While what you do is adequately diverting, it's why you do it that keeps you coming back. [May 2016, p.92]

The game looks fantastic and feels like it was designed specifically for the PS Vita. Capturing the essence of what Digimon is, Cyber Sleuth is the Digimon game fans have been waiting for.

It's not perfect, but it is absolutely fantastic in my opinion. I loved Digimon World Dusk when I was younger and Cyber Sleuth is a massive improvement over the previous Digimon Story games. The graphics are beautiful, and the soundtrack can be a little repetitive at times but luckily it sounds nice enough that this wasn't a problem for me. The combat is simple enough and the attack animations (and the animations in general) are well done. It was extremely tempting to try out all of a Digimon's possible evolutions and build a perfect team (and with about 250 Digimon that can all be found in-game, the goal of collecting all of them is more easily attainable than in, say, Pokémon). The translation can be a bit poor at times and I'm not sure how to feel about the lack of English audio, but considering the game only ever got localized because so many fans wanted it as soon as possible, I'm willing to let those things slide. There are some weird inconsistencies like certain quests being absent from the Western versions of the game but hopefully this will be rectified in the future. Additionally, the differences between the (retail) PS4 version and the PS Vita version (in regards to price + "preorder" DLC), though understandable, could be frustrating. But overall, I do not at all regret buying this game and I hope we get to see more titles localized soon. Full Review »

This game is not it. But that doesn't mean it's bad.

The game's battles are the standard RPG turn-based affair. Which seem to be harder to come across, so this was actually a selling point for me. The story is mature for a Digimon game, and while the translation can be iffy, it generally comes across pretty well.
Pretty graphics, a good art style, nice electronic/rock/jazzy music, it all comes together to be a pretty good atmospherically.

Really, more than anything else, the game reminds me of what Persona 3/4 could have been like without the social links. Which I'd say is a mild compliment at least.

If you're a fan, I say go for it. If not, then watch some videos, if it looks appealing, chances are you'll still have a good time.
