The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II is a near-perfect sequel that follows up the previous game with an intriguing story and premise. While shaking up the story formula, the game retains many of the redeeming qualities of its predecessor and makes improvements in the right areas, including the seamless action-to-turn-based combat system. This is a cant-miss RPG that brings everything Trails fans enjoy about the series.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak II continues the Calvard story arc set by its predecessor and also reaches the standard of excellence set by it. Whether tackling 4SPG jobs from the bulletin board, grinding for gear or playing minigames in the Märchen Garten or trying to advance through the main story, things never get boring in Trails Through Daybreak II. The roster of characters is varied and interesting, and watching their own history and motivations play out in the context the main story helps make them feel alive. Progressing through the main story campaign is kept interesting through the combined force of a strong narrative and great battle system, but the player can always take a break and use the Märchen Garten as a playground. These factors make The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak II not only a great addition to the franchise, but an incredible JRPG in general.

Trails Through Daybreak II tells a great story with many twists and turns. NIS has also made quality-of-life improvements throughout the game to make everything flow as smoothly as possible. With excellent writing and entertaining combat, Trails Through Daybreak II shows it can stand on the same mountain as the biggest titans in the genre.

Mechanically, Trails Through Daybreak 2 is an incredibly satisfying role-playing experience that offers up some best-in-genre combat, impressive presentation, strong writing, and an exciting "whodunnit" mystery that will keep players guessing to the very end, including enough switching sides and shifting of allegiances to make one's head spin. If you weren't a fan of the Trails games before Trails Through Daybreak 2, it's a safe bet to assume you will be after completing it, and that alone makes it a game worth recommending.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II is an enjoyable RPG experience, especially from a character stance. It isn’t the most substantial sequel within The Legend of Heroes: Trails series’ lineup, but it’s far from a terrible game. I enjoyed playing it and eagerly await the next adventure to hit the Zemurian continent. We should heed the lessons of the past, if only so that brand-new possibilities might emerge, and I feel The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II encapsulates that message well.

With a more gameplay-focused and varied campaign as well as a phenomenally unforgettable cast of stand-out characters, The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II really scratched a lot of itches for me that I didn't even know I had. Or was that Nadia's needles?

While Trails Through Daybreak II’s story doesn’t reach the heights of the previous entries, the expanded combat, re-introduction of side activities and a fun playground to test the might of the best teams I could muster made for a very enjoyable time all the same.

The Legend Of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak 2 is at its best when it focuses on its wonderful cast of characters. This JRPG shines when you diverge from the disappointing and far too long main plot and instead focus on the brilliant and emotional side quests. Whilst there are too few improvements and additions to combat, it is still an addictive turn-based experience. Coupled with great visuals and a memorable soundtrack, you have the recipe for a enjoyable JRPG. It takes some missteps but mainly sticks the landing!

The latest entry in the Trails series continues to deliver an engaging story, entertaining combat, and strong character development. Despite minor issues with certain minigames and the loss of some decision-making weight, the game retains its charm, offering plenty of content for fans of the genre.

A direct sequel that does what you expect, smoothing out some rough edges to offer a more balanced experience than its predecessor.

Daybreak 2 may not be quite what Trails fans are expecting, and if you’re not a fan you might feel a bit lost — but if you buy into the experience, there’s a truly delightful role-playing game underneath.

Trails Through Daybreak II delivers another dramatic episode in the long-running and consistent series. It breaks hardly any new ground beyond a few additions to combat and some new places to explore, but the story is a wild and mature sequel sure to delight fans.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak II is an excellent entry into the ongoing Trails series of games and an easy recommendation to RPG/Anime fans if they played the first.

Though not quite as strong as its predecessor thanks to its narrative devices, The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak II is another incredibly strong RPG under Nihon Falcom’s long-running belt. The party is stacked this time and serves as a warm-found family. Perhaps one of the best in the RPG scene. With this, there are a lot of exciting combat shenanigans and party DNA to engage in, joyously laying waste to beasties and mysterious figures. Better yet, the city of Edith feels more lived and breathed in than ever thanks to the bountiful list of activities and completion metrics to engage with. Though their journey is slightly rocky, at least Arkride Solutions has and always will have each other.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak II is a case of one step forward and one step back. Mechanically, it's the best put-together Trails game to date, as it fixes the problems in the last game and introduces enough new mechanics so it's fun to play. It also retains and refines the likable cast. Unfortunately, the lackluster time travel mechanic and plot structure weaken the experience. It's still a fun game but ends up feeling weaker than its predecessor.

Whilst the story isn’t as strong as the previous title, the endearing, well-written characters and exciting battle systems make this a Trails game that’s well worth it for long-time fans of the franchise.

With Trails Through Daybreak 2’s release, Western fans are now only one game behind Japan—a feat that seemed impossible just a few years ago. Even with its faults, Daybreak 2 left me full of questions, theories, and eager anticipation for the next title in the Calvard arc. I adore this series and can’t wait to see where this trail leads me next.

Trails Through Daybreak II is a fantastic slice of JRPG action that sings when focusing on its combat, progression, and exploration that rewards due to the richness Calvard presents in its world-building.

