I thought I'd wait to review this until I fully finished the story. Although in 2013 this game was truly amazing and like nothing that had come before it. It's now 2022 and games have moved on. the mechanic of this game, the combat, level design and general feel, is stuck firmly in the past. the remake isn't a remake at all. it had not been remade from the ground up like Naughty Dog claim. it is 100% visual only. And for a full priced game, it's simply not worth it. My advice to new players is just to buy the last remaster and play that. you'll get the exact same experience and have enough money to go buy something else that really is worth the money. I'd say if you can pick this up for £20 then go for it. better still, just rent this game instead as its relatively short.
I feel like Naughty dog should have redone all the animations, added some new sections to the levels, or even entirely new levels, anything new would have been appreciated. This is a pure cash grab in my opinion. The new TV show and the fact they barely had to do anything to "remake" the first game means that this experience really should be called "The Least of Us"
If you want a true example of a remake look at Resident Evil 2, Mafia, Final Fantasy, these are all examples of a company that actually remade the game. Think of this as a £70 reskin.

It`s a remaster. I would be ashamed if I worked at Sony. Full price for this ``remake`` is totally no sense. If you, sony, wants money, work hard for it. Sony is the new Nintendo. They dont respect your supputores.

    The good:
A new game for PS5. Ellie no longer looks like Helen Page/Eliot Page/Alien Page
The bad: A re-skin of The Last of Us from the PS4 remaster. The models were worsened in order to make them look older than the ones seen in their original PS3 game. The change in the model of Joel's daughter is not explained. If you want to play this game with the changes you have to pay full

You can't roll like in the original PS3 game or its Remastered version on PS4 (Maybe fixed with a patch). "The extra content" promised in his presentation is not in the game (perhaps it will arrive in a DLC). Follow the issue with below average enemy AI, plus follow Elly's AI Deus Ex Machina is still invisible to spores and infected in firefights, getting stuck on tables, walls and stairs or staring at a wall and staring into space in the midst of a dangerous scene. New camera angles were promised that are not there, new mechanics are not there (maybe they will come with a patch)
It does not have multiplayer like the PS3 TLoU

    lo meh:
Are they rating this game or by the studio or by the brand? With a 4K upscaling patch (as in the competition) you could use the same game or the game you already have purchased on PS3 and PS4 with the same result of this game at full price (80 USD, yes, you can find it on cheaper codes, but the list price in a warehouse is 80 USD). New gameplay was promised but it's still the same PS3 game.

    A cowardly "Remake"
Naughty Dogs "Remake" of The last of us (part I) is truly a disappointment. The game is literally the same as the old versions, every little thing plays the same, even the positions where the NPCs stay, their actions, all the same as the old game. The new thing is just a new shining coat of pretty on the characters to make them look like The fantastic Part II.

People say Naughty dog was lazy, I dont think that is fair to say, I do think they are cowards. This remake is a farse and we were told a lie. They are cowards because they didnt dare to bring the level of the game to Part II, they are cowards because so much could be done to make the combat scenarios much more engaging and interesting to play. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!
I truly regret believing this was a remake when in fact it is a remaster.

For 70 bucks I was expecting the gameplay mechanics of the last of us part 2 reworked for the last of us part 1. Like the ability to go prone and the 3 different stages of enemy AI. This is just an overpriced remaster. The graphics aren't that much better than the original. . Wait for a sale

But after playing through this I was left feeling disappointed. The graphics are top notch ND truly are one of the best when it comes to visuals, however the gameplay, mechanics and even AI feels like a step down from part 2 and doesn’t feel on the same level. This doesn’t feel like what it should’ve been. Gameplay is definitely better than the original but it feels like there’s a lot missing here. It was a joy to play through again but it feels less refined and restrained compared to part 2. Even the AI doesn’t feel as fleshed out as part 2. This feels more like a remaster of the remaster and also missing the multiplayer mode, the price point is certainly NOT justified. If you’re expecting something on the level of part 2 with gameplay, mechanics and AI and even dialogue with character interaction then keep expectations low sadly. I left this quite disappointed. If the price was lower and ND and Sony called it a remaster (because that’s all it seems to be), then this would be a lot better. It just feels way too ‘samey’ for it to constitute as a remake. Ultimately, this feels like a complete cash grab from Sony and ND just because of the upcoming tv show. Was nice to play through the story again though. If you’ve played through the original recently or the last few years then I’d wait until this eventually goes on sale. Expand

