For a free-to-play title, this isn't bad. There are certainly opportunities to pour some small amounts of $$ into the developer, but for the most part, with a little patience, you can play this challenging match-3 game for hours for free. Graphics: It looks pretty good all things considered. The match 3 gems on the side of the screen look how you'd expect and the fighting soldiers on the side are well done.

Story/Characters: The story if there is any just seems to be the same story from previous Fat Princess games "There are the bad guys, lets fight them" which is fine while games are definitely capable of great stories

Game Play: is actually pretty good, okay I mean its simplistic and there's not much to it outside of the typical game play you'd expect from any match 3 game but it does that formula pretty well. You've got 4 soldier types Cleric, Warrior, Archer, and Worker who all do different things when there shapes are matched up there's actually a fair amount of strategy but it definitely has the same aspect I hate in ALL match 3 games and that is the game is also very reliant on luck and because of this can be very hard and leads to a ton of grinding earlier stages to upgrade your soldiers with coins. Unless you want to spend money to upgrade them faster which would make the game easier.

Verdict: For a free-to-play its still very fun and worth a look if you don't mind grinding or spending money on micro-transactions. I will say it's probably the most fun I have had with a match 3 game.

Doesn't feel like a free game, plays and looks like a 10 dollar game. The Stamina points needed to attempt each stage regenerate quickly, so for someone who only plays on the Vita for short periods of time anyways its perfect.
Its a bit more strategic than some other match 3 games, matching 3 of a color either activates one of 4 units in your squad which each have a different attack

Its a bit more strategic than some other match 3 games, matching 3 of a color either activates one of 4 units in your squad which each have a different attack pattern or heal your units, or feeds cake to Princess. When Princess has had enough cake she can be activated for, *ahem*, 'heavy" damage.
Each successfully completed stage will reward you with any "gems" collected in the stage as well as a spin on a wheel that could award you with powerful single use items or even more gems.
Some stages have unique variables increasing the challenge and adds to the variety of what could otherwise get stale. Sometimes there is a pattern outlining where on the board a match 3 will count or not count, sometimes there are 'tower' pieces that appear on the board that cant match with anything, but if you can get it to the bottom, it will help in other ways.
It really is charming, fun, and surprisingly deep.

Fat Princess: Piece of Cake should have been a tasty little time filler, but it's saddled with a sickly stamina system and a repugnant pricing model that only a royal could reasonably afford.
