One of the best games I have ever played. Great puzzle designs, endless secrets, great experience for those who enjoy a mental challenge!

This game is incredible. The art style, atmosphere, world and gameplay is all to a really high standard. I'd like to comment on what some people are saying in negative reviews.

Game lacks directions: yes, the game doesn't spoon feed you everything you need to know directly, but everything you do need to know is provided to you in discovered manual pages and really rewards exploration.

Game lacks directions: yes, the game doesn't spoon feed you everything you need to know directly, but everything you do need to know is provided to you in discovered manual pages and really rewards exploration. There were a few times I was stuck, not knowing what to do next, but I figured out what to do next fairly quickly after inspecting the manual pages I had found. The game is a puzzle game for gods sake, and people are raging when it prompts them to actually use their brain.

Game is too hard: Look, it is tough, but it's also fair. You find multiple weapons to help and most enemies can be exploited. You can also run past most enemies and also make yourself invincible in the settings.

Endgame puzzles are obtuse: Yeah, they are. If anyone get 100% in this game without a guide I'd be impressed, some of them are really hard to figure out and require insane inputs. Regardless though, the vast majority of the obtuse puzzles are completely optional and have not tainted my scoring of the game.

This is up there with Dead Cells, Hades and Hollow Knight.

    THE ADVENTURE BEGINS
Tunic starts very simple way; you wake up in a shore. Soon, I found a stick that I could defend myself from enemies. Very soon after finding the stick I got my sword and shield. Now the real gameplay could begin.

Tunic is very simple in many ways. It won’t tell player anything, there’s no subtitles. There is text, but it’s gibberish. Some English words can be found here and there, but mostly it’s just some unknown language. Player can find pieces of manual book that reveals new moves or things to do (that were there already, but I didn’t know about them) and the gameplay gets more depth or new paths can be opened.

The gameplay is very simple. I can hit or shoot enemies with weapons, throw bombs, heal myself, dodge, use shield. I had also stamina and magic meter. But I did die a lot. The game is difficult and the boss fights are even more harder. Thankfully the game has “No Fail Mode”, meaning, a mode that I couldn’t die. I also had unlitmited stamina in the settings. Shamelessly, I did use them when the game got too hard for me.

In Tunic what I mostly had to do, was to do some missions like ring the bells in various areas and ultimately collect three stones. It was very vage what these tasks did to the world and its habitants, but after opening one area I could continue my journey and so forth.

Story-wise I couldn’t tell much about Tunic. Since there wasn’t English language much to be read, but there was a few big twist I liked a lot.

All the music in the game was very well made and I could easily hear The Legend Of Zelda inspiration in them.

Boss fights were well made and they were difficult for me, so I did beat most of them using “No Fail Mode”. But the game has New Game+ which will let you keep most of the items you collected from the first playthrough.

    THE LAST WORDS
Tunic is one of my favourite games. I never play games like Demons Souls, Bloodborne or Elden Ring because they are too hard for evereyday gamer like me. Tunic offers something that I enjoyed: immortality mode. The gameplay, discovering the world and uncovering its secrets, the graphics and music, all did made me enjoy my playthrough.

For the puzzle lovers like me this game is a true gem.

At first i hate this game because of its combats, but at the end, i discover the invincibility mode, and it was a relief. All i have to do was to find out how to crack the riddles and it is a pure pleasure.

Thanks to to the team of dev.

Oh my this is a clever little game. A indie masterpiece. But I must admit it took maybe an hour before I started to understand what was so great with this game. But when I was over the threshold I was stuck.

And those highs are indeed very high. The excitement of solving mysteries and unraveling the world of this game has been some of the most fun I've had with a game all year. However, it doesn't always hit its mark, and many of its mysteries end up more frustrating than fun. Some of the late game secrets in particular require long code inputs that often left me scratching my head and searching forums, only to realize I had simply messed up one in a long series of button presses.

Additionally, many players will be put off by the difficulty of some of the bosses. There is a "no fail" mode that you can turn on to effectively skip certain fights, but this isn't some really a "feels good" solution for players looking for some challenge without a lot of frustration. I yearn for the day when we can just have difficulty options as standard in games again.

So, in sum, I recommend this game strongly for those consumers looking for that sense of wonder and nastolgia, especially for those looking to recapture the feelings they once got from games like Zelda 1 and 3. Just know that in the later parts of the game you should prepare for significant frustrations both due to combat difficulty and obscure puzzles that virtually necesitate using a guide.

A game that sits with dignity in my rankings right next to my favourite games like FEZ, Zelda, Hyper light drifter, Dark souls.
A similar successful game has been Deaths's Door recently, but Tunic is a bit more fun and deeper thanks to more secrets.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A very fun game to play. I love the puzzle and world building, sometimes the boss can be a bit difficult but nothing excessive.

One of my favorite aspects of the game is its in-game manual system. People getting into the game will start to find these manual pages across its world that give people a bit information but otherwise written in an unrecognizable gibberish script, making it becoming part of the puzzle itself. This was done in other games but imo this is one of the finest artificial script design in my gaming history.

When I first found that I was wondering whether this script will eventually become decodable, and that question and the drive to answer that eventually consists a big part of the game's attraction.

Some spoilers especially for linguistic puzzling lovers:

That does come with a downside though. English is the canonical language to play this game, for people not speaking English or not playing the game in English the extent the game can reach would be different.

Tunic, like all good Zeldalikes, is really about the hero’s journey, from a shaky start to the savior of a mystical island in tiny increments. With every stumble and fall, a lesson is learned; each new page of the manual, every new piece of equipment, and every little victory slowly amounts to something much greater. It in some ways a meditative game, but it’s also one packed full of satisfying challenges and hard-fought battles. If you have fond memories of adventuring in a green tunic, I couldn’t recommend slipping on this particular garment enough.

If you’re a fan of exploration and puzzle-based adventure games, then playing Tunic is a no-brainer. While it does have elements of Souls games, it has more elements from The Legend of Zelda series and lots of elements from other genres as well. What makes Tunic unique is the way it gives the player items and abilities, without fully explaining them at first, and allowing the player to experiment while exploring its world. Retro players who love cryptic NES titles of yesteryear take note, this might be a GOTY contender for you.
