The overriding focus of any point-and-click adventure game has to be on the excellence of the story, well fleshed-out characters, as well as puzzles that are germane to the story and enhance it. On all these counts, I believe Demetrios delivers, notwithstanding a few minor stumbles. It is particularly welcome on the Vita platform, which lacks a wider range of games in this genre. The game runs smoothly with minimal loading times, and the bubble icon looks very cool indeed, to boot.

The humor is why I stayed up late playing, and it’s that humor that prods me to recommend this title to Vita owners. Even if you don’t like toilet humor, which did get rather old about halfway through, there is an option to cut it down or remove it entirely. It’s still just as funny without it. The important thing to remember about this Big Cynical Adventure is to not expect a deep story throughout. It’s about as deep as a toilet.

I don't think target audiences get any more specific than they do with Demetrios – The Big Cynical Adventure. As far as I can tell, it's for fans of the Broken Sword series who wish that those games took themselves way less seriously and included way, way more scatalogical humour.

Overall, Demetrios is a well-crafted game with a good deal of content. If you’re into Adventure games and/or toilet humor, you’ll find something well worth playing in Demetrios. It’s not quite as crude as, say, Leisure Suit Larry, but it’s certainly not as lighthearted as other Adventure games on the market. If you’re not into Adventure games, I don’t see this as being the game to change your opinion. While it is well written and chock-full of humorous quips, its core systems do little to separate it from or elevate within the dated genre.

Good old-school adventure gameplay with very little else to be admired in its other aspects. For those who love unabashed, lowbrow humor, Demetrios might be the game for you. But if compelling narratives and likeable characters are more your thing, perhaps you should look somewhere else.

The big adventure of Demetrios isn’t all that cynical, but it certainly is forgettable. I can’t say the game is bad, because it’s not, but also I certainly wouldn’t tell you it’s good. Instead, it’s nothing more than a name added to a list of titles I’ve beaten, and it will never be anything more than that.