    3. The accessibility features are awesome although disabled people shouldnt be milked 70$ for it, if ND cared for the disabled they could patch most of it into the Remaster and save them 50$
    4. 3D Audio is good but its actually surround sound rebranded, but still a lot better than the remaster and improves the immersion

    Dissapointing:
    1. Ellie cant dodge or go prone (not only in base game but also in Left behind)
    2. Characters look much older , Joel looks older than in TLOU2, Ellie looks 5 years older. Tess looks realy old so it feels not as emotional when she dies like in the Remaster (because she seemed younger it was harder to let go)
    3. The AI improvements are not as good as advertised, enemies rarely flank and Ellie still sometimes runs in front of them while in a stealth section
    4. The DualSense features are not as good as advertised, especially the different guns feel almost the same when shooting (except the shotgun), bow is decent at best
    5. Characters clip sometimes trough Joel when getting in cover (ex: Ellie or Tess when covering with Joel next to him)
    6. The Remaster ran at 1800p/60fps, this one runs at 1440p/60fps in performance mode.
    7. Some textures are low res like books and TV which is especially noticable.
    8. Lack of multiplayer (They will charge you another 70$ for it)
    9. Loading screens indicate that the game was built on a PS4 engine because it does not use the PS5 deco pression (look at NXGamer review on YouTube, on his channel not IGN ponies)
    10. Bugs and glitches are present, especially when taken ojt by explosions.
    11. The game costs 70$ which is more than the Original, Remaster or even TLOU2 when it came out.
    12. No improvements to gameplay so the game looks like a downgrade to TLOU2.
    13. Graphics were made in an PS4 engine so the game doesnt look much better than TLOU2.
    14. Camera mode centers around Joel/Ellie and is pretty much pointless because of it.
    10. Game is a ps5 exclusive and looks almost the same as TLOU4 and plays worse and less fluid (although TLOU2 is a PS4 game)

I think Naughty Dog is still my favourite developer and they made huge upgrades in terms of graphics, faces, details, environments and the enemy AI is also better now. However the game is the exact same. They didn't change the set pieces, Joel and Ellie has no new abilities and they didn't make the fighting areas bigger or more complex either. Overall this game isn't worth full price at all.

The Last Of Us Part 1, to put it simply, is a cash grab to try and bank on the nostalgia of the oldest fans of this franchise. It is the exact same as the 2013 release, with missing content (The multiplayer) that costs more than the original.

Although the graphics do look nice, they're just graphics. They don't define what a great, or even a masterpiece of a video game should be. It should be the gameplay and how it's played, and compared to TLoU P2, it is a complete downgrade. That game introduced the prone mechanic and the the dodge mechanic, both that are removed from the this game. The reason for a "remake" is to improve upon the original game, by upgrading the game with modern gameplay mechanics, like the Resident Evil 2 Remake. That game deserves a remake because the original game released more then 2 decades ago and do not compare to the games for today's standards.

Not only that, but I'm 90% sure that the HUD and the icons are just a lazy port from TLoU P2. The icon for Abby's pistol is the exact same as Joel's pistol.

That being said, you can experience the exact same game with more content on the PS4 release, which is conveniently available for the PS5 as well. If you're reading this, I highly recommend you buy that version instead.

Look the game is great and the graphics are almost photo realistic. If you never played TLOU its a great buy. For €79,95 its a terrible package however. With less content than the (€59) PS3 and (€39) ps4 games this game is a blatant rip off on a very loyal fanbase, don't support it! The Last Of Us is one of the greatest videogames of all time. This is the most useless remake of all time. It's literally available in the PS store why would you do this? Also, charging $70? As much as we love the skeleton, the way it’s been built upon here feels like a missed opportunity. The chance to incorporate Part II’s stellar gameplay evolutions into the original heart-wrenching story was there; had Naughty Dog taken it, it could have been a game-changer. Instead, this feels like an obligatory reshoot. Yes, it’s visually stunning (one of PS5’s best), and yes, things have been changed. But the end result? Too familiar. Neat extras are here, like a speedrun mode, behind the scenes videos, and commentary tracks – but we’d hoped for something bolder. [Issue#19, p.74]

The original The Last of Us will always be my favourite PlayStation game. The narrative is amazing, the relationship between Joel and Ellie is wholesome and it all culminates into a satisfying story that will bring tears to your eyes. However, I do not recommend the remake. Even though there are extensive graphical enhancements, 60FPS support, DualSense support and a variety of accessibility options, none of this justifies the admission price. And, above all, there was really no need for this remake, the original is perfect as it is and available on PS Plus. Skip it and wait for a fat discount if you are keen to try it.
