    Even though the $70 price is completely unjustified, the PS5 remake of The Last of Us makes the core game from PS3 to shame. The main differences is of course, the visuals, graphics, no multiplayer, and the trophies being more easier than ever.

    Technically this PS5 version is a great addition, although the console is still not powerful enough to run the game at native 4K60, full price is unacceptable, however Sony knows that there's no competition at this point for such quality narrative AAA experience.

    After exactly 10 years I have finally played The Last of Us, playing the upgraded version with better graphics which, in 2013 the original must have been perceived as like a game with ultra-realistic graphics back then. I have played the game after I have already seen the tv show which obviously makes the twists and the story a bit less surprising.     It is a shame that such a painstakingly and meticulously crafted game sits at a 6.8 rating, but we are on Metacritic so what can we do...    … Expand

    The game is great for those who are hardcore fans of the game or for those who have never experienced TLOU. As for everyone else, you have no grounds to complain about it being the same exact game but with improved graphics that is sold at regular price because you don't fall in neither category mentioned.     The game that just keeps being astounding and breathtaking after all these years! Troy Baker’s performance is out of this world and Ashley Johnson hits all her notes as a strong and vulnerable woman. Still one of the best games out there.

El remake no tiene grandes cambios en cuestiones de gameplay, pero ahora se siente más refinado y con los ajustes mínimos pero necesarios para hacer aún mejor la experiencia, desde losUno de mis juegos favoritos de todos los tiempos, si la versión original ya era una obra maestra, este Remake pone a otro nivel la experiencia de juego, ahora se siente la cohesión entre Part I y Part II. El remake no tiene grandes cambios en cuestiones de gameplay, pero ahora se siente más refinado y con los ajustes mínimos pero necesarios para hacer aún mejor la experiencia, desde los nuevos gráficos que dotan de más dramatismo las actuaciones y expresiones, hasta los nuevos extras como son las nuevos modos de juego de muerte permanente y speedrun, además de los agregados cosméticos y de accesibilidad.     I’m confused by all the hate this is getting. I (blasphemously) played TLOU2 first as I didn’t have a PS when the original came out. I tried to play the reMASTER (caps for clarity, not yelling) after and couldn’t get into it because it was just such a significant step down in gameplay and visuals. I just picked up the reMAKE TLOU1 on sale and it’s excellent. It feels next gen and isI’m confused by all the hate this is getting. The ending was jarring to me, I had mixed feelings, and my thoughts on the characters were questionable at best. I was excited to experience the story again with the improved visuals and improved gameplay, which really looked fantastic on PS5. The lighting, the scenery, the characters and even the enemies all had a new life brought into them which made the experience feel more cinematic and even better. I got to really spend time focusing on what made the journey unique and great and not only wondering what would happen next, and it pushed the experience up for me even more as a result. Now I can say with full confidence that while The Last of Us may not be perfect, it is amazing. Part 1 is without a doubt the definitive version of this game and a must play for both existing fans and certainly anyone who hasn’t gone on this journey before, as I believe it’s an experience every gamer should have.… Expand

    Ok… as the last remastered: there is no need for this if we had real retro compatibility. For me is an 8 because the original was a 10 masterpiece, and remastered was a 9 for the same reason. This is unnecessary. Overall still a masterpiece

    In fact, in addition to the huge visual changes, the gameplay really feels different compared to the original, but this is not part 2 level. For those who are not familiar with the original, this will be a great purchase, the rest I recommend waiting for the discount.

    Great game and series. TLOU part 1 on PS5 is the best way the play this game. I've played the PS3, PS4 and now the PS5. I do believe they took some assets from PS4 and just polished them. However with that said, TLOU part 1 is one of the best looking games ever.

    First things first, I'd give the game an 8,5/10 with a small points deduction for the price, but overall it's still a fanastic game and it looks better than ever in my opinion.
    That being said, I think everyone should tak a few things into consideration before you buy this game.
    If you: - Can spare the money - If you have a PS5 (obviously) - If you don't have the remastered version    First things first, I'd give the game an 8,5/10 with a small points deduction for the price, but overall it's still a fanastic game and it looks better than ever in my opinion.
    That being said, I think everyone should tak a few things into consideration before you buy this game.
    If you:
    - Can spare the money

    this one is worth it in my opinion.

