Skilled players can probably blow through Story mode in a day or so, but the multiplayer modes make up for the brevity of that part of the game.
  2. Fans of the book (or movie) will certainly enjoy this fresh perspective of playing as Saphira with support from Eragon, especially since the other game variations do just the opposite.
  3. The ability to control a dragon so freely, and with so much power, has not been had from a previous handheld release.

Beautiful to look at but just a bit too slick and fast-paced for its won good. [Jan 2007, p.69]
  5. Despite the high production values, the gameplay and missions done with the oversized Zippo are disappointing. The game doesn’t take a large amount of time to finish and lacks replay value.
  6. Eragon will appeal more to those with dreams of dragon riding than those simply looking for a good action game.
  7. Eragon is an experience better read than played, but the PSP version has enough online/WiFi modes to almost be worth owning!

Much of the experience is hampered by shoddy control, and the mission objectives could use more variety. The multiplayer aspect provides plenty of entertainment, though.
  9. Eragon has some exciting moments, but they are overshadowed by frustrating controls and tedious level designs.

If at all possible, give the multiplayer a shot; it's the game's best feature. There's no doubt that some gamers are going to take to this title like a dragon to the air, but for others, the fun may not even get off the ground.
  11. No matter how you slice it, rampant dragon destruction is more fun than running around smacking bad guys with a dagger.
  12. For a game apparently seeking a younger audience, it can be far too difficult at times, and most children will probably even realize just how shallow the game's single-player experience is after 30 minutes.
  13. I can't decide who's at fault here. Is it Sony for including 3D power and no way to control the camera? Or is it the fault of these game developers that insist on developing 3D games that obviously need camera control?

Less fiery dragon, more a damp squid. [Jan 2007, p.90]

The neat thing about Eragon on the PSP is that it isn't a just a port of the PS2 game; but after playing both, we actually wish it were. [Feb. 2007, p.85]
