Jan 8, 2026The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon is the pinnacle of Trails storytelling alongside the best evolution of the hybrid action turn-based combat.
-
Jan 8, 2026The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon is a triumphant high point for the Calvard arc, blending rich narrative threads, refined combat systems, and beloved returning characters into one of the series’ most consistent and rewarding entries. With over 100 hours of deeply interconnected storytelling across multiple perspectives, Horizon excels at delivering emotional payoffs and mechanical polish that longtime fans will appreciate.
-
Jan 8, 2026The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon is an incredible success that puts the franchise back on track. With excellent combat, a (nearly) flawless story, and only a few technical issues that don't detract from the experience, it's a must-have game for fans of one of the best JRPG franchises of all time.
-
Jan 21, 2026A truly engrossing RPG, The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon is the best game in the Calvard arc yet and a must-play for series fans.
-
Jan 14, 2026Trails beyond the Horizon is truly a massive game with an impressive amount of content and a thought-provoking storyline replete with memorable characters and powerful moments. It’s a true delight to play so long as you’re not a series newcomer.
-
Jan 9, 2026Trails Beyond the Horizon lives up to expectations thanks to a combination of the interesting plot with a versatile gameplay and extensive content.
-
Jan 8, 2026While Trails Beyond the Horizon excels especially in its combat and RPG systems, it also succeeds with its main story and side content, such as the Grim Garten, character relationship system, and side quests that all tell unique stories worth listening to. Trails Beyond the Horizon is a game that deserves recognition and is up there with some of the best the genre has to offer.
-
Jan 8, 2026The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon is easily the best game in the Calvard arc thus far, and one of the greatest games in the entire franchise, though with the caveat that it is made possible by building on twelve games worth of context. New players should really avoid leaping in here and go back to at least Trails Through Daybreak, but series fans are in for a treat. The narrative is excellent, the combat is in top form, and has never been at a higher level.
-
Jan 11, 2026The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon is a massive game with oodles of familiar and fresh characters, locales, mechanics, and quests. It can actually be a bit too much at times yet it all comes together to form one of the best-crafted modern RPGs.
-
Jan 20, 2026Trails beyond the Horizon represents a true turning point—the moment when The Legend of Heroes series breaks with the past and projects itself into the future. We know nothing about the next game in chronological order, but at this point Nihon Falcom can no longer turn back; it can only move forward. The studio has refined the combat system, set the narrative on a path toward its conclusion, and assembled an impressive cast. All that remains is to modernize the technical side; after that, even opening up to new players becomes a secondary concern. From our point of view, the appeal of The Legend of Heroes now lies precisely in the universe it has cultivated over many years of JRPGs—a universe that makes the saga a truly unique experience for genre fans who have the time and desire to catch up on the previous titles. Trails beyond the Horizon has shown that it’s worth it.
-
Jan 20, 2026The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon is a bittersweet ending to a story that started over 20 years ago. Beyond the Horizon has mastered its combat system, offering a near-perfect balance between action and turn-based combat. Meanwhile, the story at times had me glued to the screen. It's just a shame some of the franchise's most glaring issues still haven't been addressed, and the game's pacing could have used a lot more work.
-
Jan 9, 2026The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon is one of the franchise's greatest milestones. An ambitious, complex JRPG that is deeply satisfying for those who have followed the saga for years. It is not accessible, nor does it claim to be, and therein lies part of its identity. It may not be the best entry point, but it is one of the most memorable journeys Zemuria has offered us so far.
-
Jan 25, 2026The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon isn't the most gripping narrative, in part due to how much it relies on knowledge of so many other games to fully understand. What it does do right, though, is that it's an incredibly fun and addictive JRPG experience that I couldn't get enough of.
-
Jan 23, 2026Trails Beyond the Horizon is a game that demands attention, memory, and patience, but in return offers a vast, layered, and coherent narrative, something few JRPGs manage today. The combat system is solid and rewarding, side quests and optional modes add depth, and those who have followed the series so far will find continuous satisfaction.

