    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A poor mix of mech and martial arts with the cherry on top being a pretentious and long meandering story. It starts off decent and nosedives extremely hard later on, with the second disk being almost exclusively text about God being a computer system that is cluttered with all kinds of pseudo-intellectual themes. What started as a decent game with martial arts turn-based combat and some mech parts (wasn't a fan of mechs ever, thought that the martial arts style would do it for me here though going into it) turned into this pseudo-philosophical mess that moves at a snails pace that resembles an otaku's mashup of 'Neon Genesis Evangelion' and 'War and Peace' than an RPG game with any sort of appeal or charm to it. It gets a 3 because the first few hours I had fun with Xenogears and did enjoy playing it, but like noted above, it quickly takes a turn to pseudo-intellectualism and loses any sense of pacing and plot progression it may have had in the first 25% of the game.… Expand

    Fighting in a gear is fun but thats all what is special in xenogears. The plot my be good but it is so unbelievable bad paced. The first CD is slow like anything else and the second CD is just skipping from one scene to another, while the main character sits on the chair and tells you what happened and what the group did and where they did go.     Most overrated RPG of all time. Story is boring, battle system is one of the worst Ive seen, and the characters are not interesting. I dont get all the hype surrounding this game.