    If you however already have the PS4 version and you're really only looking for an excuse to play it again I'd either go with the remastered version or wait for a sale. The game is great as always, you can't expect anything other than this issue, but in my opinion, 70$ is too much, it is worth 50$, and I had two expectations: one, that more details would be worked on, and one, that the feature of the system for making space in version 2 would be added to it. And there are still a bunch of bugs, I wish they would have been fixed, otherwise they don't have any problems, this game is great as always.… Expand

If inserting the ps4 disc of the remastered version they would have given you like a 10USD option to upgrade into Ps5 digital version, I would have given the game a solid 10. It's too expensive for a graphic and creative upgrade that is comparable to fan made MODs and has nothing to do with a "remake".

    The game structure is intact, for those who completed the game several times, we can tell everything is exactly the same. I was waiting for a new DLC story based like left behind, the story about Marlene crossing the US after getting shot, her journey to St Marys hospital, or maybe a history about Joel & Tommy surviving during the 20-year period after that night at the game's intro. But no, nothing. Not a single thing is changed. That's why this game sparked the discussion about what is a remake and what is a remaster. I'm thinking about bluepoint games and demon souls, they kept the original essence while creating a whole new game, a complete overhaul of the game structure, that's the remake for me.

    I'm still giving it an 8 because I really enjoyed how the Ps5 underlines the tech to boost the storytelling and gameplay experience. There are slight changes, the way Joel expresses his pain in his facial features is amazing and is something new. The haptic feedback & the triggers were nice additions too for "feeling" the world and objects you interact with. It's hard to come to terms with the 70 USD package. I feel they took advantage of my love of this game and really profited from that. I bought the original, and then the remastered, and now a 70USD remake with no upgrade path for previous owners and no additional content. Likewise, I know nobody forced me into buying those games, I guess when you love something you are hooked on it. I love Naughty Dog.    … Expand

Graphics and gameplay have improved massively, better than TLOU II even, graphics wise. Yes the story is exactly the same, although there is a free DLC as well. Anyone who somehow hasn’t played the game definitely should check this out, and for the rest - it’sI played this game before but as a huge fan of The Last Of Us franchise I simply HAD to get the PS5 version. It did not disappoint! Graphics and gameplay have improved massively, better than TLOU II even, graphics wise. Yes the story is exactly the same, although there is a free DLC as well. Anyone who somehow hasn’t played the game definitely should check this out, and for the rest - it’s a money question first and foremost. Secondly, it depends on how much you value graphics, melee and upgrade systems (the fighting mechanics and upgrades were really the only things I’d say changed from the gameplay perspective). Suppose for me it was nice to see Ellie and Joel from the start again as well. So I would definitely recommend this game, but with the above caveats.… Expand

    I originally only finished it way back on PS3. After getting half way through the show my wife wanted to see the game, so picked the remake up from the library and she started watching me play through it. But she got bored during all the combat parts especially if I was doing it as stealth. So put it all the way down to easiest to speed it up.     Very well made, hugely overpriced, and falsely marketed as remake, remaster of a great game, that no-one needed. If you played it in the past, move along as there nothing worthwhile here for you. If you didn't played tLoU before buy much cheaper PS4 version or wait for big sale (like -75% at minimum).

    This is an awesome remake of the original last of us. They really went the extra mile with the graphics redesign to look phenomenal at 4K 60fps. Also the way they tied everything to be like part 2 was awesome. Gameplay was smooth the only cons I see are there’s no dodging melee attacks and no prone in the stealth. Other than that it’s a great game!

    It is only getting a low rating because of the $70 price tag for the remake. But for hardcore fans, like myself it is totally worth it. The cutscenes are gorgeous and 60fps performance mode is a god send. Absolutely THE way to play the original game and runs seamlessly into the second game.

    I never played the older version of this game so this was the firs time I have ever played a game from this series, and it was incredible. Its the mix between movie and video game I had always dreamed about. The plot has some of the most realistic characters I have seen in anay medium, and the gameplay is immaculate. The graphics also just look better than real life. En cualquier caso es increíble el juego, super inmersivo ha ido de lujo en la PS5, estable y perfecto. Juegazo. Sobre el precio no me voy a posicionar, los videojuegos son un lujo no una necesidad.     Only bad thing people have to say is that it was full price but I didn't mind to spend that price tag on it, I love it. It looked amazing and felt even better than PS3/4, obviously. One of the best games ever made and a fantastic remake.

