Really solid port of three classic games, we all know Ratchet and Clank, whacky weapons, hilarious story and lots of luscious planets to explore. Unlike FFX and God of War, this series hasn't aged well in terms of game design. I've encountered sound cut-offs but it was very rare. The cut-scenes are unedited but that is to be expected when you slap together a collection for some quick profit.

It's a shame because I really enjoyed the PS3 series, but the original 3 are pretty rough around the edges.

I personally only bought this for Ratchet & Clank 3 on the go, and Mass Media not only reached my expectations, they absolutely amazed me. The other two, Ratchet & Clank 2 and Ratchet & Clank 3 are absolutely perfect ports of truly astounding games. They have aged amazingly, the graphics are beautiful, not the best looking on the Vita, but beautiful none-the-less. The music and sound is great, along with the designs and cutscenes. Gameplay is a mix between combat and platforming, and it's great. With the exception of the black bars on the sides of the screen in pre-rendered cutscenes, this is a great port of some great PlayStation 2 classics, granted, the PS Vita isn't the best place to experience them for the first time, if you've already played it and are looking to revisit the early games, then this is a trilogy you mustn't miss out on. For the sake of good Vita ports, please, buy this game. Expand

The games are amazing but just like the horribly bad Jak trilogy on vita, also made by this same developer, they ruin my memories of this franchise.(whats left of it after the more resent ratchet games that is)

When is Sony going to stop giving its Classic flagship titles the middle finger on the Vita? Jak was horrible with its slowdowns and control issues, God of war was 18fps and now ratchet is sub par... The only good trilogy on Vita is Sly.

The Vita is full of bad ports. After the team that did this brought us the infamously bad Jak collection I was not expecting much. While this collection is definitely better than the Jak one, it's no where near as good as the Sly collection (Which, apart from Sly 1, was actually native resolution and runs quite well, even if the cut scenes are very compressed.)

This collection has reasonably uncompressed cut scenes in comparison. On the other hand, the graphics are about on par with the PS2 version, with some graphicle glitches and some missing effects. The game is not native resolution and so looks quite blurry and pixelated. If I wanted to play the game in a lower resolution I would whip out my PS2. The on the go argument can only get you so far, especially if it leads to compromises to classic titles.

As well as all that, it only runs at 30FPS with drops and slowdown, creating a slow motion like effect, similar to what happens if you play the HD collection in 3D on the PS3. It also crashed a few times in my play through. Do not believe some of the naive Vita owners (Most aren't, but some...) when they say it runs fine. Most of them believe Assassins Creed runs fine on the Vita, even though it runs at 18FPS, and also is blurry, pixelated and glitchy. It was only until the HD release of Assassins Creed that people called it out for being bad.

In all, it's not the worst collection or port on the Vita, but as with all others (Except, debatably, the aforementioned Sly collection) the Vita is not the best place to experience them, especially because it is cheaper to buy the PS3 version on PSN, and the you get the Vita one free as well, which makes it worth while (Except of course there is no cross save even though the trophies are shared between the Vita and PS3!)

It's a 5 for me because it is not the worst, but I wish Sony would stop shoving inferior ports onto the Vita. This, Jak, GoW and Borderlands 2 puts Sony and the Vita to shame, especially the classic exclusives. You would think Sony would give a damn.

After several other HD collections, the Ratchet and clank trilogy has come to the Vita. The trilogy includes all of the content of the original releases except for the multiplayer of Ratchet 3 Up your Arsenal.
The trilogy has been ported by Mass Media inc, the studio responsible for the not so well received Jak and Daxter port to the Vita last year. However the Ratchet and Clank port runs much better at a solid 30fps, in addition to that the games do not suffering from any bugs, glitches or crashes which made people so angry with Jak and Daxter on the Vita.
Even though the games run smoothly, the games do unfortunately look dated graphically, these games are 10 year ago and it shows. The cut scenes are the worst offenders because just like the ps3 version they are not in HD and instead, as a compromise, the aspect ratio has been altered in an attempt to improve the visual quality, this may seem bad but it is nowhere near as horrible as the pixelated mess which was the Sly collection on Vita. But it is still disappointing though as the picture quality does not do justice to the high quality writing and story of each of the games. The in-game graphics are in HD but due to outdated textures and polygon count the games ultimately looks like a bunch of shiny ps2 games, they don’t look terrible but they don’t look great either. Although the games don’t look great, the fun and fitting soundtrack sound good on the Vita.
Graphics are not everything though and the gameplay of the trilogy is just how you remember it, excellent. The variety of weapons at Ratchet’s disposal makes the games extremely fun and enjoyable for anyone no matter their age or skill level. The controls are solid with the back-touch pad only being used for minor actions such as strafing and crouching. It’s cool to see how each instalment improves upon the last, one gameplay element I which was added to Ratchet 1 and 2 is the control scheme of Ratchet 3 which allowed for better aiming and even a First person mode. The games are also a little too easy for my liking and there is only one difficulty setting but that’s only a minor issue though.
The Ratchet and clank trilogy provides an enormous amount of value for a budget release, with each game having around 10 hours’ worth of story content each and that’s not even mentioning the collectables and the trophy lists for each game, that means there are three platinum’s for the price of one, but there is no cross-save meaning that there are no double platinum’s.
Overall you should definitely pick up these classics right away if you’re a Vita owner and especially if you have never played these games before; better yet the trilogy is cross-buy meaning that if you buy it digitally than you also get the ps3 version for free. With that being said the Ratchet and Clank trilogy gets an A grade. So don’t let Mass media’s last port scare you off and relieve the adventures of Ratchet and Clank on the Vita.

