I've played RE2 back in 2000 and I couldn't finish it because it was a borrowed game, now that I've revisited without the nostalgia glasses I can safely say that this game is as classic as it comes, sure the control scheme is very clumsy and at times the dramatic camera angles don't help it at all but, when you get the hang of it, it just makes sense. The environment and the enemies have this amazing horror atmosphere and also I really liked every character. Because of the localization or the acting or even that the story is not that good, at times, it feels a little cliche but it's OK, speaking of characters my least favorite must be Leon, is kinda boring but in the other hand, Ada and Claire are pretty cool. Also if you're into JoJo's Bizarre Adventure expect to encounter a lot of references.

Overall is an amazing experience, like having a puzzle that by the end it just builds itself naturally. The rhythm of the game is also incredible I believe I played around 6 hours per character and I wanted more, the way that the 2 stories interact feels way ahead of its time (I believe they wanted to do a similar thing with RE 6). If you're looking for a thrilling experience and you haven't played it yet, please check it out.

One of, if not the most iconics entry in the Resident Evil series, this game's two campaigns add fresh new takes on the story and keep the gameplay fresh.

Capcom made a great remake. It is the perfect game in this new generation for survival horror lovers. Maybe not really deep from a narrative point of view, but it is soo fun and beautiful.

Resident Evil 2 expands on the original in all the right ways. The game has a lot more replay value than the first game does. There are four completely unique playthroughs that will take you around 15 or so hours to complete. I think the level design is actually better in this one than the first game. It's really a lot of fun to play.

One of the most memorable games in history is a complete experience of fear and survival, the gameplay mechanics are excellent, the whole enemy type is cool with a unique design, I'm not saying it's not a masterpiece, but the first version was more memorable.

An excellent game. One of the most innovative and unique games ever made. The A and B scenarios provide excellent replay ability. The cutscenes however have not aged well. Still this game is a masterpiece of horror.

The zombie threat reaches the streets of Racoon City. I personally prefer the claustrophobic single setting of the mansion in the first game, but the graphics, dialogue and voice acting are much improved. Another spooky and absorbing adventure.

I'd bought Resident Evil 2 not long ago after it was released on the PlayStation 1 console, and on my first time playing, there was a street with some zombies when the game started, at that time I still never thought it was that great, because I still didn't know the actual game's concept yet. But after a while (Kendo shop), I'd started to realize that this game has potential and unlike the other similar games, it felt more immersed like a real survivor horror rather than some simplistic game. It kinda feels like you were inside the survivor horror which being trapped inside a town due to car-wracked problems while attempting to drive out of the town, and have to survive and get out alive from the nightmarish town on foot without a vehicle, while also discovering the truth and unfolding some mysteries behind the places along the way which is also a fairly interesting and engaging experience. The game was especially good to play at night (especially at midnight) and without the light on, because this game has a really good atmosphere and fine game pace, especially on the first playthrough, and it fits the survivor horror game fairly well. RE2 was good also because it was balanced, which it didn't simply concentrate on certain elements like the shooting aspect or action aspect and rely too much on it, or just concentrate on the story or something that makes it unbalance, instead it was concentrating on all/more aspects which makes it more balanced as a whole. RE2 also felt somewhat like a movie at the same time due to the static camera angle, which the camera view could help make the game to feel somewhat like a movie, and have the complex unique visual experience which is also good and it fits nicely into the game's play style, especially the searching items element aspect.

Resident Evil 2 has a good ambiance/atmosphere and it fits the game's settings fairly well. Good control design that fits very well with the game's play style and game's concept, while the game also has the right and suitable and reasonable game pace. The enemies are not too hard nor too illogical to make the game become not fun to proceed. Items didn't get highlights and become a spoiler or too apparent to the environment except important key items to add a searching and inspecting element to the game, because survivor elements also need the "search things by yourself" kind of reward or effort element. The game's colors were fairly realistic and naturalistic and are fairly suitable to the game's setting and concept. The environment/backdrop brightness is also fair, suitable and reasonable and it fits the game concept fairly well too, not too dark nor too dim to become boring to look at. The game music was well suited to the game and it felt natural, sometimes the game music also helps build a good atmosphere and create some proper mood and feeling. Well, although RE2 is already good enough actually, but it is still not the best yet, it still has room to be improved, Resident Evil 2 is still lacking, it still need some improvement to become an even better and ideal RE game.

I totally agree with Jay D because the scenarios in RE2 were way too short and the story line wasnt much cop either. Yes its a great game but RE 1 is by far the best of all resident evils so far (Full Stop).

A king among survival horror game genre. A feast for those who like to be scared and a must buy for RE 1 fans. The atmosphere is brilliant, gameplay may not suit everybody since the control scheme is deliberately frustrating. Add to that constant strive for ammo, zombies and mutatns jumping out from nowhere and the creepy enviroments and you have a **** for making you constantly scared ****

Building upon the foundations of the original very few titles to this day have been able to invoke such a sense of dread and isolation, the game making brilliant use of fixed camera angles to make sure the play never knows what is around the next corner.

Of course the graphics and some of the gameplay elements, such as 'bullet sponge' bosses and B-movie scripts, may be outdated now but if you own a PSone or PS2 this is still worth digging out for an idea of what a survival horror game should be like.

This game still suffers from some of my problems with the first game such as the weird unnecessary inventory system and very stiff combat, but this game didn't piss me off as much. In fact I enjoyed this game enough to completely overlook those flaws. It's a pretty rough game but doesn't feel unfair about it. Above all, it's fun and probably one of the best games in the series.

Expand

    scary graphics

    hyper gore action,
    clever puzzle solving
, historic event in video games, only detriment,
replay is very limited, given the few gameplay options.
    still, alot of fun

It's a great game in terms of survival horror elements, gunplay and general aesthetics. The boss fights were a bit awkward and the fact that Route B was more of a "what if" rather than a proper B scenario, left a bitter taste in my mouth. I was hoping to see the game from her point of view but instead I got to do almost the same things that I did with Leon, as if he never existed in the game. Lastly, there were characters I wanted to know more about but outside a couple of "reports" I couldn't help myself further. It would have been great if there was more time and backstory for Mr.X, Willian and Ada.

I'll give it an 8 because despite my concerns, I had a surprisingly good time with the game.

The legacy of Resident Evil 2 cannot be understated. It is the benchmark that most survival horror games are measured against, it serves as the basis of the current canonicity of the Resident Evil franchise. It spawned countless games, spin-offs, comics, soundtracks and audio dramas. It remains to this day, one of the best games ever made.

The combat is pretty difficult, and most of the difficulty comes from awkward camera placement (the camera always looks at your character from some corner of the room and may not see the enemies even if they are close to your character. The story is in B-movie style, aimed at kids and teenagers.
