The End of the Sun is a sincere indie game which shows the love of its developers in delivering an authentic Slavic fable, with a well written and unique story. However, its gameplay falls completely flat and the excessive backtracking becomes quickly tiresome.

Set in a world shaped by old folklore, this narrative-driven adventure leans into exploration and discovery. Its time-shifting structure encourages you to piece together events from different moments, creating a sense of curiosity that builds as you go. While it has a few rough edges, its atmosphere and unique approach make it stand out in a genre that rarely explores this kind of setting.

The End of the Sun shines most in its narrative, placing Slavic culture and mythology at the center of the experience. Its puzzle-driven gameplay supports a journey that meaningfully explores these themes. The work of such a small team is admirable, but it comes with noticeable technical shortcomings, particularly in performances, performance stability, and overall production design.

Though it has strong building blocks and sounds like a good initial idea, the game is a bit lackluster in execution. The story is a bit cliché with predictable plots and cringe moments. The puzzles are a bit too simple with not many actual puzzles between numerous cutscenes. Visuals are decent, but are a bit rough around the edges. I'm willing to give it some points due to the game's ideas, but doing poorly in these areas massively impacts the score.