Ratchet & Clank has never had that 'console emulation' on a handheld. Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters on the PSP was close, but the absence of arenas and a second joystick definitely held it back. Secret Agent Clank was a completely different kind of game altogether, and Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault (Q-Force)'s PS Vita debut was less than stellar. Much less.

Secret Agent Clank was a completely different kind of game altogether, and Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault (Q-Force)'s PS Vita debut was less than stellar. Much less.

But all of that has changed, now that the Ratchet & Clank Collection is on the PS Vita! I'm going to list information, pros, cons, and my overall notes and thoughts to help you decide wither or not you should be interested in this portable collection.

    WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:

The Ratchet & Clank Collection consists of:
    -Ratchet & Clank
-Ratchet & Clank 2: Going Commando (Locked and Loaded)
-Ratchet & Clank 3: Up Your Arsenal

These are the first 3 Ratchet & Clank games for the PS2 developed by Insomniac Games (and ported by Mass Media).Currently, there is no physical release for the game in North America. However, the entire trilogy costs 3.3GB, which isn't too bad as long as you've already gotten over those rediculous PS Vita memory card prices.

The Physical Version of this game sold in certain regions consists of a gamebreaking bug in Ratchet & Clank 2: Locked and Loaded, be warned.

Oh,and the PS Vita port of Ratchet & Clank 3: Up Your Arsenal is lacking any sort of multiplayer functions from the PS2 version, which really sucks if you were expecting your multiplayer fix on the PS Vita.

    CONS:

-Lack of Multiplayer Mode for R&C3: UYA*
-Some Sound Effects are poor quality. (Things like Ratchet's gameplay voice clips)
    -Occasional Music Track skipping
-Rear Touch Pad can cause awkward controls*
-Slight Input Lag (most notible for the first game)*

    PROS:

-SOLID 30fps (Like the Sly Cooper Collection on PS Vita)*
-More polished than the PS3 Collection (PS3 Collection Ported by Idol Minds)*
-The Color looks the same as it did on PS2 (Unlike the PS3 Collection which had washed out colors)
-Custom Soundtrack (You can listen to the music downloaded on your PS Vita during gameplay)*
    -Menus have correct touch commands
    -Modified textures for handheld convenience
-Strong Battery Life (I played R&C3 UYA for close to 5 hours straight and still had more than half my battery available. (I own the OLED 3G model)*
-No black tansition screens (Make the game's presentation feel much faster)

    (* = Strong Points)

    THOUGHTS & OPINIONS:

Since the PS2 & PS3 versions of these games ran at 60fps, the framerate may through you off at first, but you get used to it fast. Speaking of getting used to things, after playing Ratchet & Clank 3: Up Your Arsenal for a few hours, I was using the Rear Touch Pad instinctively with no issues. (Hours).
Another thing worth mentioning is, I absolutely love playing on Annihilation Nation with music from my PS Vita, Custom Soundtrack really is an overlooked feature.
And again, the lack of any physical release kept me sore, and I do hope Sony reconsideres one later down the road. The Ratchet & Clank Collection on PS Vita is less glitchy, but also less quality than the PS3 version. You're also walking around with 3 of the greatest games ever in your pocket, and I don't think I'll be going back to the PS3 Collection any time soon.

    SCORE:

The Ratchet & Clank Collection on PS Vita may have a few issues, but nothing you won't get used to after playing for a while. I'd give it an 8.6/10

I admit that the shooting mechanics are archaic compared to modern shooters, but these games were not about shooting itself but rather about having fun. It's not about headshots or killstreaks but using otherworldly weapons like sheepinator and Rhyno and have fun with them.