Being a second part of a new story arc, The Legend of Heroes Trails through Daybreak II hits all the right marks, but in doing so the core system of the game, its challenging and deep turn-based combat system, somehow degenerates into a by the book real-time affair, that will surely please newcomers but probably alienate long-time fans. Still, another solid JRPG by Falcom.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II is an ambitious sequel that builds on its predecessor with deeper worldbuilding, refined combat mechanics, and engaging character dynamics. However, inconsistent writing, a rushed third act, and underwhelming new features prevent it from reaching its full potential. While longtime fans will appreciate the expanded lore and combat improvements, the uneven storytelling may leave some players frustrated.

Daybreak 2 is an uneven Trails. The battle systems and those related to gameplay have improved considerably, but the main story ended up being its weak point. It is a title that partially meets expectations and still remains a good game, despite being a series known for having high-level games. Hopefully the next game will deliver on all the potential that the current arc has built up so far.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II correctly develops this new chapter of the series, introducing new concepts and further exploring the characters that will accompany us until the end of the adventure.

Trails Through Daybreak 2 had all the right ingredients—engaging combat, deep customization, and a gorgeous presentation—but somewhere along the way, it forgot to justify its own existence. What should have been a meaningful continuation of the story instead felt like a low-stakes detour, lacking the weight and player agency needed to make its twists truly land. I wanted to believe in it, to see past the early criticisms, but in the end, it only proved them right.

Its gameplay is on the simple side for the most part, and its real-time combat system has some issues, but series fans are likely to enjoy Atlier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land. Newcomers might find some joy here as well, thanks to an open world packed with things to see and do.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II came across as one of the weaker entries in the saga, due to a less-than-stellar narrative that stumbles awkwardly before finding its footing. Fortunately, the memorable cast and a noticeably improved combat system compared to the previous installment support a lengthy adventure in which Nihon Falcom may have tried to cram in a bit too much. For this reason, it's hard to recommend to casual players with little interest in The Legend of Heroes, who might struggle to appreciate even its charming yet undeniably outdated technical aspects. Fans of the series, on the other hand, can rest easy: despite its weaknesses, it still remains a must-buy.

While it may not be the most meorable entry in the series, The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II still has plenty that series fans thoroughly enjoy. Spending more time with the memorable and delightful cast is never a bad thing, and even though there are elements that don’t quite hit the same or feel a bit superfluous, there’s never any point where the game is in danger of becoming grating. Fans may well come to appreciate its role in simply holding the fort before Kai no Kiseki comes to shake Zemuria up.

Trails through Daybreak 2 is a surprisingly experimental instalment in Falcom's long-running RPG series. Gameplay-wise, it improves upon its predecessor with tighter combat systems, and a greater degree of interactivity during side quests. However, its epilogue-like storytelling is very hit and miss. Some fantastic character development is contrasted by padded narrative beats and a plot device that grows tediously predictable as you progress. Still, with the right expectations, this is another enjoyable romp with Van and the gang.

The latest addition to Falcom's long-running RPG series isn't a complete disaster, but it's far from a triumph, and the new features barely raise it above the underwhelming story.

Trails Through Daybreak II is a good game. It is a good game in the way that we actually don’t get a lot of, a solid installment in what seems from the outside to be a very solid series. Oh, sure, having nothing spectacular in it is kind of a flaw, but I think it is a good game all the way through. If you’re a fan of the series, you’ll have a blast with it, and if you’re not a fan but want to get into it, maybe you really do want a JRPG that’s more fun for the combat than the story. Heck, maybe the story will do it for you! So cheers to you, Trails Through Daybreak II. I don’t know if I want to stay at your house, but you welcomed me in and I enjoyed the experience.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak 2 is too much of a continuity sequel, so much so that at times it forgets to contribute something of its own, and that's its biggest problem. Even so, it's also an outstanding JRPG that manages to feel modern while embracing the classic.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak 2 makes a few missteps with the pacing and structure of its multiversal story, but it’s buoyed by a focus on quality character moments and impressive worldbuilding over earthshaking reveals. The turn-based combat and party customization haven’t changed much at all, but they didn’t really need to, and the real-time action side of things has seen some small but meaningful improvements. Daybreak 2 didn’t move the needle in the overall Calvard saga as much as I hoped, but this more personal story is still another good entry in the Trails series overall.

The sequel to Trails through Daybreak follows a continuity-driven approach but falls short in its narrative aspect. The battles remain its strongest point.

Daybreak 2 sits in a weird space in which it’s a must-play for fans of the series, as it sets up events that will be built upon in future games, but it’s also really difficult to recommend. If you’re determined to go in regardless, keep your expectations in check, brace yourself for a seemingly endless amount of filler, and you should have a decent enough time.

As interesting as the character development may be, as exhilarating as the combat gameplay may feel, and as endearing as Van may be, Trails Through Daybreak II struggles to hide its lack of major narrative stakes. Storytelling shortcuts and the overall lack of impact of the plot have tested our patience for a title that deserved much more—especially as a reward for the dedication of longtime fans of the series, who are already particularly patient. For a Trails game, this is very weak, and our eyes are already turning toward Kai No Kiseki, hoping that this time, Nihon Falcom will have more to tell us.
