LocoRoco Midnight Carnival got a few improvements compared to the last part. But is isn’t really a new game but more an expansion. The game is still pretty cool and a well start for new players. Veterans have seen all this before except the few improvements. Those aren’t really shocking after all.
  2. While maintaining the sugary sweet style of its inventive forerunners, LocoRoco Midnight Carnival braves new gameplay that has sticky points preventing it from being as grand.

    A quirky platformer. [Christmas 2009, p.116]
  4. Bouncing through the levels of LocoRoco Midnight Carnival is quite fun.

LocoRoco boings off in a disappointing new direction but it's still unique and rewarding. [Christmas 2009, p.78]
  6. Midnight Carnival is a game that tries to give a fresh new gameplay to the Locoroco franchise, but ultimately fails due to the poor controls and the frustrating difficulty.
  7. New gameplay mechanics and multiplayer support are welcome additions to the series, but they come at the cost of accessibility.
  8. Midnight Carnival brings few newsworthy editions to the series. It's still a great game, with excellent music and a rather challenging campaign. But it's still the same game you've been playing for some time now, and to be honest, it's getting a little old.
  9. It does a lot of things right such as the presentation, its charming music and sound effects and cozy level design. The downside is that the developers have made the platform elements in the game more challenging which the control method can’t handle. A frustrating but charming game.

Newbies should check the originals, whilst veterans will find this frustrating. [Jan 2010, p.82]
  11. LocoRoco: Midnight Carnival will alienate all but the most devout LocoRoco fanatics. Precision platforming and gimped controls just don't go well together. If you've got the patience for relentless trial and error, then have at it. Otherwise, stick to LocoRoco 2--you'll retain your sanity and your PSP will remain in working order.

LocoRoco Midnight Carnival was great, but compared to the previous installment, LocoRoco 2, it seemed a bit too short and lacking. The lengthLocoRoco Midnight Carnival was great, but compared to the previous installment, LocoRoco 2, it seemed a bit too short and lacking. The length of the game was somewhat short, and there were less mini-games.

But there are plenty that make up for that.
    - Challenging
    - Hats and gear!
    - New music/visuals
    - The new Boing! mechanism is amazing!
    - Not to mention the dreaded BuiBui Fort 3 DLC... Anyone who has played LocoRoco 2 will get that.
