Jan 13, 2025Until Dawn is one of my favourite games of all time and thankfully Ballistic Moon have managed to craft a remake that keeps everything I love so dearly about the original. Great story additions add to an already brilliant horror tale, whilst small but impactful gameplay additions help keep the game fresh. Stunning visuals and voice work remain, along with strong sound design and score. It’s just a shame framerate issues take away from overall presentation and a truly baffling decision by Sony to price this game as a full price AAA game will stop old and new players from enjoying this seminal tale. But for me, this remains the king of narrative horror. See you at dawn!

Oct 10, 2024The first difficult decision players must make is whether or not to purchase Until Dawn Remaster. I'd argue that those that never experienced the original should certainly pick up this game. This is a remaster that successfully breathes new life into the 2015 original. Apart from some shaky frames, Until Dawn Remaster excels in just about everything it set out to do, and I believe justifies its existence. I'd also argue that those that have already experienced this adventure will be able to find new enjoyment here, albeit at a lower price point.
-
Oct 7, 2024The remastered Until Dawn for PS5 retains its original charm while enhancing accessibility and visuals, although some fans may miss the original's blue filter. While it doesn't introduce significant new content or a performance boost, it offers a polished experience worth exploring, especially for newcomers.
-
Oct 7, 2024Everyone has been up in arms as of late over Sony’s reliance on remasters and remakes, and I get it. Such projects should never outweigh or replace originality and innovation. That being said, Until Dawn is one such IP that I’m glad hasn’t been left to, like poor Hannah and Beth, wither away. Ballistic Moon has rid the game of its outdated tendencies, creating something that is far more grounded, detailed, and immersive. Perhaps a remake wasn’t ‘necessary’ but is any game ‘necessary’? The prevalence of Until Dawn’s wendigo spirit on the mountain, including Josh’s potential post-credits transformation, always left me thinking that the game, as a franchise, had more mileage in its tank. If Ballistic Moon’s remake has got more people on board with that thought process then I can only be wholly grateful that it exists.
-
Oct 7, 2024It’s a remake that knows what we want and gives it to us, instead of instituting needless changes. What changes there are are often subtle, or add to the game instead of detracting from it. This isn’t a remake to play if you want something drastically different, but if you want a more interactive approach to movie night, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better (or season-appropriate) option.
-
Oct 4, 2024Even though nearly a decade has passed since Until Dawn first spooked and tore its way onto PlayStation consoles, its keenly judged take on the teen slasher trope together with convincing voice actor performances and non-linear narrative still remain appealing - and arguably sit at the apex of anything developer Supermassive Games has created. Of course, if you were indifferent to Until Dawn when it originally released, this shiny new 2024 edition will do precious little to change your mind. For everyone else however, Until Dawn's PS5 outing represents the definitive version of one of the most effective horror titles released in the last console generation.
-
Oct 4, 2024The remake of Until Dawn stays true to the essence of the original while delivering a much-needed modernization for today’s gaming standards. The stunning graphical overhaul significantly heightens the realism, making the story more immersive and the horror more palpable. Enhanced camera angles refine the gameplay, adding a smoother experience during key moments. While returning players might find the updates limited in terms of new content, those who are discovering this horror classic for the first time are in for an unforgettable experience.
-
Oct 15, 2024With a strong focus on visual upgrades, this rebuilt take of the 2015 horror romp can feel more like a remaster than a remake. Still, if you've never played the original – or you're a seasoned Blackwood Mountain survivor seeking the game's definitive version – Until Dawn is an easy recommendation.
-
Oct 11, 2024Ballistic Moon has done a pretty good job with its take on Until Dawn, with improved camera angles, gorgeous visuals, and new scenes.
-
Oct 10, 2024Until Dawn remains a fantastic horror game with great acting and plenty of jump scares to get you out of your seat. While not essential for anyone that enjoyed the original game, this remake brings it to a new audience and is a solid update to what was already a great game.
-
Oct 8, 2024Until Dawn is a beautiful remake, but feels a bit redundant for fans of the original. With beautiful, vibrant environments, realistic detail, cinematic music, more engaging lore, expanded exploration options and a single new ending, the remake does feel like a ‘complete’ version of Until Dawn. For newcomers it is certainly recommended, but with no cheap upgrade, new choices, gameplay improvements or real surprise elements, there is little reason for players of the 2015 game to return.
-
Oct 8, 2024Speaking as someone who has played Until Dawn on PS4 many, many times and counts it as one of their favourite games — while I won't go so far as to say that I like this new version more than the original, I certainly don't like it less either. Both versions have their minor pros and cons when compared with one another, but in the end, it's all Until Dawn: a game that is simply too good and too important to be locked away and left behind as a relic of a bygone console generation.
