Gradius is one of those titles that (for better or worse) has just as much appeal today as it did when it first came out. In fact, it’s even harder to find this kind of action today when 2D games are considered inferior.
-
In fact, for serious fans, I’d say the greatest credit to this title is that I couldn’t discern any flaw or difference between it and the Gradius arcade versions.
-
All in all, Gradius Collection is a set of "fan's games," in that only someone who really loves the hyperactive side-scrolling action of the original can love this package.
-
Most likely, only fans of the series that have a PSP will be picking this one up.
-
PSM MagazineDiehards will dig the mid-level save feature, and the choice to display these arcade classics in their original aspect ratio(or stretched full-screen)but casual gamers will be eaten alive by this take-no-prisoners series. [July 2006, p.86]
-
Almost everything about this anthology speaks of class, care, and quality, and the ability to play several of the series' "missing" chapters should be more than enough for any American Gradius fan to take the plunge.
-
Just be warned: this game's for the fans, not necessarily someone looking for a quick bus-ride excursion. Gradius has never been easy, and these five selections are no different.
-
The Gradius Collection will mainly appeal to fans who want to relive those old school memories; I can't see many new gamers being hooked on Gradius, even though it's a fun experience.
-
Official Playstation 2 Magazine UKTheir simplicity is charming and their gameplay addictive. Thank heavens some things don't change. [Oct 2006, p.97]
-
So yes, it's yet another old-school shooter for PSP then, but if you prefer a sterner challenge to what's currently on offer, Gradius Collection could well be just the job.
-
Official U.S. Playstation MagazineGradius Collection should be rated M--not because it's violent.....or because it has nudity. Really, the reason it should have that rating stems from the amount of profanity that will spew from your mouth and the possible injuries incurred from slamming your PSP into a brick wall. [June 2006, p.101]
-
Games Master UKIf you love slow, old-fashioned gameplay, you'll be in heaven here. [Oct 2006, p.84]