Now the developer has rebuilt the game from the ground up, with new character models, enhanced graphics, and gameplay enhancements – many of which we saw in Part II.

    Bewarned, this review may have spoilers for The Last Of Us Part I, Left Behind, and The Last Of Us Part II.

    STORY

    It’s 2033, and the world is seemingly at its end thanks to the Cordyceps fungal infection – an infection that infiltrates the brain and turns humans into cannibalistic creatures. We once again join Joel, a smuggler who has the dangerous task of escorting 14-year old Ellie across a ravaged and dishevelled United States. On their journey they encounter many hardships, hunters and of course – the infected.

    Endure and survive.

    GAMEPLAY

    While the gameplay stays loyal to the original, it has borrowed some elements from 2020’s The Last Of Us Part II – a welcome addition. The combat and gun-handling feels a lot more fluid than the PS3 and PS4 versions of the game, which accompanies the DualSense’s haptic feedback flawlessly.

    The updated AI is unparalleled. The enemies are a lot more aggressive than in the original release. They don’t just bob up and down behind cover any more, and you are a lot more susceptible to flanking (I died, alot!). In single-player games, it’s common for friendly AI to just get in the way all the time, but Ellie and other allies in your journey are always assisting with kills and yelling observations during an encounter.

    One of the major new features in the game is the accessibility settings found within the game. Naughty Dog became pioneers of inclusion in the video game industry when they released The Last Of Us Part II, which had the largest accessibility options I’ve ever seen in a video game. While I don’t use these features, I know a lot of people do, and for them to be present in Part I is fantastic.

    The Last Of Us Part I was built on the same engine as Part II, which makes the whole journey a lot more cohesive. A game set in a post-apocalyptic world is typically depicted with a very lackluster palette, but Part 1, just like the original, has such a beautiful palette even when half the game takes place in dreary subways and sewers. The environments crafted by Naughty Dog are so well thought out; every room has a story to tell, it’s not just a messy room, it’s a story of the survivors who came before Joel and Ellie.

    VISUALS AND PERFORMANCE

    There are two graphics options presented to you when you start playing: Fidelity and Performance. Fidelity favours resolution over frame rate and targets a minimum of 30 fps, whereas performance has a balanced resolution and framerate but targets 60 fps. As a personal preference, I chose to play the game on performance mode and I was very happy with how the game ran on it. I snuck a peak at Fidelity from time to time and while it is gorgeous, I did prefer the extra frames that the performance mode gives you.

    CONTERVERSY

    Now to address the most controversial part of this game – the price tag. I would have liked a little more incentive placed into the game to purchase this $129 remake, but I definitely do not regret experiencing this enhanced journey of one of my favourite video games of all time. Just by playing this game you can understand that the Devs at Naughty Dog truly put their heart into this game and just want players to experience the original game in the best form possible. That said, if you have played the PS4 version recently, I would probably hold off on playing this for a while but if you’re like me who hasn’t played the game since The Last Of Us Part II came out, I would definitely recommend playing it now.

    THE VERDICT

    Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part I is a legendary remake of a legendary game. Any new or returning players will find this game to be an emotional and action-packed journey which will continue to stand the test of time.

    A bit pricey for a remake. If you have played the remastered version, maybe you may skip this one. Visuals are INCREDIBLE (I'm playing part II currently and I can see the difference). AI is ver smart. Had a great time. 3D audio works amazing.

    Never played the original (PS3) or remaster (PS4), so glad i didnt, experiencing it first time with PS5 engine was a whole different experience fully utilising the PS5.

    Would've given it a 10/10 but that £70 price tage is not worth the 15 hour run i did. Thats me taking my time, looking for safes/collectible/looting etc.

    The negative reviews are mostly about the price, which I agree shouldn't be 70usd. But when talking about the game, it's the same as the original but better. Most of the animations now look super realistic as well as the environments, and the faces.
    If you are looking to replay this masterpiece this is the version that you should be playing.

    One of the best games in history! I understand the argument of this not needing a remake but it’s still amazing and leaps above the original. If you don’t think it’s worth a full $70 then just wait for a sale but I highly recommend this version for new and veteran fans of The Last of Us.

    the combat is now as visceral and brutal as the last of part 2 but with that classic ps3 feel still infused into the game’s core.