-
Oct 7, 2024This new version of Until Dawn for PS5 and PC certainly impresses with its enhanced visuals, but other changes will likely prove to be hit or miss with fans. In any case, this remains an excellent cinematic horror game with a gripping story and an interesting cast of characters. It's just a shame that an upgrade isn't available for PS4 owners of the game, and that new features such as local multiplayer haven't been added.
-
Oct 7, 2024Until Dawn is a thrilling experience. For horror fans, this will be one of the best horror experiences that gaming has seen in years. It’s a perfect balance of story telling and gameplay and doesn’t drag on at all. I constantly found myself wanting to go back to find out what happened next which is rare in gaming narrative. Those looking for constant action may be disappointed, but I’d advise anybody who wants a unique and new experience to give it a go.
-
Oct 7, 2024When you look at it as a standalone game, the Until Dawn Remake has a lot going for it. Its 4K graphics and improved lighting, seamless scene-to-gameplay action thanks to the PS5’s SSD, the usage of the DualSense’s full immersive suite of features, the enhanced audio profile, the tweaked camera angle, and the reworked scenes too all make this a quality horror experience and reaffirm Until Dawn as Supermassive’s best project so far.
-
Oct 7, 2024Though it's hard not to see the validity of criticisms over its pricing and and questions over whether it even needed to be made, the Until Dawn remake is ultimately a solid and enhanced new version of a modern horror classic.
-
Oct 7, 2024Until Dawn returns taking advantage of all the muscle of PS5 and current PCs. A horror game that we fell in love with in 2015 and now, almost 10 years later, still works just as well. Eight playable characters, many mysteries to discover and a story that branches according to our decisions are still the basis of a proposal that exploits the theory of chaos and the butterfly effect to the fullest. Some old mistakes come back with all the goodies and many improvements to create the best version of the game that we can play today.
-
Oct 6, 2024Until Dawn remains a remarkable work, just like the original, but this new version should have been a gift to all owners of the game that Supermassive Games released in 2015. A reduced price for the PC version and an upgrade for PS5 would have made more sense than the €70 outlay that it requires to simply look better.
-
Oct 5, 2024The update of Until Dawn for PS5 and PC is not a bad game: it shines visually, despite flaws such as exaggerated gestures, stuttering or not passing 30 fps, leaving a visual feast more realistic than on PS4. Too bad the price is not more adjusted, like other remakes or remasters, because the perception of many players would change.
-
Oct 7, 2024Until Dawn remains a great adventure that feels like a teenie-slasher movie you can play yourself. Beside some technically issues it looks great within the new engine, but does not improve enough to make it a worth buy if you already played the PS4 original. But if you didn't play it yet, like the Quantic-Dream-like gameplay concept and horror movies as well, you are going to enjoy the remastered version from the start to the end.
-
Oct 27, 2024Almost everything I would like to get from a remake is indeed present here, and even more: much better graphics, a very important fixes of the camera movement, a new soundtrack, a facelift for all the menus and even new scenes. The problem is, if you've already played the original game, the remake isn't worth your money, unless your memory is completely wiped and then the lack of replayability value isn't that critical. But if you haven't played the original - it's an excellent, exciting and scary game for fans of the horror genre and choice-based games. I want to believe that the developers are working on fixing things like the crashes and bugs of all kinds, because you can clearly see that a lot of love was put into this remake and there is no reason why they won't continue to improve it.
-
Oct 9, 2024Until Dawn is an unnecessary remake because the original game still feels fresh, and it offers few new options. It has improved graphics, updated mechanics, and better accessibility options, but it's still the same game from ten years ago with a higher price tag. It's recommended for those who haven't played it, but it could have been a simple visual update at a lower price.
-
Oct 7, 2024The Until Dawn remake is a bit of a mixed bag overall. While it breathes new life into a beloved horror classic, offering a revamped experience, it also loses sight of some of what made the original so special. It’s a splendid upgrade in some areas and a massive downgrade in others. Find out for yourself if you can stomach the horrific asking price.
-
Oct 15, 2024Rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, Until Dawn Remake looks better, but there is room for improvement in regard of performance.
-
Dec 2, 2024This remake of Until Dawn feels more like a remaster than a true remake, despite its notable enhancements. For those who played the original, justifying the purchase of this version may be difficult, although it could be considered the definitive edition for new players.
-
Oct 23, 2024The Until Dawn remake is a fantastic horror game for anyone who missed it the first time. Influencing the story through butterfly effects and seeing the consequences is horrific. The game’s improved graphics really drive home the horror even if you know what is coming. But for veterans, some aspects of the game became worse with time. There’s not enough to bring you back if you already played the original, but it’s a good choice to recommend to newcomers.
