It's been said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but this is practically a slap in the face of a title that works really well.
-
Hardcore GamerWhat could have been a good game inspired by the great "Warioware" series instead is nothing more than a poor imitation. [Nov 2007, p.62]

Wherever the line is between very simple and very simple but addictive, Hot Pixels doesn't cross it in most cases.
-
Despite a few nice features and a cool graphical style (pixel art is pretty awesome), the lame microgames outweigh the good ones by a hefty margin.
-
Edge MagazineIf zSlide wants to directly compete with WarioWare’s creativity, not toying with the PSP’s optional camera or microphone has been a missed opportunity. [July 2007, p.94]

Hot Pixel is the most blatantly derivative product we've seen for years, but to make matters worse, it fails to offer up any sort of compelling gameplay or long term value.
-
BoomtownIt’s hard for me to think of anyone who would find Hot Pixel entertaining, even at its reduced RRP of £19.99. It would be too fast and frantic for young kids, too ridiculously camp at being street for young teenagers and too brain-numbingly dull for anybody with an IQ over 50 to play it for more than half an hour.
-
When it comes down to it, there’s essentially nothing here to recommend this over any other game, for example, something like WarioWare. That game has character, is constantly funny and contains a great selection of fun minigames. Hot Pixel fails to deliver on all counts.

Official Playstation 2 Magazine UKQuirky games like this work only when there's a huge amount of truly inspired imagination behind them. Here, there isn't. [July 2007, p.97]

Aug 23, 2023Interesting concept, poorly executed. I remember it because of its distinctive visual style. And thats all. Mediocre.
