Feb 13, 2024Tomb Raider I-III Remastered enables long time fans to relive the golden days of the franchise with a gorgeous new coat of paint without compromising the player's nostalgia. However, gameplay mechanics have been deliberately kept as they were back then, which might push away potential new players who aren't familiar with the original games. Master the controls, and you are guaranteed to have a great time.
-
Feb 13, 2024Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft is a superb collection of some of the PSOne's best adventure games. Whether you're a newcomer or veteran fan, the games remain hugely enjoyable and challenging, and the extra improvements really shine, particularly if you're new to the series and are intimidated by the old-school mechanics. Dive in and discover Lara Croft at her very best.
-
Feb 13, 2024I'm obsessed with this remastered collection of the first 3 Tomb Raider games as it does an amazing job of bringing the action-adventure classics back to life with a big graphical overhaul while maintaining absolutely everything that make the games so much fun.
-
Feb 23, 2024Tomb Raider I-III Remastered is, most likely, what fans were hoping to be able to play, sooner or later. A superbly crafted compilation, respectful of the original material, capable of allowing us to relive all the typically '90s feeling of Lara Croft's first three adventures.
-
Feb 13, 2024The iconic Lara Croft returns in a series of lovingly crafted remasters of her first three adventures. Tomb Raider I-III Remastered features not only the base version of all three games, but also the full expansions which were previously unavailable on the PS1, providing an incredible amount of content for a bargain price. Upgraded character models and lighting, a photo mode, and optional quality-of-life improvements help round out a collection which would have been worthwhile without the graphical upgrade. Unfortunately, a few control, lighting, and camera issues do occasionally arise, dampening what is otherwise a great collection.
-
Mar 15, 2024Aspyr has done an excellent job preserving three of the most important, and timeless, examples of early 3D gaming. Tomb Raider I-III Remastered may largely be a greatest hits set for existing fans, but it’s a comprehensive bundle whose new visuals and updated control schemes are nice options to introduce the original series to the uninitiated.
-
Feb 14, 2024Some dated game design cannot be painted over, however all other aspects from visuals, to lighting and controls have been improved significantly, making this remaster a must-play.
-
Oct 29, 2024If you are interested in gaming history or have fond memories of this trilogy and are old enough when modern 3D gaming was young and an analogue stick was something that weird new Nintendo N64 pad had. You’ll have an absolute blast.
-
Oct 26, 2024Whether you grew up with Lara Croft or are just discovering her original adventures, Tomb Raider I-III Remastered is a collection you won’t want to miss. It beautifully captures the nostalgia of the classic trilogy, delivering the same excitement and thrill that players experienced in the past. This remastered edition does an excellent job of bringing those iconic adventures back to life.
-
Feb 23, 2024A nostalgic love letter for Tomb Raider veterans, a merciless experience for modern gamers. The remastered trilogy perfectly captures the qualities of the old games, but the gameplay is fully faithful to its time. Newcomers should approach with caution.
-
Feb 20, 2024This release really needs two separate review scores: one for people who’ve never played the originals and one for players who will frolic through the levels with experience and rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia. Fans of the original Tomb Raider games will probably be thrilled with these remasters. For non-veterans, though, it will be an arduous journey, and the new textures, lighting, and “modern” controls won’t make much difference. It will be hard to judge these titles through the lens of ’90s tech and game design rather than 2024’s, and new players might have a tougher time overlooking issues that veteran players embrace as quirks or don’t see at all. However, it seems safe to assume that most people picking up Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered already appreciate the originals, and so this score is aimed more at them. Newcomers, approach with caution.
-
Feb 16, 2024The archeologist’s earliest adventures show their age in more ways than one, but this revival preserves enough of the games’ treasured elements to keep purists happy.
-
Feb 14, 2024Tomb Raider I-III Remastered is the collection you always wanted to see: maximum adherence and respect for the original work, the exact same gameplay from 28 years ago but a graphic design that enriches the experience with good taste, without overdoing it.
