    This game is a masterpiece. After playing it, I understand why everyone says it was so good, it was very ahead of it’s time. If you haven’t played it, and are thinking about skipping it, don’t. Even though it’s 25 years old, it really doesn’t feel that dated. The boss battles can be hard, but are very rewarding to finish

    Кодзима такой Кодзима. Согласны? Пафос, киношность, юмор в серьезных моментах и гениальность всего происходящего. Все это присуще играм Кодзимы. MGS стал вроде его первым таким крупным опытом в кресле геймдизайнера. Справился же он с этой работой просто на ура. Озвучка, которую я сначала слегка не взлюбил, но после именно она выжимала из меня слезы; геймплей, который бесил, но после сталКодзима такой Кодзима. Согласны? Пафос, киношность, юмор в серьезных моментах и гениальность всего происходящего. Все это присуще играм Кодзимы. MGS стал вроде его первым таким крупным опытом в кресле геймдизайнера. Справился же он с этой работой просто на ура.     You know, I expected a game with the word "Metal" in the title to have some metal music but I was sadly disappointed. But the game is still fantastic so I'm willing to let it somewhat of the hook.

    En realidad es un juego que te hace apreciar las escenas en los videojuegos, así como el medio como uno que sirve para contar historias interactivas.

    Admito que no me gustaron algunas cosas, un par de escenas se sentían forzadas, como por ejemplo algunas que servían para decir señalar cosas del sentido común, cómo cuando te enseñan como subir por una escalera, por ejemplo... Pero    En realidad es un juego que te hace apreciar las escenas en los videojuegos, así como el medio como uno que sirve para contar historias interactivas.

    Admito que no me gustaron algunas cosas, un par de escenas se sentían forzadas, como por ejemplo algunas que servían para decir señalar cosas del sentido común, cómo cuando te enseñan como subir por una escalera, por ejemplo...

    Pero generalmente los personajes son únicos, los comentarios que hace de la politica, los militares y las armas nucleares son reafirmantes entorno a la vida y la jugabilidad, aunque bastante arcaica en muchos aspectos, sigue siendo divertida en muchos otros.

    Lo único que resentí en mi experiencia realmente fue la dificultad, incluso en la dificultad "normal" el juego me pareció brutalmente difícil, sobre todo al pelear contra los jefes, el final me habrá tomado unas diez veces derrotarlo, pese a que sabía que tenía que hacer. Además había unas partes que no me gustaron, como cuando el juego me pedía que volviera a áreas antes exploradas para tener que recuperar algún arma o alterar una llave...

    Pero en general, me quede con una buena experiencia, cabe mencionar que estos meses fueron la primera experiencia que tuve con el juego, había jugado todos los anteriores, pero estos últimos meses fueron los primeros cuando termine por acabar este.    … Expand

    The guards recognize your footprints. This is one of the first things the game shows.
    The possible interactions in this game were outstanding 20 years ago.

    Except for the graphics, the game has aged pretty well and is playable even without nostalgia glasses. Truly a genre defining game.

    Simplemente un videojuego revolucionario para su epoca e incluso hoy en dia, se conserva muy bien pese a todos los años que tiene encima. Una narrativa y jugabilidad exquisitas, rejugable varias veces, las misiones VR y mucho más ofrece esta obra magna, la cual merece considerarse uno de los mejores juegos de la historia, por no decir el mejor.

Ответственно заявляю, что игра на все сто прошла проверку временем и играется сегодня также ахуенно как и и почти двадцать лет назад (тут даже сохранения чуть ли не в любой момент есть, эт прям некст ген тех лет). Сюжет завораживает и прям за душуЛучшая игра с PS1 по моему объективному мнению, которая дала старт (упустим времена MSX) одной из самых говорящих франшиз в истории видеоигр.     An absolute masterclass in storytelling and action-stealth gameplay. Wonderful level design, lovable characters and some of the best boss fights in all of gaming. The controls have dated quite a bit, but don't let that distract you from the fact that this is one of the best gaming experiences out there.

    Metal Gear Solid is a classic video game that's like watching a movie while playing a game. The cut-scenes are just like a Hollywood blockbuster because of the music and camera styles, the voice acting is also good and makes it feel like you're watching a film. Solid Snake is a cool character (Also Dante in Devil May Cry is cool), the game sees Solid Snake working for FOXHOUND again and he must enter a base Antarctic base where a new Metal Gear is being made. Metal Gear REX.

