Superbeat: Xonic is an original enough take on the rhythm genre to make it feel fresh again and is easily the best touch screen based music game I've played with Cytus coming a close second.

SUPERBEAT: XONiC is a fantastic rhythm game that uses its roots to its advantage; drawing from DJ MAX experience to create a portable addiction that's accessible to all fans of the genre, and playable (with a challenge) at all skill levels. If you pick up one rhythm game this year it should most certainly be this one!

It captures what I love about rhythm games and constantly challenges me and my reflexes. The menus aren’t too obtrusive, the variety of music keeps the game fresh, and it has an inspired aesthetic that really draws you in, and I certainly found myself bopping my head to the music.

For Vita owners and Rhythm players this game is a match made in a bass bumping heaven.

This is my favourite rhythm game across all platforms, with its song selection spreading across all genres, perfect core gameplay, and fantastic presentation.

Superbeat XONiC is an incredible contribution to the genre of rhythm games and the library of PS Vita. With addictive mechanics, a fresh repertoire and a superb design, it becomes one of the best actual games of its kind.

Superbeat: Xonic is a surprisingly positive videogame for PlayStation Vita. A perfect title for all fans of rhythm games.

One of the best musical experiences you can enjoy on Vita. Maybe its visuals aren't as polished as those seen in Persona 4 Dancing All Night. Maybe it lacks some game modes but as pure gameplay, it's one of the best and most entertaining rhythm games you can find on a portable system right now. But, as usual with this kind of games, consider first the kind of music you like: if you are more on the guitar hero vein, maybe its K-Pop (and other genres as electronic, r&b or metal) won't fit with your tastes.

The tunes’ over-the-top excursions into sensory overload are a ton of fun, and their brief length makes them ideal for portable gaming.

Maybe it is a little bit weak when it comes to the presentation, but the gameplay is solid and incredibly addictive. If you like music games, this is one you should try.

Unabashedly hardcore, Superbeat demands patience, commitment and fast fingers. If you have at least most of those qualities, give it a go - you might find a new obsession on Vita. [Issue#265, p.80]

Playing Superbeat: Xonic is like going to a nightclub and being force fed Haribo Tangfastics whilst hooked up to an intravenous drip of Moutain Dew. It’s really enjoyable if, like me, you like a good thumping dance tune and a bit of K-pop. Superbeat is a welcome addition to the dwindling PlayStation Vita library and one that will keep you entertained for many train journeys to come.

Even though I wasn’t as big of a fan of the song list in XONiC compared to other DJMax games, the developers at PM Studios prove themselves to be back in top form with a slick package that plays just as well as it looks.

It's not only a great addition to the Vita's library – it's one of the best rhythm games on the platform.

One nice rhythm game, despite its awful interface and a not-so-great music selection.

Which, I guess, is the best way to describe Superbeat Xonic as a whole: it's nice enough to look at, and it does what it does with an expected degree of competence, but you wouldn't mistake it for the best the genre has to offer.

Early frustrations aside, it's compulsive experience that plays heavily to PS Vita's strengths in both the core gameplay and its structure. [Jan 2016, p.93]

So if you are looking for good music/rhythm game with a wide range of songs and a bit of challenge, check out Superbeat: Xonic.

That issue aside, Superbeat: Xonic is a vibrant, slick and well-produced rhythm game that, while minimalist, has a clear identity of its own. On the PlayStation Vita there is already plenty of good quality rhythm games, but this one sits in the with them nicely.

Easy to get into and challenging to master, Superbeat: Xonic will please many rhythm game fans, even if a few presentation elements feel like a step backwards from the developer's previous work.

While gameplay at the core is functional and multilayered, most won’t find themselves excited to play over and over again.

As previous developers of the DJMAX series, one could say Xonic is their spiritual successor to the previous rhythm franchise. What was originally a Japanese arcade only experience, has now become one of the more polished, enjoyable rhythm games on the Vita. And with their experience they have nailed down the best formula; immaculate music and presentation with a solid progression system.

Aside from a few Guilty Gear intro songs, there weren’t any songs that I recognized. The selection of music were mostly Korean and Japanese, but a majority of it was sung (marvelously) in English or mostly electronically instrumental. Feeling the beat was easy, and most of the songs were easy to listen to (except for one song which is literally the s word continuously screamed). I was able to listen to the limited edition soundtrack, which came with the limited 500 copy edition of the game, in the car without any objections from my fellow passengers. With a variety of genres, the music selection is prime.

The gameplay is the closest to describe if you can imagine a combination of DJ Max’s speed and intricacy, with the visual appeal of Persona 4: Dancing All Night. There are approximately 12 different inputs that can be scaled down to 8 depending on how many plates you want to spin, every right note is satisfying and the World Tour system brings about good amelioration to make sure that you can keep hitting the right notes on later difficulties.

Increasing difficulty and good music goes hand in hand when making sure a rhythm game stays consistent and not boring. I haven’t been able to put down Superbeat Xonic, it’s a commendable addition to the Vita library and has a lot of passion put into it.
