Nov 4, 2025Taking everything that made the first one enjoyable but clanky, Tormented Souls 2 is a refinement in every sense. A more cohesive narrative (when it gets rolling), better combat and a much nicer presentation, it's a great continuation for the retro-inspired series. A bit obtuse in places, it nonetheless will scratch that itch for the older Resident Evil and Silent Hill fans.

Nov 2, 2025Tormented Souls 2 is the kind of horror game you like to see from independent developers. As a clear passion project that is willing to push back against “best practices” to maintain the creative vision, it’s here for people who have fond memories of the formative years of survival horror, while also looking very modern. It’s by no means perfect, but the clear enthusiasm that went into it – and the fact that it’s so atmospheric – makes it compelling.
-
Nov 3, 2025An overall improvement over the first game, Tormented Souls 2 stands as a heartfelt ode to the golden era of survival horror. It pays loving homage to Resident Evil and Silent Hill (among others), offering a satisfying variety of clever puzzles, diverse environments, and unsettling enemies. Hopefully, in time, some of its debilitating technical issues will be ironed out.
-
Oct 26, 2025This sequel successfully refines its predecessor with better visuals, smoother controls, and an intense atmosphere, offering dozens of clever puzzles and satisfying exploration, though its combat and bosses remain weak points in an otherwise superbly crafted old-school survival horror.
-
Nov 5, 2025Tormented Souls 2 isn’t a rip-off - it’s a rebellion. It boldly and successfully reminds us that true horror doesn’t come from endless obstacles, but from relentless tension, puzzles that demand real thought, and the unsettling feeling of being alone in the dark with something you’re not supposed to see.
-
Oct 28, 2025Tormented Souls 2 is a love letter to the survival horror genre that major companies abandoned years ago. Although many players won’t be able to stand its deliberately old-school approach due to the clunky combat and complex puzzles, those who dare to give it a shot will find a game with excellent atmosphere that dares to challenge the player and be truly terrifying.
-
Oct 26, 2025Tormented Souls 2 gets the visuals right, but loses its soul. The title is still a good classic survival horror experience, and despite significant technical advancements, the script falters, and the story degenerates into something more generic until its final minutes.
-
Oct 24, 2025A beautifully crafted survival horror game that knowingly harkens back to the original Resident Evil, while adding in some sympathetically designed modern touches.
-
Nov 4, 2025Tormented Souls 2 shows once again that developer Dual Effect can craft an impressive time capsule back to the horror classics of the 90s. While carefully modernized in some regards, such as adding more forgiving difficulty options that include auto-saves, it remains a highlight for those who miss the old school horror of Silent Hill and early Resident Evils. Though the very same adherence to classic game design and tropes may scare off those accustomed to the modern iterations of those series.
-
Dec 5, 2025Tormented Souls 2 delivers a tense, retro-inspired survival horror experience that successfully builds on its predecessor. Fast-paced combat, clever boss encounters, and a larger, more varied world elevate the series, while resource scarcity and strategic inventory management keep the tension high. Balance issues, occasional bugs, and a few pacing problems prevent it from being flawless, but fans of classic survival horror and the first game will find plenty to enjoy.
-
Nov 12, 2025Another old-school survival horror game, for better or worse. If you love fixed camera angles, pre-rendered backgrounds, limited saves, and constant tension, you can safely add half a point to the final rating. Technically, it's a step up from the previous installment, with excellent, detailed locations, atmospheric and crystal-clear sound, and responsive controls. Animations and poly-models aren't top-notch, but you can't have everything.
-
Oct 31, 2025Tormented Souls 2 builds upon the foundation of its predecessor with smoother controls, improved pacing, and an atmosphere that successfully captures the essence of classic survival horror. Despite predictable environments and some rough edges in puzzles and combat, it’s a confident follow-up that proves the series can stand on its own moving forward.
-
Oct 24, 2025Tormented Souls 2 manages to refine its deep and sincere homage to the great classic survival horror games. At times, it would have been nice to see a little more of its own originality, but what it does do is tasteful and of sufficient quality to establish itself as a game capable of winning over the most nostalgic fans.
-
Dec 1, 2025Tormented Souls 2 does a good job emulating the survival horror greats that came before, ensuring that younger players are able to experience the older style of gameplay even as bigger brands continue in other directions. It certainly has a learning curve for newcomers, but those who persevere will discover why the genre was so popular during the 90s and 2000s.
-
Oct 23, 2025Tormented Souls 2, like its predecessor, offers some solid survival horror action inspired by classics of the genre. Some might find dealing with or avoiding enemies a bit frustrating at times though, and a number of its puzzles could be considered a little too obtuse for comfort.
-
Mar 26, 2026Despite all its flaws, Tormented Souls 2 may still appeal to nostalgic players who miss the classic survival horror games. That said, it doesn’t make up for the game’s script flaws, its unintuitive gameplay, and its predictable jump scares, which get lost amid an excellent atmosphere.