-
Oct 21, 2024Overall, the Until Dawn remake is a stunning game, however it does have its flaws which will hopefully be corrected with future updates. Gamers playing it for the first time will enjoy the storytelling and structure of the game, and those returning will appreciate many of the upgrades and added scenes. I can’t say if it was a necessary remake as the original game is only nine years old and still holds up, and at this point I recommend holding off on purchasing it until the price gets an adjustment and the current glitches are corrected.
-
Oct 16, 2024After completing the Remake and revisiting the classic, it became even more difficult to understand the purpose of a new version. It's hard to find a justification for recreating such a recent game. Even more so when the original version is as good, if not better (in some aspects), than the new game. Until Dawn is good and worth playing, it's just not worth the full price investment when the classic edition is still competent.
-
Oct 15, 2024While Until Dawn remains Supermassive’s best rendition of its choice-driven horror games, this remake (a term that feels generous) feels like nothing but a cash grab and a move to fatten the PS5 game catalogue given you can buy the still perfectly fine original for $25 and there’s no upgrade option for existing owners. However, if this is your first night on Blackwood Pines Mountain, this new version is a great way to experience the game, but it will come at a cost.
-
Oct 15, 2024Until Dawn remains entertaining thanks to its gameplay, which features branching paths and decisions from the original. However, aside from its graphical overhaul, there is little incentive to purchase it, especially when the new graphics sacrifice its eerie atmosphere and framerate. Opting for the original is better if you have yet to experience this winter nightmare.
-
Oct 11, 2024Quotation forthcoming.
-
Pocket-lintOct 10, 2024The $59.99 price tag is noticeably steep for what's unquestionably a fresh coat of paint on an already modern cinematic game.
-
Oct 9, 2024Until Dawn for PS5 is very much for a specific audience. Despite its technical issues, it is the way to go for those looking for the newest or best-looking way to play the classic horror game. For anyone else, the original holds up just fine.
-
Oct 9, 2024Soundtrack changes, the cheaper price, and PS5's backward compatibility make it easy to recommend the original Until Dawn over the remake, but the remake is still a high-quality game. It looks incredible, the Until Dawn story is still a thrilling time, and there is some worthwhile new content to seek out. However, $59.99 is a steep asking price for what's on offer. PC-only gamers may want to consider taking the plunge, but those on PlayStation might be better served sticking with the original and looking up the new ending.
-
Oct 8, 2024If you've never played Until Dawn, go for it! Even if the price tag is still a bit high considering the changes. It's still one of the most beloved horror production, even after ten years, and his deserves his fame. It's, by far, the most good looking version available (PS5, PC) with huge improvements. If you've ever been on that ghost train, which successfully exploits the slasher genre, wait for a price drop. A pleasant remaster, yes, but not a complete remake.
-
Oct 7, 2024The new edition of Until Dawn has a clear purpose: to reach new audiences, both on PS5 and PC, and test the waters to see if the title has the potential to become a franchise. However, for those who already know the story or played the original, the changes definitely aren't worth the extra money.
-
Oct 29, 2024The remake of Until Dawn features enhanced graphics but retains the sometimes groan-worthy dialogue of the original. And the controls can be wonky: I couldn’t even shine a flashlight on a sign on a dark road.
-
Oct 18, 2024Until Dawn Remake is a rather lazy remake of the now iconic PS4-era video game cult: the narrative additions appear superfluous and even anticlimactic, while the graphic modernization operation leaves itself open to too many qualitative oscillations, between excessively loaded facial expressions and still stiff animations. Playing Until Dawn today, for fans of the "teen horror" genre, still represents an interesting rediscovery, for a title that still manages to entertain thanks to the unpredictability of its narrative twists.
-
Oct 18, 2024If you haven't played Until Dawn before, then sure, go ahead and pick this up. But for those who have played this before I see no reason to pay full price when it's pretty much the same game. While some of the updates to graphics are nice, there really isn't any thing new here that is worth the price of this remake.
-
Oct 11, 2024Whether you're a horror fan or not, the PS5 version of Until Dawn is still not made for you. There's no way to recommend a remake that hardly justifies its existence, especially in an apparently incomplete state, where bugs and outdated facial expressions are too frustrating. Positive points go to the gameplay and additional content, but the overall value for money is far below expectations.
-
Oct 9, 2024There was no need for a remake of Until Dawn, especially at this price. However, the graphical upgrade is undeniable, and the new free camera allows for greater exploration.
-
Oct 8, 2024Until Dawn is a remake that does not improve on the original work and does not modernize the game in any way. The only bright spot is the switch to Unreal Engine 5, but the game structure remains old and looks unsuitable for modern audience.
