The Midnight Walk is my favorite game on the PSVR2, and a true proof of concept for the platform if you still need one. Not since my first time playing Journey has a title struck as strong an emotional chord with my very soul. The claymation world is absolutely beautiful yet terrifying, the soundtrack is hauntingly gorgeous, and the gameplay is full of wildly unique and creative ideas that I've never experienced before. Most importantly, the narrative combines an approachable storybook style with very deep themes and symbolism that are sure to tug at your heartstrings by the game's truly amazing conclusion. Each character and story beat has insane levels of charm. It's a title you really should play in VR if you can, despite a couple of very minor design inconveniences. Still, outside of VR, the 4 or 5 hour runtime may feel short, but what's here is amazing and worth experiencing regardless. Pardon me as I Google if the PSVR2 warranty covers tears shed within the headset.

The Midnight Walk is an astounding achievement of artistic vision that triumphantly tells both a heart-warming and terrifying story of perseverance and finding light in the darkest of times. It is an impressive labor of love that hopefully will find the audience it deserves and be at the top of game of the year lists come Winter.

A beautiful, bittersweet adventure that's best played in VR.

The Midnight Walk is a game worth taking a chance on. It’s a wonderful journey into a nightmarish adventure where several great stories all give you something to feel. The visuals are unparalleled, and some of the most impressive I’ve ever seen. This is art, this is something that is actually possible to achieve. While other developers are trying to make visual Fortnite clones, or chasing fancy photorealism, Fast Travel Games has done something completely different, with enormous success.

I haven’t been able to stop thinking about The Midnight Walk since I saw its endings. It’s something I know I’ll come back to so that I can wander this dark world again. Not because I’m looking to complete a checklist, but because everything I’ve learned has recontextualized the emotional stories I saw and changed what I believed about the world.

The Midnight Walk is a special game and one that tells a deeply affecting story while exploring a range of poignant themes. Its stunning art direction and masterful audio design come together to create an experience unlike any other. Though it offers little in the way of traditional challenge, the emotional journey it delivers lingers long after the credits roll.

The Midnight Walk is a dark fantasy narrative adventure that blends emotional storytelling with handcrafted visuals and immersive mechanics. Playable on both PS5 and PS VR2, it features creative puzzles, a unique sound-based navigation system, and a chapter-based structure that keeps progression engaging. The standout companion Potboy adds charm and utility, while the spatial audio and DualSense integration elevate immersion. Lack of localization may limit accessibility for some, but this is one of 2025’s most distinct and heartfelt indie experiences.

An adventure game with puzzle, stealth and horror elements, The Midnight Walk isn't all that complex mechanically. Its dark, intriguing world will grab your attention, though, and you'll soon come to love your companion, Potboy, making you want to see your journey through to its end. If you have the required hardware, you can play in VR, too, which is a nice touch.

The Midnight Walk is a deeply rewarding journey that pulls you in from start to finish. Its sinister and macabre world holds a breathtaking beauty, inviting the player to light a match and lose themselves in it.

This world that MoonHood has crafted captures the way those darkly comic stop-motion pieces invite us to a curious and frankly frightening place beyond reckoning, and ask us to simply accept what we’re seeing with little context or history. It’s art that has negative space, and it’s in that negative space that the imagination plays. We’re invited to observe strange rituals and customs, to break bread with the grotesque and the macabre, and to live by the light out of respect for the dark.

The Midnight Walk is an experience that is definitely worth living. In the foreground is its artistic value, which passes through an exceptional design and the manufacturing of the clay models. But it is impossible not to mention the work on the sound, with some of the most beautiful tracks we have happened to listen to recently, and a unique attention to the entire audio sector. Some gameplay mechanics may not be unforgettable, but MoonHood's title is more than the sum of its parts, and in the 5-6 hours needed to complete it, it tells an important story about heat. Not only that of the sun, but also that of empathy and understanding others.

From the very beginning, The Midnight Walk takes players on an emotional journey through a dark world. Equally dark and heartbreaking, the game tells serious stories with a lot of depth.