    It seems a group of FOXHOUND that Liquid recruited are protecting the Metal Gear, the members are: Revolver Ocelot, a master at using six-shooters, Psycho Mantis, a powerful telekinetic, Vulcan Raven, a man that is linked to the ravens and uses a huge Gatling gun, Sniper Wolf, an expert sniper and Decoy Octopus, a mysterious member of FOXHOUND.

    Also a cyborg Ninja who is Grey Fox is roaming about in the base, Snake meets with Meryl and Otacon who help him out in the base while he gets codec messages off Roy Campbell and others at the submarine.

    The game-play is easy to pick up since the codec messages give you the tips on how to play, the stealth and action is also great. Metal Gear Solid is a game that should be played. 10/10    … Expand

    It was ahead of its time, a masterpiece of story, directing and atmosphere. Played about 10 times, this game led me to the story driven single player part of gaming that I value the most today and that I'm not going to leave.

    The game that changed the industry forever. Not the best graphics on the time, not the best music, not the best gameplay, and not the longest. But the stealth mecanics, the story, the characters, and one of the best protagonists of all time made this game unforgettable.

    After that game i just started laughing at the modern concept of Exclusive games. Being ported on many platforms, it still PS1 exclusive anyway.
    My advice: if you don't have PS1 with CRT TV, don't play in PC port, because they cut many features. Just download the emulator and find a good gamepad. Not necessary, but if you get a good CRT monitor (any Trinitron for example), it will be great

    A true classic, and it holds up well today as it's really the simplest in terms of gameplay. More of an upjumped NES game, the real upgrade comes in the intelligent story told with flair and panache. Still my favorite in the series.

    MGS's story is phenomenal and extremely compelling I don't blame people to purchase the game just for the story but the main glaring issue is the controls, the controls are an outdated mess and    Metal Gear Solid (MGS) is a classic title for the ps1 and one of the greatest game of all time, that's what most people would say. MGS is a good game don't get me wrong, but its an overrated one.
    MGS's story is phenomenal and extremely compelling I don't blame people to purchase the game just for the story but the main glaring issue is the controls, the controls are an outdated mess and ruins the game significantly.
    The controls ruins the story at most points because it replaces the feeling of intensity with pure frustration and it destroys the game because of it, a prime example of this problem is the fight with liquid on top of Metal Gear Rex the cut-scene that lead to this conflict was to put it simply, intense and thrilling but the moment you fight liquid the game falls flat on its face and makes the player suffer from horrible controls and it kills the atmosphere.
    overall MGS is only good for the story and the controls are a god awful mess that kills the overall game.    … Expand

    metal gear solid de ps1 é um jogo que ainda impressiona hoje em dia, sua historia é muito boa e muito EPICA as musicas são interesantes contendo musicas muito boas e marcantes e outras nem tanto, a jogabilidade é boa e da pra jogar sem muitos problemas até hoje em dia, os bosses são muito divertidos de enfrentar e eles são bem marcantes e cada um tem um jeito diferente de enfrentar, é ummetal gear solid de ps1 é um jogo que ainda impressiona hoje em dia, sua historia é muito boa e muito EPICA as musicas são interesantes contendo musicas muito boas e marcantes e outras nem tanto, a jogabilidade é boa e da pra jogar sem muitos problemas até hoje em dia, os bosses são muito divertidos de enfrentar e eles são bem marcantes e cada um tem um jeito diferente de enfrentar, é um jogo bom recomendo a todos dar uma chance e principalmente se voce gosta de jogos com historias epicas… Expand

    I don't think I could accurately describe all my thoughts on this game with thrice the character limit, so instead of trying to condense both a review and my thoughts, this will primarily be about what I think of this game as a whole, because I don't really think I can say anything about its plot or characters that hasn't already been said.

    Admittedly I haven't played too many Ps1 games, but I feel absolute conviction when I say, Metal Gear Solid is one of the absolute best Ps1 games ever made. A game that perfectly meshes dumb goofy humour and a serious anti-nuclear war message, all tied neatly together with amazing characters, which the sequels would only build further upon.

