  1. The game's laborious method of having to constantly upgrade replacement killers tacked onto a rather genericly expanded story, buries all of the unique properties that were meant to make this game stand out.
  2. Looks nearly identical to Squaresoft's game ["Final Fantasy Tactics"]. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but visuals is about the only area where Hoshigami stays on par with FFT.
  3. Those who hang on will discover one of the most versatile and engaging battle systems out there, along with a highly customizable magic system.

I had to do a good bit of tutorial research before I knew what the heck I was doing in this game. [Feb 2002, p.94]
  5. A difficult game, and, as the developer's first effort, it's a bit rough around the edges. For serious fans of the genre, the game can be very time consuming and rewarding in the way a good strategy game should be.

Lamentably, this FFT doppelganger actually reminds me more of Tactics Ogre, and that’s a stop back for the genre. [Feb 2002, p.168]
  7. So you've got overly emphasized elements, a hit or miss magic creation system, and some pretty addicting session attacks. How does it all play out in actual gameplay? Kind of blasé and very frustrating to tell you the truth.

The battles are too tough for all the wrong reasons. [Feb 2002, p.116]

I hate Hoshigami...Whatever the reason is, this game is just too hard. And when it's this hard, it's just not fun.

It has enough quality to it to keep you invested, but as soon as you start grinding for the improvement of your units you will still find enemies to be quite a difficult task to deal with, the RAP gauge seems fine and innovative system but the gimmicks that the game provides like Coinfeigm system, Shoot and Session system to help you in battle looks promising but in the end you'll find them either less rewarding and less useful in battle for achieving the winning condition, enemies can still hurt you from afar, you need to instead rely on your wits finding other ways like tactical positioning and spamming cure spells and digesting health potions to sustain the troops to keep fighting, most of the time you'll see your units doing the kneeling pose. And the looping music doesn't help either on those long battles. I spent time on this game, but i just wasn't getting much fun out of it. Full Review »

This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. Finally i finished this punishing title after countless hours the last save is more than 90hours but i am pretty sure that i've spent more than that if i count all the retries and some unsaved hours spent in the tower of trials just to compare two deities to each other but it wasn't worth it anyway due to characters limit I'll make a list of negatives and positives
    - enemy attack range is not visible most of the time due to the fixed camera height position you can't navigate through enemies (archers and magicians) attack range cases to avoid their attacks, you can only rotate the fixed viewing angle of the camera but you won't see them all because of the camera height itself and some high buildings block your view even your own attacks that have an AOE 13 or 25 you're gonna struggle rotating that camera to hit the right enemies
    - hidden objects are hard to reach and hard to notice when under water
    - no cancel movement
    - coins upgrade is a mess
    - towers of trials this is where you gonna spend most of the time playing
    - no revive until the last chapter of the game it's useless anyway
    - remaining xp points and dev points are not counted once you reach a new level
    - to organize your character coins you have to choose each coins everytime from the coin list
    - characters are subject to all kind of negative effects
    - you're always in a disadvantage in battle and always outnumbered and underpowered no matter what you do unless you spend so many hours in the tower of trials which is the only way to overcome this problem, you start at a low level ground and your enemies are at a higher level ground most of the enemies are archers and mages the rest use melee attack you can hit or miss them even if you go behind them but you'll do them a little damage with melee attack the only way to reach them and do some high damage is by using magic however the enemies mages have more resistance to it but they do receive damage especially if you have strong coins because you can't use melee you'll be dead before you make a step forward you only need it to finish the last hit when they're out of cpc points coins i didn't figure out how magic works even tho i had trish and medilleve in the team but i couldn't cast any spell since they weren't equipped with coins until in the middle of chapter 2 if i remember right i went in the menu to equip my characters with weak coins imagine the hard time i had with the previous battles relying on melee and useless hp seeds
    - enemies always match your high level character unless you spend countless hours in the tower of trial
    - sometimes there's 3 battles in a row no save in between and you start every new battle with the same hp left from the previous battle
    - camera takes unnecessary time to move to each character

+ cheap weapons, armors and items only the best weapons and armors are available once you reach lvl 15 and 16 DEV, i used shichish(i)tou best chroma's weapon it's better than any weapon available in the shop it has all 7 negative effects but it is useless against leimrey and blackthorns
+ ready action point is a good system

conclusion: the battle system focuses on long range attacks, the enemies have an advantage of high ground position which give them an almost infinte range of attack for archers and safety for the mages which use all kind of damage coins and negative effects coins with long range and a wide area of effect, to overcome this tactic you must (and it's the only way to win) use magic with a long range and a wide area of effect with high damage and somebody to heal your teammates, you gonna spend a lot of time on this one most likely on tower of trial and engraving coins and struggling with the camera view, it was pretty boring

    P.S
i had to mute the sound and play because of the repetitive themes

The RAP (Ready for Action Point) System and Attack Sessions are innovative and require some strategic thinking. The Coinfeigm System and the fact that characters don't have set classes allow for a lot of customizations and the difficulty is on the dot. The graphics are great, and in my opinion, are better to FFT. The story and sound is on par with others in its class. My only con is that sometimes you got to dedicate time to it and level up, which breaks the flow of the game. Not for people looking for cheap, quick thrills, but if you have patience and love RPG/Strategy games, it is a very rewarding experience. Full Review »