-
Oct 9, 2024Finding the right “number” for Until Dawn Remake is a complex balancing act. On the one hand we have an adventure that works and is entertaining, on the other a re-release that raises eyebrows quite a bit. Taking into account the quality of the work it is impossible to go below the sufficiency, but it is equally impossible to go higher, considering that the original version costs less than a third and, in terms of gaming experience, does not have any substantial difference.
-
Oct 31, 2024The most unnecessary remake of this generation. While the graphics have improved, the controls have not improved at all and feel sluggish. Skip this one and enjoy the much cheaper original version.
-
Oct 27, 2024Back in 2015, Until Dawn would have made a bigger impact for its bold movie-like experience but now, it certainly falls a bit flat.
-
Oct 22, 2024It is a weird package that feels like it made decisions to feel different as opposed to making it a better experience. I loved the original game; I still feel it is the best Supermassive game of this type. This remake feels unnecessary and at times worse than what is already available on the PS5 patch. I am all for remakes and remasters when they give players a chance to check out games not available on that platform. Until Dawn Remake is neither of those things and in fact is a worse experience than the game already available.
-
Oct 21, 2024Beneath the new engine and slightly enhanced graphics lies the same game from 2015, with all its strengths and weaknesses remaining largely unchanged. As a horror slasher, Until Dawn is solidly average, and as an interactive cinematic adventure, it still offers a decent experience—but nothing more than that.
-
Oct 21, 2024The new Until Dawn offers visual upgrades and a few additional scenes, but at its core, it remains the same game as the original 2015 version. Unstable 30 FPS and a high price make this upgrade hard to justify, especially if you already own the game. Unless you're a die-hard fan or waiting for a discount, I recommend sticking with the original version.
-
Oct 17, 2024So why only three stars? Basically, this is a remake of a PlayStation 4 game from 2015, which you could have long bought for next to nothing. This new version looks even better and adds some bells and whistles, but too little to justify the $70 price tag. Many other games from that era were upgraded for the PlayStation 5, costing a dozen euros or often even free. To charge full price for this is money-grubbing.
-
Oct 15, 2024While the story is strong, the suspense is there well and the visual revamp does the game justice, the main question remains: was this remake really necessary? The awkward controls and technical shortcomings here and there also don't make it a very strong execution and otherwise there is little new under the sun. In terms of gameplay, there is little wrong with it, but if you have played or own the original, this release is a completely unnecessary buy.
-
Oct 9, 2024Until Dawn is a remake that modernizes the original, with a visual reconstruction that intensifies the emotional connection with the characters. Although it has technical problems, such as frame drops, the dynamics of the choices keep the player immersed in the story.
-
Oct 7, 2024Until Dawn Remake is a painful reminder that change isn’t always good. A poor totem system, bad performance and clunky controls really hold it back from joining other great remakes of late.
-
Oct 7, 2024Until Dawn for PS5 is still the excellent original game, but the remake operation is not worth the price. The frame rate is to be improved, the graphical jump is good but not huge, and the new camera takes away from the original directorial feel of the video game and turns it into just another action video game.
-
Oct 6, 2024Until Dawn drags a contemporary classic into a new generation, and its interactive teen slasher silliness more than holds up today. With vastly enhanced graphics and minor gameplay tweaks, this is still a highly recommended game. The problem is it costs three times as much as its nine-year-old predecessor, and doesn’t have an upgrade path. For all of its grisly glamour, that makes this remake a tough sell – especially when it runs at half the frame rate of its predecessor when played using PS5 backwards compatibility.
-
Oct 9, 2024A bafflingly pointless remake, that absolutely no one asked for, and which manages to introduce a number of new flaws while completely failing to justify its own existence.
-
Oct 9, 2024This remade version of Until Dawn features a substantial visual upgrade that bring it in line with some of the best-looking horror adventures on the PlayStation 5, and Supermassive’s definitive horror story is just as gory and schlocky as it’s ever been. However, its cinematic flair is slightly undermined by the new over-the-shoulder camera, and it suffers at the hands of a frame rate that’s choppier than even the most caffeinated of axe murderers. Movement is noticeably slower and more sluggish than it used to be, and the handful of new gameplay features – like the pointless totem-turning mini-game – are unwelcome and don’t even come close to justifying this remake’s premium price tag especially when the original is sitting right there next to it in the store. Never mind the eight potential victims to be found inside its cabin in the woods, if you’re still determined to play this half-hearted horror remake you should at least wait until it’s the price that is slashed instead.
-
Oct 4, 2024The issue here is that Until Dawn didn’t need a remaster. Or a remake. I would wholeheartedly recommend everyone reading this buy and play the 2015 original, and I would equally recommend you banish this remake from your mind to never think of again.

Oct 29, 2024It has more changes than we expected, but not all works better than original game.
