  • Summary: Sketchcross is a logic puzzler based on the nonogram ruleset. Think a mix between crosswords and sudoku.

Sketchcross is a solid game that fans of puzzle games should definitely find enjoyment in. Sadly, its interface is not super intuitive and there isn’t a tremendous amount of puzzles. Throw in the difficulty curve and this might not be the best game for players who never experienced nonograms before.

If you can do these picture logic puzzles in your sleep, then nothing here should be too far out of your comfort zone. For anyone else, however, I feel like the barrier of entry is just a little too high and the payoff a little too low to make Sketchcross worth the investment.

If you're looking for a fresh way to solve nonograms, this game's worth a gander, but others may not want to put on the specific brand of thinking cap required here for long.

Sketchcross brings a new type of logic puzzle to the Vita, and while these nonograms start off interesting, they eventually become a frustrating guessing game. Some odd design choices are confusing, but when the puzzles work the game is solid.

Pull up a chair and put on your thinking cap for the "smartest" game ever to hit the PS Vita

Sketchcross began Development in June 2014 by Spiky Fish Games (based in Arizona). Four months later they had already created an Alpha version. In October 2014 the team recieved SCEA approval and started full development for an early 2015 release. In April 28th Spiky Fish Games, released Sketchcross in The US.

Sketchcross is a logic picture puzzle game. Similar to Sudoku and Crosswords players are given clues and must use them to fill the grid. In Sketchcross, puzzles form a picture, that can help players quests to solve puzzles. The numbers on the rows/columns are groups, the value of those numbers is the amount of connecting blocks in that group. Each group must be separated by at least one blank space. Sketchcross launches with 50 puzzles featuring a variety of subjects and sizes. Small puzzles are 5 by 5 while the largest puzzles are 30 by 30. The game offers 3 difficulty settings allowing for casual play as well as beat the clock play. Difficulty also dictates the use of the Check Button which you can use to find any errors or get hints. Sketchcross also has Frenzy mode which is a randomly generated mode. Frenzy mode gives the player just 30 seconds to finish a 5 by 5 puzzle. PSN leaderboards are integrated into Sketchcross allowing for players to view their best time against the world and their friends.

Good: exciting new take on the complex, puzzle game genre.
Bad: If you are new to "Sudoku", you may be kind of lost at first.
Verdict: If you are a fan of puzzle games you should have no problem picking this one up as it will be right up your alley. Sketchcross is mobile-friendly, easy to play (once you know how). And can be enjoyed anywhere!
