This updated, portable version of 2006's open-ended Wild West action adventure introduces a few keen changes and features to make up for a few bits that were lost in translation.
-
A very well put together port of the console version. The story is the main thing that takes the cake here; the extra multiplayer modes are nice but are mostly forgettable.
-
Aside from an awkward control system, it’s hard not to appreciate the effort that went into making GUN Showdown more than just a straight port.
-
Gun Showdown could have been a disastrous port of a so-so action game, but it ends up being a surprisingly solid game full of fun missions, crazy firefights and some cool extra goodies.
-
Despite a lot of roaming and only moderately paced action, GUN Showdown's adventure proves unique enough to be entertaining, and the lightning-quick pace of the plot will keep you running from place to place before you have much of a chance to get bored.
-
If you're prepared to come to terms with the sizeable control issues and accept the occasional technical gremlin, there's gold to be found in them there pixels.
-
Those new to the franchise will find a truly superb game in GUN, but for anyone coming back for a second helping, chances are you will be disappointed.
-
PSM MagazineThis port holds up surprisingly well. [Jan 2007, p.88]
-
Pure Magazine UKSome more variation and a fuller landscape would have made it perfect. [Jan 2007, p.64]
-
This version fails to even live up to the console counterpart, as the controls suffer far too much on the PSP itself.
-
PSM3 Magazine UKA port of much style, but little substance. [Feb 2007, p.78]
-
There's no denying that GUN Showdown is an entertaining game, but you'll have to overcome the incredibly awkward controls in order to get any enjoyment from it.
-
The gun fighting and horse riding action is fun on the go, but the controls take a lot of time to get used to, and the overall game is still rather short.
-
Official Playstation 2 Magazine UKThe control system is half-cocked making it seem half the experience of the PS2 game. [Christmas 2006, p.86]
-
The controls are a bit fuggly, but all in all, it’s the same game that was released for the major consoles, so if you’re really dying to play this, this is a version to consider.
-
Games Master UKA once enjoyable wilid west shooter gone bad on the PSP. [Jan 2007, p.69]
-
It's GUN on a handheld platform, but it doesn't work quite as well as it does on consoles.
-
Gun Showdown just goes to show that developers need more than just more content to bring console games to the PSP.
