If you enjoyed "Parasite Eve," be prepared for something different -- better in gameplay, but maybe not as classy in story.

A cracking title, that's so finely tuned and crafted as well as addictive and compelling.

Leave it to Square to find a way to combine survival-horror and RPG elements into a gripping adventure. [Nov 2001, p.50]

Fans of the original game who lamented its poor battle system may now drop their pants and do the hootchie-koo in celebration.
  5. The combat aspect could stand another tweak or two, but the intriguing story -- a blend of creepiness and conspiracy--keeps these discs in the console until the final credits run.

A weird combination of action, puzzle solving, and strategy that is freakishly fun.
  7. If you've gotten tired of the same old formula, or you're a big fan of the more RPG-like combat system of the original game, you may want to pass on PE II.

A challenging game that tells a good story (if you get the best ending that is). Lots of replay value and let's not forget huge full screen bosses.
  9. With an engaging story to complement the gameplay, it is only the game's problematic control and disjointed pace that keep it from scoring higher.
  10. A good sequel that would have been great if the story had more substance.
  11. It's a close contender with all the latest horror-themed action-adventure games for the PlayStation, even though it isn't as engaging or intense as it might have been.
  12. While Parasite Eve II meets most of the criteria for a fairly good horror shoot-em-up, the biggest problem with it is that it doesnt really add anything that hasnt been done before several times. The underlying, flawed control framework of the game has already been revised and improved upon by other games.

Your average person can only take so much -- and getting killed by a group of bats while trying to get to a save point after killing a very strong and challenging boss is enough to drive most rational individuals insane.
  14. More work should have been put into the plot and storytelling of the game.

Just gonna copy and paste my comment in the Parasite Eve page. It really beats me how the Parasite Eve came to an abrupt end. PE2 is perhaps the best Resident Evil clone ever made. In fact I might even go so far as to say it is better (well, almost.) Great combat, excellent atmosphere, fantastic narrative and great visuals (some of the most gorgeous CG sequence on the PS1. Do yourself a favor and checkout the Aya shower scene, and remember this was the PS1!) Overall: Probably one of the best survival horror games I have played with lots of replay value. A real shame this series never got as popular as its rivals. Full Review »

It's like an old Resident Evil game but with magic and even more possibilities and interesting mechanics, with one of the best pre-rendered backgrounds in the PS1, with good character modelling. It also has a huge replay value, which will give you even more possibilities, unlocking new guns, armors and miscellaneous items.
The story is always interesting and all the places you go through are memorable, same for the enemies which each one has their own mechanics, with their strong and weak points.
There are many interesting bosses with their own theme, and they aren't precisely easy to beat, you have to plan a strategy, choose the right spell to find their weaknesses and also avoid their attacks, learn their patterns.
The only flaw I would give to the game would is how the story isn't told properly, which is a shame because I really wished the game had more scenes and more interaction between the main characters because they are actually interesting and I wish I could have known more about them.

In the end, this game is REALLY a great game and everyone who's ever played and liked old Resident Evil games should give Parasite Eve 2 a shot.