Jan 23, 2026The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon not only delivers an epic conclusion to the Calvard arc, but also represents a major turning point in the shared narrative of the entire Trails universe. The story is once again expertly told, as fans of the series have come to expect, with major plot twists that cast new light on much of what we believed we knew about this rich and compelling setting. Great care is given to the cast, supported by an enormous amount of dialogue that further brings the world to life. However, the lack of an Italian localization may prove to be a significant barrier for non-English speakers, and some sections suffer from an excessive amount of dialogue, occasionally disrupting the overall pacing. Gameplay is more refined and satisfying than ever, with the turn-based combat system truly shining and reaching new levels of depth. The soundtrack does not disappoint, featuring several tracks that immediately stick in your head, while the visual presentation remains the game’s Achilles’ heel, once again feeling like it belongs to a project from two generations ago. Of course, no one plays Nihon Falcom titles for their visuals, but it’s hard not to wonder when we’ll finally see this talented team working with a more adequate budget—a question I find myself asking in far too many of their reviews. That said, The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon stands as an excellent JRPG that more than capably closes a long-running narrative arc, while laying solid foundations for the future of a saga that should not be overlooked.
-
Jan 22, 2026The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon comes out swinging after a largely divisive previous entry in Daybreak 2, where so much of the story was tied up in time travel shenanigans that didn’t land or advance the plot. The main narrative is interesting and intriguing from the jump, even if the pacing is a bit slow in Act 1.
-
Jan 20, 2026Trails Beyond the Horizon is not a game for everyone, and that is both its strength and its weakness. The title rewards years of careful buildup with strong revelations and a compelling finale, but demands a great deal of patience in return.
-
Jan 15, 2026The Legend of Heroes Trails Beyond the Horizon is a major milestone in the franchise and the history of Zemuria, but also the culmination of many years of gameplay refinement. A superb conclusion for Calvard.
-
Jan 15, 2026The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon continues the Calvard arc of the series in a largely successful way. The story is strong and the cast is colorful, but the journey is not entirely without flaws. The narrative unfolds very slowly at the start (a typical issue for the franchise), and at the same time this is absolutely not a beginner-friendly entry point. The combat system remains solid and offers plenty of room for experimentation. Even so, it can feel overwhelming at times, especially if you’re not already familiar with the series. However, if you can look past these shortcomings, an incredible adventure awaits, filled with tons of content and memorable moments.
-
Jan 14, 2026Rather than a jumping-in point, Trails Beyond the Horizon is third in a trilogy and not a good place to start this series. However, for those already neck deep in Zemuria, Horizon is a well-built conclusion to the Calvard arc, and a fun way to spend 80 hours and send off Van and his team in style.
-
Jan 9, 2026The complex narrative, with multiple perspectives, the hybrid combat system, and the various mechanics that make it deep without overwhelming the player, make Trails Beyond the Horizon a spectacular JRPG to play.
-
Jan 8, 2026Trails beyond the Horizon is one of the most impactful games in Falcom's series to date, dealing in world-altering revelations and truly dramatic story developments. For Trails fans who have come this far, Horizon has the potential to blow you away — but you need to be ready for hours of character recaps and exposition before things really start to ramp up.
-
Jan 8, 2026I don’t know what is coming next for our friends in Zemuria, or when we will get to see it, but The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon has still been the most fun I’ve had in Calvard yet. Yeah, it still plays, looks, and feels like Daybreak 1 and 2 for the most part, but with the exception of the time skip and engine change between Cold Steel 2 and 3, games of an arc tend to do that, so it was expected.
-
Jan 8, 2026The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon's compelling journey into space builds an exciting launchpad for what will come next.
-
Jan 8, 2026More than anything, it’s great to see Trails Beyond the Horizon take steps to answer some of the series’ longstanding questions, and set the stage for the grand finale of the entire epic. There’s still nothing else out there quite like Falcom’s series, and Trails Beyond the Horizon is a strong reminder that those hundreds of hours it takes to play all these games is well worth it. And perhaps more importantly, picture proof that Falcom is willing to learn from its past, and I’ve more hope than ever that it might truly be able to stick the landing for the wild experiment that Trails has become.
-
Jan 26, 2026The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon builds on a solid and familiar structure, very similar to that of its two predecessors, while significantly deepening its connections with the other chapters of the Trails series. Although its narrative suffers from notable pacing issues, the experience is upheld by a charismatic cast and a robust combat system.

Jan 8, 2026Instead of wrapping things up for Van, Falcom pushes his story further, giving it a scale quite unprecedented in the series. Don't get me wrong: It explains a lot about some secrets that have been lingering since the series' beginning. Even so, the RPG is far from fulfilling the implicit promise its ominous Japanese subtitle ("Farewell, O Zemuria") carries. Horizon is not a goodbye. It's the first glimpse of the epic final steps that lie ahead.