    The story is still the masterpiece you know but presentation can do a lot to enhance it, like I said before the character animations are so much more powerful and subtle, this elevates every cutscene and makes the story and characters feel so much more real.

    This is essentially like switching from a DVD copy to the 4K collectors edition. There isn’t anything wrong with the DVD copy but the 4K collectors edition is a special experience that every diehard fan will need to have.    … Expand

    I understand that $70 is alot for a game that came out 10+ years ago but the rating shouldn’t be based on that. The gameplay, graphics and mechanics that got implemented from The last of us part 2 just make this game so much better and its always good to go back and play a better version of a masterpiece

    I never played original but this is definitely one of the best games I ever played. Amazing story with awesome graphics, music and smooth gameplay. Almost cinematic feeling in your hands to play with. Both main characters are compelling and very charismatic. It was amazing experince to play this game and I am very glad that i bough it.

    The Last Of Us je dnes už kultová záležitosť. Stále mám v pamäti prezentáciu z e3 2012 kde som si pridal do pomyselného zoznamu hier, o ktoré by som mal v budúcnosti záujem práve The Last of Us. Nemal som o tej hre vytvorenú takmer žiadnu mienku, myslel som si, že to bude len ďalšia z radu „zombie“ hier. Vôbec by ma nenapadlo, že máme rok od vydania jednej z najdôležitejších resp.The Last Of Us je dnes už kultová záležitosť. Stále mám v pamäti prezentáciu z e3 2012 kde som si pridal do pomyselného zoznamu hier, o ktoré by som mal v budúcnosti záujem práve The Last of Us. Nemal som o tej hre vytvorenú takmer žiadnu mienku, myslel som si, že to bude len ďalšia z radu „zombie“ hier. Vôbec by ma nenapadlo, že máme rok od vydania jednej z najdôležitejších resp. najpútavejších či najpôsobivejších hier čo sa príbehu týka vôbec. Ja ako hráč odkojený na FPS hrách typu doom, quake,wolfenstein 3D, heretic a ich následných pokračovaniach som nebol príliš veľký fanúšik takých tých klasických konzolových hier. Staré fps hry som sa vždy chodieval hrať ku babke, kedže tá mala, resp jej syn, famózny počítač, 386ku a potom aj 486ku, kde mala wolfíka 3D, či Dooma neskôr, ale mal tam aj skákačky ako Agenta, Commander Keena a závody Indianapolis 500. Všetko vyslovene shareware verzie, nikdy to nebola plná hra. Vždy som preferoval PC, moji rodičia neboli bohatí a tak som svoje prvé PC vlastnil až niekedy okolo roku 1999 alebo 2000,či 2001, nepamätám si to presne, kde mi môj milovaný otec zaobstaral prvý PC, bol to AMD Duron 750 MHz s riva tnt2 grafikou. Hlavná myšlienka tejto kratučkej retrospektívy je v tom, že som bol doslova odkojený na FPS hrách na PC a ku konzoliam som ani nečuchol, môj jediný kontakt s konzolovou hrou bol prvý krát niekedy v roku 1996 keď sa mi podarilo dovolať do relácie Level Majstrov toho času vysielaného ešte vo VTV. Viem že som vyhral pri losovaní divokú kartu čo znamenalo účasť v budúcom diely tohto programu, vyhral som aj jednu VHS kazetu originálnu, bol to film Savate. Pamätám si matne ako som hral hru jazz jack rabbit pred vysielaním na nečisto, tá bola tuším na PC ale potom halovú verziu FIFA 97 hry, tá už bola na psx a to bol môj prvý kontakt so konzolou vôbec. Nevedel som absolútne nič, prvé ostré kolo bolo na gamepade práve jazz jack rabbit, nevedel som vôbec ako chytiť do rúk ovládač, pročko sa mi smial ako uderený psychopat ale aspoň Karnasová sa ma snažila povzbudzovať, nevedel som sa ani dopredu pohnúť a dokopy som sa nevedel ani cez prvý jednoduchý level dostať v časovom limite. Skončil som samozrejme posledný a vyhral som hru Gender Wars.

