It's a great representation of how to handle a superhero in video game form, and surpasses other lame efforts like "Superman N64" and "Batman Forever" (remember that crap?).
-
Official U.S. Playstation MagazineThe best superhero game ever, featuring America's favorite webhead. [Mar 2002, p.34]
-
There are so many extras, such as collecting new suits, new special powers, and classic comic book covers, that you will play this game for a long time.
-
AntagonistThis Spider-Man lives up to everything you wanted it to -- it's Spectacular! It's Amazing! It's Sensational! Most importantly, it's not a clone of all the other Spider-Man games!
-
Da GameboyzThe graphics are perfect and the sound, especially the voice acting, is the best I've heard in a long time.
-
Easily the most impressive PlayStation game I've played this year and is one that should be owned by everyone.
-
CheckOutAdd to the mix that there are plenty of secrets to uncover, including cover art, character viewers, training sessions and even costume changes and you have a one loaded game worthy of high praise.
-
The training missions are pretty robust, and there are lots of costumes to uncover, but in the end, while I loved "Spider-Man," it was a little too simplistic, a little too short, and the control a bit too wacked for my taste.
-
Spank! At last a decent comic-book conversion that is extremely playable and will even appeal to those who aren't fans of the comic.
-
Be warned, some parts will frustrate you to the point of anger, but there's no shame in infinite continues.
-
Daily RadarWith great gameplay comes a great game.
-
They've created the first game featuring a comic book hero that doesn't disappoint.
-
Whether it's eluding the NYPD's helicopter force's raining of missiles down at you or evading the powerful grasp of Venom, the action is relentless.
-
Combining platform, fighting and some limited shooter elements, Spider-Man effectively interweaves the intense gameplay with a story befitting of the webslinger's comic-based heritage.
-
Most importantly, it is fun. Something that most games do not have going for them now a days.
-
CNET GamecenterEven with its twitchy control and funky camera angles, it's a top-notch action/adventure worthy of the moniker. Excelsior!
-
Most frustrating, though, is when the camera inverts your perspective after the execution of a zip line -- while it may seem as if nothing's amiss (as the subtle change in perspective will surely evade your notice), the controls will indeed be reversed, causing "up" to mean "down," and vice versa.
-
Game FanUnfortunately, while nice visuals, a humorous character, innovative play mechanics and good replay value are promising, the sluggish control and annoying camera problems will certainly frustrate most "True Believers."
-
But taken purely as a game, this one could use some radiation treatment.