As we rolled credits on The Midnight Walk, any issues we had technically or otherwise had long since faded away. Instead, what stood out to us was the game’s haunting world filled with pensive storylines, impactful visuals, and an emotionally weighty score. If you’re expecting an engaging survival horror gameplay experience, you won’t find it here. That may have been what we were looking for as we first played the game — especially considering the VR format. But what we got instead was memorable, moving, and evocatively melancholic. The Midnight Walk is not a game we’ll forget anytime soon.

The Midnight Walk is a real eye-catcher, offering one of the most distinctive and visually-arresting worlds yet seen in a horror game. As with most good walks, the experience is often best in its quieter moments, as the game’s puzzles and stealth sections range from good to sometimes merely adequate. That said, The Midnight Walk never strays too far off path and those in the mood for something spooky ought to enjoy the journey.

The Midnight Walk is a rare case of a book best judged by its cover. If its aesthetic speaks to you, you'll have a pleasant, spooky journey alongside Potboy. If it doesn't, its simple gameplay is unlikely to grab your attention tightly enough to make up for it. Regardless, its execution of this style is commendable, and as the score soared in the final moments of my playthrough, I knew it was a walk I was glad to have taken.

The Midnight Walk is a story of redemption, of how one fiery spark can reignite old passions or heal a broken heart. Founding members of Moonhood once told me they thought about quitting game development altogether, before eventually founding the studio and finding a reason to keep going with this project. I can't help but feel The Midnight Walk is an allegory for that rekindled passion; sometimes a great game only needs a spark.

The Midnight Walk works its magic through its twisted visuals and captivating designs, crafting an utterly beautiful world filled with mystery. While the narrative and gameplay didn’t necessarily reach the quality seen in the rest of the game, The Midnight Walk molds itself into one incredible display of stop-motion storytelling that lets the clay do the talking. MoodHood brought the best out of claymation and knows how to handcraft something unique and heartfelt in immersive horror games.

VR headset or not, The Midnight Walk is an exquisite debut from MoonHood with fantastic hand-sculpted designs, with room (or a house rather) to let you gently admire that handiwork, and a story that warms the soul.

The Midnight Walk doesn't always succeed as a game, but as a story and an art form, it draws you in effortlessly. It's a brilliantly atmospheric adventure that makes up for limited gameplay with emotional peaks that'll make you question everything you've just witnessed and done. The Midnight Walk might be a shorter path than I first thought, but it's not one I'll be forgetting.

For a game so concerned with artists and their creations, and with the importance of light and sound, the sheer artistry on display feels not just impressive, but meaningful, too.

The Midnight Walk is undeniably a big stab at both a moody experience and a satisfying puzzler. MoonHood’s debut stumbles a bit at the latter, running into some lacklustre puzzle design and monotony with how scarcely it mixes this up, but it makes up for it in setting. There are a lot of cool, eerie horrors that await on the mountain hike, depicted and animated to unbelievable detail, all the more striking than the last. Backed by enthralling 3D sound design that has you dreading every little footstep of those creepy crawlies, it’s a fairy tale horror adventure that is more than the sum of its parts.

The Midnight Walk impresses with its clay stop-motion visuals and unique art direction that make the experience memorable. The symbolic narrative and immersive atmosphere captivate, even though the basic gameplay doesn’t fully reach its potential. Despite its short length and high price, it’s one of the most artistic audiovisual experiences of 2025 and worth picking up on sale.

Visually stunning and emotionally resonant in places, largely due to its superb sound design, The Midnight Walk ultimately falters with overly simplistic and permissive mechanics. This makes the gameplay feel disconnected from the depicted world's inherent brutality.

One of the most visually distinctive games of the year, that proves you don’t need realism or gore to be scary – in this enjoyable mix of stealth, puzzle-solving, and surreal horror.

Above all, there's something fortifying in the game's message, however awkwardly it's delivered: keep walking; there's always a way out of the darkness. [Issue#412, p.114]

The Midnight Walk is a simple and morbidly cozy walking simulator that owes a lot to the works of Tim Burton and Henry Selick. It's cute, slight, and mostly a demo for a VR system few play anymore.

Pure aesthetics are the main selling point of The Midnight Walk, and if those aesthetics are decidedly familiar, they’re an effusive tribute to the well-loved gothic stylings of Henry Selick and Phil Tippett.