    Ale to som až príliš ďaleko odbočil od hlavnej témy, pointa bola, že som bol primárne FPS hráč až niekedy okolo roku 2011 keď som si v kamennom obchode kúpil prvú konzolu v živote, bola to Playstation 3 v zľave a sním aj niečo cez 10 hier, medzi inými aj také pecky ako Killzone 1 a 2, celú Resistance a Uncharted trilógiu, Call of duty 3 a Red Dead Redemption. Bolo pre mňa veľmi náročné hlavne tie fps hry prechádzať na ovládači, ale zvykol som si pomerne rýchlo a po pár mesiacoch som s tým nemal žiadny problém. Hlavne Uncharted hry a RDR bola taká ostrá predpríprava na The Last of Us. Pamätám si ako som napr killzone 2 a prvý resistance ale aj RDR hrával cez takú krabičku pripojenú do konzoly, penguin či ako sa to volalo, mal som v nej zapojenú klávesnicu a myšku a vedel som si pekne nastaviť a nakonfigurovať ovládanie aj keď to nebolo ako na PC, kvôli miestami vysokej odozve aj kostrbatému ovládaniu.

    Ale dosť bolo nostalgie, vrátme sa k meritu veci a tým je The Last of Us. Prvý krát som originál prešiel v lete 2013, teda týžden po oficiálnom vydaní hry na ps3. Nevedel som do čoho idem, lebo som sa poučil a na hru, ktorú som sa tešil som odmietal sledovať trailery či čítať akékoľvek články o hre. A hra ma v momente očarila, či už to bolo vyslovene brutálnou grafikou hneď na začiatku, či ešte brutálnejšou a zároveň veľmi smutnou introdukciou hlavnej postavy hry, Joela. Musím podoknúť, že jeden z dôvodov prečo mi táto hra doslova prirástla ku srdcu je aj fakt, že som hru prechádzal s mojím milovaným otcom počas leta na chalupe, bolo to presne pár mesiacov po mojich úspešných štátniciach a tak som si užíval pár mesiacov voľna tým najlepším spôsobom. Hra ma takým neuveriteľným spôsobom úplne pohltila, že som si ani neuvedomoval plynutie času. Hra vyzerala na tú dobu neskutočne, hral som ju síce na staršej 40 palcovej Full HD plazme od panasonic, ktorá hre pridávala ešte na kráse parádne nakalibrovanými farbami obrazovky. Hru som hral, kvôli môjmu otcovi s českým jazykom, vedel síce slušne po anglicky, ale aby si aj on užil príbeh tak som ich zapol pre istotu.

    I enjoyed playing The Last of Us again. I know the remastered version is also on the system, but I do believe the remake is better. But they should've added the dogging mechanic into the remake.

    For me, The Last Of Us Part I is my favourite video game of all time, so for me this remake is worth everything, in order to replay this MASTERPIECE, and yes the remastered still is awesome to play to this day, but The Last Of Us Part I is the Definitive way to experience this masterpiece, the graphics are amazing, and also the twerks that they've done to the gameplay being more refined, IFor me, The Last Of Us Part I is my favourite video game of all time, so for me this remake is worth everything, in order to replay this MASTERPIECE, and yes the remastered still is awesome to play to this day, but The Last Of Us Part I is the Definitive way to experience this masterpiece, the graphics are amazing, and also the twerks that they've done to the gameplay being more refined, I definitely recommend this to everyone.… Expand

    As much as we love the skeleton, the way it’s been built upon here feels like a missed opportunity. The chance to incorporate Part II’s stellar gameplay evolutions into the original heart-wrenching story was there; had Naughty Dog taken it, it could have been a game-changer. Instead, this feels like an obligatory reshoot. Yes, it’s visually stunning (one of PS5’s best), and yes, things have been changed. But the end result? Too familiar. Neat extras are here, like a speedrun mode, behind the scenes videos, and commentary tracks – but we’d hoped for something bolder. [Issue#19, p.74]

    The original The Last of Us will always be my favourite PlayStation game. The narrative is amazing, the relationship between Joel and Ellie is wholesome and it all culminates into a satisfying story that will bring tears to your eyes. However, I do not recommend the remake. Even though there are extensive graphical enhancements, 60FPS support, DualSense support and a variety of accessibility options, none of this justifies the admission price. And, above all, there was really no need for this remake, the original is perfect as it is and available on PS Plus. Skip it and wait for a fat discount if you are keen to try it.