    Though the somewhat titular character Solid Snake, has appeared twice before in Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, skipping straight ahead to this game will not leave you guessing as to who exactly Snake is, his ideals, beliefs and general personality is given plainly to the player in exposition and his dialogue with other characters. He doesn't see himself as the war hero the other characters do, making unsubtle comments about himself that go against the legend of Solid Snake. Making Snakes character even better is Meryl Silverburgh, acting as the wide eyed rookie who thinks Snake is a hero, their interactions are always great, though can lean of the edgy side occasionally. Almost done with your allies now, but up next is my personal favourite character, Hal Emmerich, better known as Otacon, which he came up with himself as a portmanteau of "Otaku Convention" Hal is a weeb. He's also the scientist behind Metal Gear Rex, the titular nuclear war mech. Developing it under the pretense of creating a Nuclear Deterrent, Hal later joins up with Snake after learning he had been lied to. Finally there's your Codec Comrades, Colonel Roy Campbell, Dr. Naomi Hunter, and Mei Ling, there's also Master Miller, who fans of Peace Walker and MGS5 will recognize as Kazuhira Miller, who actually turns out to be antagonist, Liquid Snake in disguise. Finally there's Natasha Romanenko... anyway. For villains we have the terrorist cell known as Foxhound, notable members consist of Psycho Mantis, a tragic character with one of the most prolific boss fights of all time and the only member who makes an effort to redeem himself before death. Sniper Wolf, the Sniper...who likes wolves. She has a rather tragic relationship with Hal, starting the trend of everybody Hal loves dying. Revolver Ocelot, who doesn't do too much here, is a series mainstay and only gets more interesting. And finally their boss, Liquid Snake who is of course, Solid Snakes cloned brother, both of which were cloned from series antagonist/protagonist Big Boss. Liquid, later called Eli, is the leader of Foxhound and possesses Big Boss' Dominant genes, while Solid possesses his recessive genes, however believing himself to possess the recessive genes, he harbors a particular hatred for Snake believing himself to be inferior to him. Combined with his inferiority complex over believing he's inferior to both Snake and Big Boss, and manipulation by Ocelot, causes Liquid to lash out at the world, trying to create an unstoppable war machine and prove his superiority, but of course, Snake wins, proving he is in fact superior to Liquid despite his genetic inferiority.

    Where the game shines is with its characters and its story, and I think where the remake The Twin Snakes fails is with its attempt to make it far more bombastic than it ever was meant to be. Snake's story is one of tragedy, and this first game takes itself far more seriously than the rest, giving him more emotional scenes between characters like Gray Fox, a returning character from the MSX games, and the adoptive brother of Naomi Hunter after killing her parents. His sacrifice at the end of the game to give Snake a fighting chance against REX, the following conversation with Naomi about when Snake will die with the FOXDIE virus that killed Liquid coursing through his veins, it's all played very straight and doesn't really mesh with TTS's weird, rocket surfing nonsense. Snake is a character who only gets better as his writing progresses, who's relationships only get deeper and more complicated with both his friends and enemies, and who's story only gets longer, until he's finally allowed to stop at the tail end of his life. And all of that is thanks to this game laying the groundwork, and unlike so many games that share a similar legacy, Metal Gear Solid holds up even today as a great game.    … Expand

    The best PS1 game, fairly played it as a child. Revisited several times through the years. Very ahead of its time and probably the first spies game ever. Easily in my top 10 of all time.

    I'm not going to go on and on, but do think this is a good average game and that's it. I think it was totally overrated for just way too long.

    The controls are lousy
    The visuals are blurry and use texture warping which I'm not a fan of.
    The foxhound members are a bit cartoony and over the top for my tastes.

    Its still a good stealth game, even with its flaws.