While the 1st game focused more on platforming, each new game put platforming to the side in favor of shooting. By Ratchet 3 it had become too much of a shooter IMHO. Still, great games.

Like many PS2 era games, Ratchet and Clank games are fun, with comical scripts and lighthearted humor. It's something that I totally miss these days with most modern games.

On Vita these games run at just 30 fps (in contrast to the PS3 version's 60 fps) and can drop below that on demanding scenes, the game's resolution is lower than the screen's with some noticeable (but not distracting) aliasing, but even then the remaster is among the good ones. Playability is not affected too much. I have played all 3 games on Vita to completion.

If you like Ratchet and Clank there are also the PS3-era games and the PS4 remake of the 1st game with much better graphics and revamped gameplay. I hope we see a new Ratchet and Clank game in the future.

Sorry. you'll have to try it for yourself. but one and two were awsome so you will get to see my review on those two. let's start!

The first game is a 8/10; Wow, first introduction for me in the serie (that later will become OBSESSED with),
the positives: good story. adorable characters, Ratchet and Clank are a killer duo, they had good character developments together, good humor and not too childish even if its for a young audience (unlike the awfull reboot on ps4), amazing weapons (I think thats what draws me in), upgrades available with gold bolts, fun and challenging ps vita trophies. you can take screenshots at any time. I took a lot. mostly screenshots of the weapons I was using. There's a challenge mode, you collect more bolts with a multiplier to buy gold weapons, those weapons are stronger version of the ones you previously baught. And then there's the RYNO. look it up. it does lots of damage. I don't know what else to say. I really like this game.
negatives: the difficulty would change randomly, going from easy to hard. and there's no difficulty settings. so be aware. didn't like that. you don't know where chekpoints are in the first game. so it affects your gameplay. the controls are less accurate and responsive when controlling Ratchet. the last boss was too difficult. I died 50 times. mannnn was I happy when I got the trophy!

second game, ahhhh Going Commando! is a 9/10; better and improved! seriously, every flaws I found about Ratchet 1 were all fixed in this sequel, checkpoints appear on screen, Ratchet is more responsive to the analog stick
the positives: good story. there's STRAFING with rear touchpad triggers (enables you to move around your enemies, making the gameplay in combat much smoother), all the new things; arena's, where you fight in exchange of bolts, action races in exchange of bolts - you can attack opponents like in Mario Kart, space missions, spaceship upgrades and skins, armors that take some damage, the weapons in this one are different and AMAZING, your weapons level up with "volume 1,2,3,4", and there's a cool animation when they upgrade too - and you can also get back weapons from Ratchet 1 if you have the save file. but in this one they do less damage, the graphics are better in this one, Ratchet looks so cute and the whole game just looks better and beautiful. there's a lot of details in levels, the gameplay is great and smooth, to me GC set new standards to videogames, this game is creative. its not recycled things from game 1, its new things. its never repetitive, fun puzzles, cool gadgets like freezing the water and moving stuff, the platinum bolts in this one allows you to buy upgrades to your weapons like adding acid and locking on enemies features to your guns, you can take screenshots and finaly there's a set of Playstation trophies.
negatives: i thought the final boss was underwehlming. I also killed him at my third try. its very hard to collect the bolts in space missions. I'm still trying to get those last two.

The port: the port for the first two games that I've played were amazing. I feel its about 60 fps because I know I didn't experience ANY framedrop. the levels look really good. its just a really good port. So don't worry about that. I had zero problem when I was moving the camera. you don't have weird angles or anything. I'd say its near pitch perfect of the PS3 version.
I just wish the cutscenes were in HD like in the Jak and Daxter collection on PS3 and ps vita. but this is not a critic at the ps vita since it's the same on PS3. I mean they put HD on everything except in this. Its just weird. I really would have loved not watching PS2 cutscenes from the 2000's on a collection that came out around 2014... its outdated. so go figure because I don't know why they didn't do it.

This collection will make you smile, except the last game. its pretty boring and I felt like there was nothing new or exciting about Up Your Arsenal, that I experienced on ps3. but thats all. so buy it and enjoy!!!

The Ratchet and Clank Collection is a great opportunity to play the classic games.

A polished collection that every Sony fan should have in their... collection. [September 2014, p81]

They're fun, they play well, and they still feel like they're worth playing a decade after the fact. Throw in the whole on-the-go aspect you get with the Vita, and it makes it easy to recommend picking this up.

The “classic” trilogy is consisted of three of the most important action/ platforming games of all time. Look away only if you already own the PS3 version.
