    Here's the thing, though: as difficult as Life of Pixel may be, it never ceases to be fun — and I say this as someone who generally shies away from overly challenging games.

    Sure to put a smile on your face, Life of Pixel is a simple and fun adventure that's only slightly tarnished by its short lifespan and tricky levels

    It’s balls-out hard pretty much from the get go, demanding pixel-perfect (snarf) jumps and committing entire levels to memory. There’s a point where it goes from being cute to very annoying, though. [March 2013, p80]

    Life of Pixel is a likeable precision platformer with a fantastic visual style. Its gameplay is hampered by occasional areas of poor design, and the lack of leaderboards is a particularly prominent oversight, but if you're looking for a charming, challenging, and cheap title, then this is a solid choice.

It controls, feels and looks like Super Meat Boy and the retro 2D thing has been done to death by indie developers. The game looks great and the look of the different retro platforms was fun to see. Too bad by the fourth level of each platform you will say to yourself "Really?" The developers must have thought it would be fun to play a level 1000 times to complete it requiring ludicrous precise timing. Other than that it is a lot of fun and good price until it gets to a point where it isn't fun anymore.… Full Review »

So please, once you're done reading this mini review, fire up your Vita (or 'Playstation certified device'), head over to the Playstation Mobile store, and download Life of Pixel without delay. Once you've sampled it's frankly wonderful wares, you'll no doubt concur that Life of Pixel is a genuinely unique retro-flavoured affair. Where pretty much every other pixel art scroller out there endeavours to look, feel and play like *a* console from yesteryear, what makes Super Icon's labour of love so very special, is that their game looks, feels and plays like EIGHT of yesteryears most celebrated and adored nostalgia-boxes. Yup, Life of Pixel takes protagonist 'Pixel' on a journey that kicks things off with a bunch of levels that beautifully mimc the Sinclair ZX81 (my first ever computer!), passes through the likes of Atari 2600 and Commadore 64, before finally rounding things off with Nintendo's NES. And wow, what a journey it is. Each generation contains eight levels that not only look just like they were plucked from the machine they represent, with properly old skool difficulty (i.e. tough as hell), they feel absolutely like them too. And you know what, with the possible exception of Super Crate Box, I can't think of a better Playstation Mobile title with which to hone ones platforming skills. But wait, the good news doesn't end there, because this charming little slice of pure nostalgia will only set you back a meagre £1.59 (that's $1.99 US). I know right!! For that ridiculously low back of the sofa, loose change price of entry, Life of Pixel rewards you with 64 uber-addictive levels, beautiful retro aesthetics, and joyful chiptune sounds, with a free history lesson thrown in for good measure. If you're yet to download Life of Pixel, I urge you to do so now. Considering the price, is there really any accuse not to? 8.5 out of 10.… Full Review »

Tying up simple platforming with challenging mechanics to give an overall feel of achievement when completing a level. Its levels replicate that of the machines they are trying to copy perfectly. From colour pallet to themes. What will frustrate however is Life of Pixels difficulty and fiddly screen transitions between one area to the next. When both combine into one they can cause pure frustration. Overall though Life of Pixel is a worthy PSVita title and is one that deserves as much attention as any other.… Full Review »