-
Feb 13, 2024These are solid remasters of excellent games, and fans of the series will thoroughly enjoy the experience. It’s part nostalgia, part respect for its legacy, and part truth when I say Tomb Raider 2 is a perfect game for its era, and the titles either side of it aren’t bad either. I hope newcomers give it a chance, but it does feel like the remaster could do more to help that happen.
-
Feb 13, 2024Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered has rejuvenated the old and spruced it into the new. The visual rebuild is a stellar job of a series that has stood the test of time. Whilst the camera and modern controls can betray you as the player and may not be suited to a game of this era; the fun and joyous experience of jumping back in is not one to miss.
-
Feb 13, 2024Tomb Raider I-III Remastered presents a generous package, bundling three of Lara's iconic adventures alongside their expansions. While it showcases updated graphics derived from the original source code of the three games and incorporates modern controls, the lack of quality of life improvements may hinder its appeal to a newer audience.
-
Feb 13, 2024A surprisingly good set of remasters, that present the original PS1 trilogy in the best light possible and with some very welcome options for modern controls and graphics.
-
Feb 13, 2024These classics look great with their updated visuals, and while tank controls in 2024 sound like a pain, they inexplicably add to the charm of each title, making you take time to survey your environment, consider your actions and simply enjoy your surroundings. But our biggest take away from all of this? We really hope Lara’s next installment returns to her roots, valuing exploration and discovery over shootouts.
-
Feb 13, 2024Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered Starring Lara Croft is a lovingly crafted compilation which may set a new standard for PS1 re-releases moving forward. Based on the original source code, this trilogy flawlessly reframes three iconic PS1 puzzle platformers as you remember them – warts and all. While you will need patience to navigate this trilogy of globe-trotting escapades, the upgraded art style sticks closely to Core Design’s intended vision and it’s a genuine pleasure to experience these 90s classics on all-new hardware. It’s comprehensive, too, with each game’s expansion pack included – and an enormous list of Trophies to unlock.
-
Feb 15, 2024Net of some lightness, which concerns both the technical and the gaming sectors, Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft is a value package, which will not fail to accompany fans of the first hour on a pleasant walk down memory lane. Players less accustomed to the harshness of games of the past (we're talking about almost thirty years ago), may however find the gameplay of the trilogy rather indigestible. Since this is a collection of remasters, we cannot help but appreciate Aspyr Media's work, which earns a place among the most successful works of the British studio.
-
Feb 13, 2024Although the updated visuals are a welcome addition, the modern controls are poorly implemented. However, Tomb Raider I-III Remastered is an absolute must-buy for fans of Lara’s original adventures.
-
Feb 13, 2024Tomb Raider I-III Remastered offers a nostalgic revisit to Lara Croft's first adventures, packaging the iconic original trilogy for modern audiences. The collection preserves the essence of exploration, puzzle-solving, and cinematic set pieces, despite dated 32-bit graphics and some new but underwhelming modernized visuals. Players have the option between classic tank controls and an updated control scheme to suit their preferences. While the remaster lacks additional content beyond the games, it remains a cost-effective way for both new and veteran fans to explore the series' roots. Lighting inconsistencies and a sparse remastering effort aside, this collection stands as a tribute to the enduring legacy of one of gaming's most iconic characters.

Apr 14, 2024At the time of writing, my heart is in the balance, because it's still pretty damn great to have Lara back. Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered is undoubtedly the ultimate compilation for those who want to enjoy Lara's first adventures in the best possible conditions. For around thirty euros, you'll be able to enjoy almost forty hours of gameplay, with all the sensations of the time and content that will be new to many. Three really great adventures, with a few bonus levels and new features such as New Game Plus, which holds a few surprises in store, and some particularly devious challenges. On the other hand, there are also some major problems besides the lack of affordable gameplay. Even though the games are more beautiful than ever, not everything is rosy. Features are missing and, above all, there are still a host of technical problems, some of which are as old as the games themselves. A lack of finish or an almost masochistic desire to keep the games intact? A good question, but it's not always pleasant, not to mention the fact that while the graphical overhaul is certainly present, it can also detract from the experience by drastically changing the original ambience or revealing what was once hidden and should still have been. An eagerly-awaited return, but unfortunately not as perfect as hoped.
