Electronic Gaming MonthlyI must have yelled "Oh wow!" at least 900 times when I first booted up RayStorm. The polygonal enemies and terrain look phenomenal, making this the most eye-catching PS title yet. [July 1997]
-
I've yet to play a shooter as challenging and impressive as Raystorm, even since the days of playing "R-Type Leo" at a local arcade.
-
It's absolutely gorgeous and while it doesn't have lots of levels, it's fast and furious with an unforgiving amount challenge!
-
GameProThe graphics are a step above the others with multilayered background targets and cool transparency effects, especially underwater. The gameply is dated, however, and the techno-driven soundtrack tries to impress but comes up short. [Oct 1997]
-
Game InformerRaystorm is as intense physically and mentally as it is graphically. It's amazing how much this game packs on-screen at once. At times your greatest enemy isn' a gigantic space station, but rather on-screen confusion. [Aug 1997]
-
RayStorm is easily the best shooter currently available on the PlayStation (we're reserving judgment on "Xevious 3D" until we see the home version).
-
The similarities to "Xevious" are too many to ignore, and hurt the game in its final rating. It is also a little short. However, with amazing graphics, excellent music, and solid gameplay, RayStorm is one shooter you can't do without.
