gameplay, but all the mechanics in place, along with the majority of the environments, music and other game elements, are identical to the original.
  9. There's not a ton of difference between this and the first Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Heroes, but the enhancements that are here make this a notably better game than the first. We recommend it, but it's a real shame that so much of this will be a bit too familiar to most players.
  10. If you've never played the series on the PSP, by all means, pick this up, but otherwise it might be best to just give it a rental, as you likely will burn through all the game has to offer in about a weekend or so.
  11. A great diversion for everyday games – but the lengthy storyline and unlockables are ultimately only going to appeal to die-hard fans of the series.

Play Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Heroes 2 -- The Phantom Fortress for its entertaining battles, not for the tiring story. But if you do play for the story, remember this awesome tip: Change the voice option from English to Japanese so you won't have to hear Naruto scream his ineffable catchphrase. Believe it!
  13. Overall, The Phantom Fortress is a surprisingly captivating portable game, that does well to live up to its popular name.

As a fighting game, Phantom Fortress is decent. [Aug 2008, p.83]
  15. I'm not sure that this release really deserves the price sticker attached to it because it's mainly just an upgrade but it's still a decent experience just the same.
  16. Naruto: Ulitmate Heroes 2: The Phantom Fortress does offer up plenty of fun, albeit shallow, ninja fighting, just not enough new content to warrant a purchase.

Phantom Fortress has got smoe serious problems with minigames. [Issue#169, p.86]
  18. The Phantom Fortress is full of lame minigames, occasional fights, and tons of repetition. Enter at your own risk.
  19. Naruto has given us some fairly competent games; this isn't one of those.

The simple fighting engine allows for some easy to get into action that will satisfy Naruto fans' desire to see their favorite characters pulling off their signature moves. If you want anything deeper than that, however, you're out of luck.

This is is one of the best PSP games I ever owned. It is one of my favorite fighting games of all time too. The 2d graphics aren't the best, but they still hold up, and the animations are great. There is so much content here, this could've been a console release. I love the fact that it's 2d not 3d.. Even after playing Shippuden 4, I had to play this.
This game got average reviews because it did a lot of things similar to the first one, but as someone who never played the first one, I enjoyed every second of this game.

This must be my favourite Naruto game for the PSP. I don't know if I like it this much because I am a fan of the anime, but I can't resist. IThis must be my favourite Naruto game for the PSP. I don't know if I like it this much because I am a fan of the anime, but I can't resist. I bet half of the critics who reviewed this game simply compared it to Final Fantasy or something when they shouldn't have. Out of all the Naruto PSP games I've played, this one has all of the moves used by characters in the original Naruto and they are truly usable. One more thing: this is not an action RPG game. What if this is one of those adventure games where you actually don't fight all the time? Well it is. Its best feature is Heroes Mode which has a special system and also takes some strategy. The game is simple and good. Full Review »