I wasn't a gamer back in 1998 to have the honour of playing video games like Half-Life or MGS, but i understand and respect their impact and legacy. The first time that i played metal gear solid, i wasn't that intrigued by it but as i continued and as the story opened up more i found myself in a string of conspiracies and relationships. Just like Half-Life, Metal Gear solid has the beautiful balance of story and action in it but also like Half-Life it introduced something to gaming, Half-Life introduced Scripted moments and MGS introduced the subject of choice in video games. The idea of killing them or sneaking past them. Unlike other games of those era MGS graphics kinda bring it down a little bit, because the game is relied on character interactions and dialog and it can sure enjoy the benefit of being remade.… Expand

    Metal Gear Solid, para muchos uno de los mejores juegos de la historia. Para mi, diré lo malo y lo bueno claro. Lo bueno, lo mejor la pelea contra SniperWolf. Ya lo que dice SPOILER: Al morir, me da mucho igual, pero la pelea, desde que pasas a los lobos a ellas me gusta mucho. Cuando Agarran a Snake, me gusta mucho. Lo de tener que apretar O creo para parar el dolor, es buenísimo. La banda sonora, que bueno... es de un ruso, pero igual es maravillosa. Artisitcamente es sorprendentemente bueno. Lo de Mantis, los finales alternativos.

    Lo Malo: para mi, no. Algunos bosses, como el del hielo, el que se lo comen los cuervos pos¨ ese. El primero, que es el mismo que el del hielo. La primera parte del juego es casi de 10, hasta que aparece Liquid Snake. Lo del amor, los speech de m---da cada vez que matabas un jefe, Horrible. El diseño de nivel que es muy simple. Aunque por ser de psx se perdona. Y para mi lo peor con mucha, pero mucha diferencia, el final. No la pelea con Liquid, que ya me parece estúpida, porque supuestamente y entre muchas comillas estaba muerto. Eso no, lo que dice Snake al final, me parece la cosa mas cursi, estúpida, incoherentemente estúpida, como el típico final de pelicula que te mandan y dicen, VIVA LA VIDA Y SOBRE TODO ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡EL AMORRRRRRRRRRRR.

    I tried to get into metal gear solid but I just couldn't. Whilst it was probably good once upon a time it is terribly outdated by today's gaming standards. The controls are stiff and hard to use, the gun combat is dreadful because of the aiming mechanic and some boss fights such as the helicopter battle are just awful. There's also a lot of backtracking which is a negative - It doesn'tI tried to get into metal gear solid but I just couldn't.     After ignoring the franchise for my entire life. I decided to dive in, starting with the ps1 classic. While some of the movment and hit detection has aged... not so well. The story, mechanics and surprises keep this game fresh even in 2021. Hopefully we'll see a proper remake in the near future for ps5. Until then I look forward to playing the rest of the franchise

    Metal Gear Solid is the 2nd game in the Metal Gear series I've completed, the first being Metal Gear Solid 3 in January of 2014 but the original MGS has always been with me in one way or another. My introduction to Metal Gear was Egoraptor's Metal Gear Awesome, a flash series that poked fun at the game and specifically spoke on bizarre things the player would have to do during gameplay that they often wouldn't have thought of in any other game. Because I watched Metal Gear Awesome so much, the bizarre tactics highlighted in the animation almost served as tips for me when actually playing. I had watched Metal Gear Awesome so many times that I already knew how to complete a lot of the game. It was just really cool to finally see it first hand instead of recreated through crude animation.

    Anyway, I enjoyed the hell out of Metal Gear Solid. My favorite part of the Metal Gear series and Kojima games in general are that they often make the player a part of the game. It's almost as if you're a character in the game as well and gameplay wise, MGS 1 outshines the other MGS games in terms of that. The only parts of the game I legitimately disliked were the parts where you're forced into combat (not including boss battles) and one specific section with dogs. Overall, this game is a masterpiece and I think it holds up better than others give it credit for.

    There were definitely other good games for the PS1, including Resident Evil 2, FF7, etc, but what sets MGS apart for me is the level of detail and every nook and cranny of the game having so much care put into the game. If you play through other games in the PS1 lineup, you'll find messy textures, or areas where the developers just didn't bother to put the level of care. In MGS1, Kojima and his team put so much detail into creating the setting, that even individual desks were created to make each desk feel unique.

    Un gran juego que se mantiene intacto al paso del tiempo por su historia sencilla pero increibliemente contada, pero que en terminos de jugabilidad es un producto que cojea por todos lados por su limitacion de items y pocos movimientos del personaje, quedando en gameplay un juego de infiltraccion deficiente, pero me sorprende el nivel de detalle que tiene para ser un juego de PS1.