-
PLAYMar 5, 2024Literally the old games running under new skin. The Modern controls are dreadful and III is stretched and frustrating, but the first game remains a masterpiece. [Issue#38, p.94]

Feb 29, 2024I fell in love with Tomb Raider the moment I played the first episode on my PC a very long time ago. That is why the ups and downs of the series hit me on a more sensible and emotional level. I was hyped about this remaster, and I have to admit I got what I hoped for: the original three games, with new shiny graphics and controls that are closer to the standards of 2024. But after playing through the remastered trilogy, I have to admit that my memories about the game were romanticized compared to reality. The gameplay and level design that worked over two decades ago, today feel dated and clunky. Tomb Raider I-III Remastered is hard to recommend for anyone but the hardcore fans of the series.
-
Feb 16, 2024Tomb Raider I-III Remastered is a carefully crafted repackaging of Lara Croft's most loved early adventures. With warts and all, it has been genuinely enjoyable to dissect the decisions that shaped these games. There's several options to smooth over some of the bumps. I think the modern control scheme, despite some compromises is certainly capable. Including the expansion packs makes this a great value proposition. It still doesn't escape the shackles of time but this is probably the best way to experience classic Tomb Raider.
-
Feb 13, 2024Tomb Raider I-III Remastered finds itself in a tough spot because what it aims to do is replicate the original trilogy with all of its content on modern hardware and it does it well. The biggest problem it faces is that the new coat of paint is largely just that -- the core gameplay is still rooted in early 3D jankiness and feels awkward to play now -- and in some ways, it's harder to wrap your mind around it now since no control scheme offered up feelings as natural as anything featured in a Tomb Raider game since the PS2 days onward. The new visuals look good in theory, but have odd clipping problems in motion and the animations being rooted in the PS1 games hurts the modern-day wrapper as well. It very much feels like a lot of effort went into making this feel authentic to the originals -- but to a fault.
-
Feb 13, 2024Tomb Raider I-III Remastered feels like it wants to be a loving tribute to the franchise's origins, but comes across like a half-effort instead.
-
Mar 3, 2024As nostalgic as Tomb Raider I–III Remastered might be for some fans, the fact is that the outdated gameplay mechanisms have no appeal to modern-day gamers, no matter how polished and good-looking the final product is.
-
Feb 26, 2024I found myself pretty torn on Tomb Raider I-III Remastered. It combines three classic PS1 games in one package and these now look and play even better than they ever have done before. On the other hand though, its archaic features such as manual saves, awkward camera, and hard to master controls, I can see presenting a barrier to entry for newcomers.
-
Feb 21, 2024Lara’s original trilogy has been lovingly restored with the launch of these remasters, offering a definitive collection that bundles the core games and their expansions. However, dusting off these old relics in the name of nostalgia may come with a nasty surprise. Don’t worry, there are no mummy curses, snake pits, or swinging pendulum axes, though the clunky controls will definitely take some getting used to (again).
-
Feb 14, 2024Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered offers an appealing new visual style but retains all of the frustrating mechanics of the originals. Hardcore fans will probably enjoy it, but it's not for everyone.
-
Feb 13, 2024These are still great games and this is a nice way to play them, but don’t go expecting a sleek and beautiful package that feels like a modern game.
-
Feb 27, 2024Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft takes a franchise that was flawed even in the 90s and does nothing interesting to update it. The new graphics are nice when they aren’t ruining the atmosphere of certain areas, but the modern controls somehow make these games a worse experience. There are plenty of great adventures out there starring Lara Croft. Her last trilogy was excellent, and even the 360-era titles, starting with Tomb Raider Legend, largely hold up. These original releases, though, have simply been eclipsed by far too many games at this point and are only really worth returning to if your nostalgia demands one more trip into these tombs.
